The industrial zone was the last trace of civilization before the city of Saule gave way to the wasteland at the border of Tanndi nation. Dozens of warehouses and manufacturing plants stood quiet and inactive. On rare occasions, the headlights of a large vehicle would sweep past en route to a delivery.
Several kilometers away, further still from the city of Saule and half-buried in dark sand, lay the hollowed out wreckage of the ambassador’s shuttle. As Coppola had observed from the ship, a deep set of vehicle tracks traced a path from the industrial zone to this point and back.
The scene was primarily lit by Riani’s moons, along with the faint glow of the city in the distance. The cold breeze carried a thick chemical smell that made breathing unpleasant for most species.
