== After Vanguard Mission ==
The Geronimo was finally docked at the station and Sothrick was one of the first back aboard.

He was using the Captains Ready Room to finish his reports until she returned.
So for the moment he was alone with his thoughts. The crew was all undergoing treatment, him included but he had not heard information on Reddington, Davis and Said and Finch. They had all been gravely injured and were still in the bases medical centers.

He himself had already gone over may times with brass the turn of events that led to him loosing the ship he was in command of. He was sure he would be stripped of Command until Captain Adarans return.
He had been in meeting after meeting and despite that he felt a bit like a failure he was still worried about Jennings.

Even thought she was the reason he and his crew were in the situation she was a StarFleet Captain that had gotten stuck in a situation of not her own making or at least not what he knew.

She had lost her mind and she was now out of her own time and all those she knew closest to her were gone.
He was worried about his own crew. In one turn of events he lost his ship and have several seriously wounded. Perhaps he should not be even First Officer less alone was he ready to be Captain.

Once they got back he reached out and had to leave a message for his wife inviting her to join him at the base. He was waiting to hear back from her. He was hoping she would be able to join him. He needed her she was more emotionally, centered and he needed that.

Right now he was trying to focus on his work. He wanted to give something for all the crew so he was trying to work something out for everyone but he had a few things to deal with first.

The first was to meet with the new Chief Medical Officer. Then he needed to meet with Said if she was doing better then he wanted to have a meeting with the new Security Midshipman. What a hell of a first time on a starship. He wanted to know how she was doing mentally now that they were safe.

It was not long as Sothrick worked that a message directed for his eyes only to his or for now his, ready room.

As he opened it he sighed slightly. It would seem that after days of debriefing often accusing him being in league with Captain Jennings, he was now told that Jennings was dead. It was worse than just that, she had succumbed to her injuries and psychosis. Long before she made it to her target. Before the Federation had caught up to the Geronimo, before the ships had caught up to the Vanguard. They had known the whole time.

As it were if he was just able to get his crew and the ship moving quickly, they would have been able to retake the Geronimo and tow the Vanguard with little more incident. He truly failed.

As it were the message also informed him that he was acquitted of any wrongdoing. Essentially, he was given a slap on the wrist but the whole incident, especially with Federation experimenting with new weapons, would look unfavorably on the Federation.

The crew had already been instructed that they were under gag orders and pretty much instructed to never speak of the incident further.

The Geronimo was cleared and officially awaiting new orders. There was no word about Captain Adaran so everything was left up to him.

His comm broke out [Um Com I mean Captain Crewman Wade here I thought I should inform you that Commander Said has been released from medical.] She quickly reported. Wade stepped up and came aboard with Sothrick to help as she could.

"Is there any word on Doctor Finch, and Reddington as well as Crewmen Davis?" He called back. There was a moment pause. "Um no sir they are all still in medical and I have not gotten any more updates on them but most of the other crew has been released, I just thought ...] She reluctantly gave and Sothrick cut her off.

"No I appreciate it. Please reach out to Commander Said and let her know that I would like to see her here as soon as possible." Sothrick ordered [Aye aye sir] Came back a slightly nervous response and the channel was then closed.

Sothrick was, pleased, that Said was healed from her injuries but he needed to have a word with her. Quickly.

==After the Vanguard fiasco==

Xenara had had a shower and took a day to recuperate before addressing what had happened on the bridge of the Vanguard. She didn't think Commander Sothrick had given it much thought other than to see how she was doing since. And, even though Sothrick was family, he was her commanding officer above all else.

And her actions had to have consequences. By that token, his actions demanded some form of repercussion. Of course, she had already forgiven him, he was her new brother after all. But she still had questions about what she had seen. And needed answers she didn't think Sothrick was ready to give.

She entered the Ready Room and stood at attention, which was somewhat ridiculous given their relationship, and it was more of a social call than anything else. She hadn't been reprimanded herself, so either Sothrick didn't say anything, or he wanted to talk with her before he reported it. She was, of course, under psychic influence and couldn't exactly control herself, but that didn't excuse her actions.

"Commander," she said with some confidence, though deep down she was worried. She and Sothrick had a familial bond, and she really hoped that didn't translate into nepotism. She did think about him blaming himself first and completely ignoring her pulling a phaser pistol on him, since it was his mental attack that prompted it. But, at the same time, She couldn't live with herself if she had actually pulled the trigger.

"Do you have a moment," she said as she stood as straight as she could with her hands behind her.

Nira should’ve been happy to be back on Geronimo, but the moment she got back, that was when it started in earnest. She had felt suspiciousness and such in passing by people while on Starbase 105, but Nira could no longer avoid it while she was back aboard. Everywhere, she felt distrust. Broken trust. Suspiciousness. Nobody cared she was back to normal.

In essence, she had lost the respect of the crew. She had failed them as Acting First Officer.

She had dreaded heading for the bridge, heading to the mess hall, going anywhere public. When Crewman Wade informed her that Commander Sothrick was to see her, she at first felt glad to get away from the eyes of the crew. But she was feeling dread at meeting with Sothrick. She could've easily said no, that she needed to be left alone, but she dared not disobey a summons to the ready room, least of all from Sothrick, not when she was under trouble already.

She entered the ready room, shivering with fear, shaking with dread. In fact, she entered the ready room appearing as she had when she had first come aboard the Geronimo: A broken, downcast girl, but even more downcast out of being around so much negativity. She noticed that Xenara was there...well, she had been feeling so much distrust and suspiciousness around her that she couldn't place a particular member of the crew. She looked back at Sothrick, but once again, she couldn't meet his eyes. Her shame was worse than before, and it was owing to have been Acting First Officer.

"Commander," she said, less like the woman she had been before and more like a traumatized teenager afraid of bearing the wrath of a close one - a father, a brother, a god - and she still shivered both from dread of meeting Sothrick and from the negative atmosphere she was experiencing. "Lieutenant," she added with a nod at Xenara. She sat down - slumped down, rather - before the ready room desk.

"I'm glad I can get away from public eyes," Nira said hollowly. "And at least you're hear, Lieutenant..." After a sigh of dismay, very near to being a sighing sob, a shivering hand to her face, she said in a quiet, downcast hiss, "It's about what I think it's about, isn't it, Commander?"

== Hmm Ok we will rock this together ==

When his door chimed he sat up moved the file of the person he was expecting to the pad in front of him, at the same time closing out the message from Starfleet.

He gave out an "Enter" as he sat stoically in his chair behind the small desk. When the door slid open to reveal Xardeen his right brow shot up in surprise. Not that he was upset to see her but she was not the first person he expected to see.

"Commander, do you have a moment?" She asked more formal than he expected as well. He stood and as he gestured to one of the two small chairs on the other side of the desk.

"Of course, Lieutenant... I am..." and before he could finish another form appeared in the door way that had not even had a chance to close.

"Commander," she said, Sothrick was pleased now that he had his other senses back after the ordeal but he doubted he would needed to be an empath or telepath to see Nira's Un-comfortability. "Lieutenant," she added with a nod at Xenara. She sat down - slumped down, rather - before the ready room desk.

"I'm glad I can get away from public eyes," Nira said hollowly. "And at least you're hear, Lieutenant..." After a sigh of dismay, very near to being a sighing sob, a shivering hand to her face, she said in a quiet, downcast hiss, "It's about what I think it's about, isn't it, Commander?" Sothrick's brow shot up again as he regarded the young woman and he took a loud and deep breath.

He began speaking as he retook his chair. "Commander Said, I am glad to see you are doing better." He began.

"I did want to speak with you both individually but Commander If you are comfortable with Lieutenant Xardeen here she is welcome to stay if you would rather. I also want to make sure you are both doing better." He added.

"The crew..., we all, went through alot and I don't want to order it but I would like for all of the crew to see the Starbase Counselor while we are here at the base. With that my door is always open." He began placing his hand over the PADD that laid in front of him.

Seeing Nira's state did make him change his intended conversation and tactic.

If she agreed leaving Xardeen in the room he continued.

"Said, I do want to address this last...excursion." He began Not wanting to call it a mission as they were kidnapped and just tried to solve their way home.

"I understand that we were all under duress and a psychological attack. I was left wandering about some of your decisions." He started.

"First Commander relax, I do not intend to... yell at you and that would be of little use for either of us." He added

"I'd appreciate it if Xardeen can stay," said Nira. "I wouldn't have minded it, either, if your wife could be here, too, Commander, as somebody I think of as a friend, but business as it is....I...understand...I need somebody at least around me that I can at least feel better...I have extremely few friends, and Xardeen can count as a friend..."

She sighed a sob, and this time, a tear did trickle. "I understand if your door is open, but I am in definite need of a counselor. In fact, I had been seeing four already so far, and I'm expecting a fifth when he gets to Starbase 105."

At the mention of wanting to discuss the so-called excursion, she hissed and another tear trickled. "No, I wouldn't expect you to yell at me, but I had been afraid that others would yell at me...It is what I expect to discuss. I've..." her sobbing sigh was so pronounced, it might as well be a near-drowning gasp. "I' have failed as a First Officer," she sobbed well and truly, crying in earnest now. "And I lost the trust and respect of the crew. They...for want of a better word...they hate me. I feel so much of it around me...it was so on the Arethusa. It was in passersby on Starbase Delta. And now it's everywhere around me on this ship. I can sense it, I can see it in their body language. There's so much I can't determine...Allah help me in the days to come..."

She clenched her fists and bowed down enough that her head was set down on the ready room desk.

Xenara had her own issues to work out with Commander Sothrick and preferred to do so in private. But When the First Officer wanted the Elaysian to stay it made her feel like she needed to loop the Human in, but that would only add to Nira's problems and Xenara didn't feel comfortable doing that. So she stayed silent while she and the Acting Captain talked.

She wanted to hug the First Officer after she had another one of her mental breakdowns, because Xenara didn't hate her, at all. She didn't think anyone did really, but she'd have to talk to the crew to get to the bottom of that herself.

Xenara put a hand on Nira's shoulder and squeezed. Sure the woman didn't seem like First Officer material given her emotional state, but even if Xenara had taken the Command Test, she doubted she'd be much better. She was born to be a pilot, but then she didn't want to get - to use a Human phrase - stuck in a rut.

At least she wouldn't be as emotional as Nira.

Wait...Nira is part Betazoid too...I keep forgetting that.

If it were any other CO sitting in Captain Adaran's chair, Nira would have been immediately dismissed and replaced, but Xenara knew Commander Sothrick had more empathy than most Vulcans, considering he was part Betazoid. It was also one reason he and Xenara had gotten so close.

"With all due respect, Sir," She said, "what Nira needs is her friends," she said to Commander Sothrick, "Not some...what's that Human phrase...desk jockey who thinks they know better."

Xenara didn't like doctors, but they were useful, counselors on the other hand seemed to just pretend they know what they're talking about. Occasionally there were good ones, but finding them - even in Starfleet - was difficult. And if they were telepathic or empathic, that just made it worse. Xenara felt like that was tantamount to cheating. Commander Sothrick was the only telepath she felt comfortable opening up to.

But that was a problem in itself...

"With all due respect, Sir," She said, "what Nira needs is her friends," she said to Commander Sothrick, "Not some...what's that Human phrase...desk jockey who thinks they know better." Gave Xardeen. Sothrick took a big breath and sighed letting it out.

"Agreed, but as one that had studied psychology a good therapist can not only help guide her, us through our thoughts and reality but help us understand the why in something that does not have a ready explanation." Sothrick gave. His normally stoic hard set features were softened. He decided to hold some of his words for Nira for a letter conversation. Now not need to be the time. She was aware of her mistakes there was no need to further dig them in.

"Commander, what we went through was... it was a nightmare a nightmare after living through the last nightmare.
Now we need each other and our Captain." He said as he sat back.

"Nira, everyone was dealing with their own issues I doubt very much that any of the crew hate you. If they do they can answer to me." He added.

He then looked between the two women. "I have set up a little get together that I would like all of my Department Heads to be there. We should be meeting with the Captain there." He added.

"We also have new crewmen joining as well as a new CMO, but over all it will be a time for us to relax as a..." He paused looking at Xardeen.
"As a family." He added. He had sent message for his wife and was hoping she would join them as well.

"Nira I don't want to make it an order but I do want you there for you as well as me." He asked.

"Now I think it best for you to go get some rest before hand. We can talk later Commander Said." He said given her leave.

Nira looked up as Xenara put a hand to her shoulder...the very shoulder where her first arm ripped off after she was shot by a disruptor. But it was a comforting hand, and Nira smiled a little, touched by Xenara. Then Sothrick spoke and she looked back at him, taking in his words. She listened, despite the fog of misery in her mind.

She had to perk up in surprise at the mention of gathering of Department Heads, but she soothed herself. And...as a family? Well, was this a potential...?

"You're right, Xenara, but you're also right, Sothrick," said Nira. "I'm in more of a need of a therapist at the moment. And if the crew have to answer to you regarding how they fell about me...I hate to say it, but I'm not entirely sure who of the crew feel about me negatively. There are so many that I can't pinpoint who it is. Chances are, most of the crew will have to answer to you...of course, if you had been as affected by the pathogen as I had been, they may likely feel about you as they do about me," she added warningly. "If, of course, you had been walking through public lately..."

She nodded as Sothrick mentioned they'll talk later. "Of course, Commander," she said. "And I'm sorry to come across as paranoid and miserable as it is...and I'll be at your get-together as well..."

Though, inwardly, she hoped it won't be a holosuite party like last time, since she didn't trust holographic technology since she and the crew got trapped in the holosuite due to a temporal malfunction.

Xenara smiled as Commander Sothrick mentioned "family" as he talked about the traditional after mission party. And she had to admit it made her more comfortable to be considered inside Nira's circle.

"You know I'll be there," she said. "As much as I enjoy paperwork, I enjoy partying just as much."

She had wanted to ask about Sothrick's wife attending the party. She was a bit...apprehensive about meeting the woman again, this time as an in-law, but that was a conversation for a more private meeting.

Sothrick felt like a bit of a failure as well and was working through that of his own. He somewhat understood what she meant but he did push out the concerns what the others thought. Right now he was pleased that he had his own faculties and mental control.

"Of course, Commander," she said. "And I'm sorry to come across as paranoid and miserable as it is...and I'll be at your get-together as well..."

"I am, glad Said, the crew will need to see you but I think it will be good for us all to be able to get together and talk if we wish. And while I have a couple of things planned I promise nothing like what the Captain usually does." He added.

"Thank you for meeting with me Commander Said, you are dismissed please get some rest the party will be tomorrow, so rest until then." He added and just wit that his comm beeped before Nira could even stand up.

[Um..Com, Captain...,] She still was not sure whether to call him Commander or Captain, [Crewman Wade here] "Go ahead Crewman" Gave Sothrick [I just received word from Starbase Delta Medical. I know you were waiting for.] She said and paused. Sothrick gave a look to Xardeen.

"Please go ahead Crewmen" [Um yes, Crewmen Reddington has recovered nicely and on a transport to this Starbase sir,] She paused but quickly started again [Doctor Finch has also recovered and has returned to Earth?] She said with a question to her report. [And....] Her words slowed [ And Crewmen Davis...] Her words were a bit shaky a tremble could suddenly be heard in her voice.

Sothrick found himself not only having taken a breath but he realized he was holding his breath. After seeing the reports he had already made his piece of what would be obvious of Davis' demise. The weapon had seared a whole through the man. Even with modern medicine Sothrick had made peace in his mind that he had lost another of his crew. This one just seemed so...pointless. For him to have died by friendly fire... Sothricks mind started to drift to having to tell the young mans family and bring his body home. A part of his job that he would rather not do.

[...Matt has had multiple surgeries and... is now awake! He is being held at the Delta Medical Center and has at least three weeks of recovery ahead of him but he was awake and... reportedly asked for...a Xenara before he was fully conscious.] She said seeming confused by the name. Sothricks brow raised as he looked back at Xardeen fighting a smile from his facade.

[ I am not sure what that means the Doctors I guess were waning to know who that was as he was asking for this person several times before he came fully conscious.] "I know whom it is I will make sure they know he is awake." Sothrick gave.

[Matt, I mean Crewman Davis, is requesting a transport to the Geronimo but Medical is going to keep him a few weeks before releasing him back to duty.] She started.
"Thank you Crewmen, thank you. That is good news." He said and meant it changed the overture of his, party , that he had planned for the crew. He thought it would also be a celebration of life for a couple of the crew but somehow all of the crew survived.

He then nodded to Nira giving her permission to leave.

He then turned his attention to Xardeen, his sister. He suddenly was relieved to have that bond with someone aboard.

"See you at the party, Nira. Getting drunk is always a good idea."

Xenara stayed still as the Vulcan/Betazoid hybrid dismissed Nira and listened to a report from the Starbase's Sickbay. She couldn't help but roll her eyes and mouth the words "Oh My God" when Davis mentioned her name. While she was relieved he had survived along with Reddington (whom she never really got to know), she felt like she had become the butt of an ongoing joke with Davis.

"Don't say it," she said. "I don't care that you're my commanding officer, I'll suffer the consequences if you say it.."

But you'll say it anyway.

Xenara never knew Commander Sothrick to laugh, but he did smile quite a bit, at least only in her presence. It was comforting to her to know that he could let his guard down when they were alone. She had to wonder how the rest of the crew viewed their relationship. She hadn't heard any rumors, and if there were any, she'd swat them down like bugs. But if the Commander actually laughed, it would be a historic moment.

But unfortunately, one that Xenara couldn't take the credit for.

Why do I smell a set-up coming?

Nira nodded, though she had presumed it would be a more than just two days to get to Starbase 105 now that they left Starbase Delta...maybe she misinterpreted...then again, misery often played tricks on the mind, and especially puts in the "time flies" mental thing.

At mention of Crewman Davis, Nira cringed, but was relieved to hear he was doing all right. She felt bad for him for what Mister Slad had done to him, and to Xenara due to their closeness. As much as she would've wanted to hate Slad for damaging her throat, she knew he was not responsible for his actions.

Nira had been about to leave when Xenara said, "See you at the party, Nira. Getting drunk is always a good idea." She turned to Xenara and grimaced. "Believe me, I did want to get drunk back at Starbase Delta, but I didn't want to. I was in enough trouble already, and I am a department head.

"However, Xenara, I do hope we can get together sometime, and probably more often when off-duty hours permit," she said, making a hopeful smile. After a last exchange with her, Nira left, and made for her quarters to be alone.

As Nira took her leave Sothrick sat back sliding the PADD he had under his hand back to the middle of the desk and flipping it back face up.

"Well I had intended to call you here as I wanted your opinion on something, but how can I do for you?" He asked

Xenara was used to the Vulcan Commander's misuse of Federation Common. Certain words and phrases seemed to elude him, even though the universal translator did its best to interpret. She actually found it kind of endearing. But being her brother, she couldn't help but want to tease him a little.

But this wasn't a good time for sibling antics.

She took the seat Nira had occupied before and crossed her legs, well, more to the point, picked her left leg and placed it on her right, which always made her breathing a bit more difficult for a minute afterwards. Simple things like that were a reason she had thought about getting that Neuromuscular Adaptation treatment, but she'd never again be able to experience her homeworld like a true Elaysian.

Then again, how often was she actually there?

But the reason she was in the Ready Room was to talk about that vision she had seen on the Vanguard...

"Seriously thinking about that Neuromuscular treatment. But that's not why I'm here. Though I would like your input on that too. We need to talk about what happened on the Vanguard. That vision I had. I can blame the pathogen for part of it, but I can't shake the feeling that there is more to it."

That vision I had. I can blame the pathogen for part of it, but I can't shake the feeling that there is more to it." Gave Xardeen.

He was first interested in what she meant by the neuromuscular treatment. He started to say something but she quickly continued with her true intent.

And at the mention of the ... vision, the Vulcan's stoic look quickly melted and a look of shame came across his face for a moment before he took a deep breath and looked down at his desk avoiding her eyes.

This was very new for him. There was very few that he considered close enough to be called...friends. Fewer of those knew his secrete that he was not just a Vulcan. Few of those knew about his pain that he hid. However, the fewest out of the minimal new how bad the loss of his first wife and mother weighed on him. He always felt that he has currently failed in finding out exactly what had happened to either of them.

"I....I am sorry for that... This is the trouble with getting close with a telepath." He started

"Xenara, you were the first in any ship in a long while to reach out to me to not only accept me but there was something about you that allowed me to feel a little more comfortable with you. There is very few that I owed my life to but the fact that you did not leave me when I was compromised and tried to save me." He said as he sat back in his own chair he looked out the window.

"I understand if this has been too much for you... If you would prefer to take back the idea of us being ... family." He said and paused.

LCdr Lim had boarded Geronimo, unpacked her belongings in her ' very spacious, NOT!' quarters, dressed in her uniform and headed to the bridge for the formal introduction to the captain, except it was someone call Command Sothrick who was listed as the Acting Commanding Officer. And he was in the ready room.

Lois pressed the bell and waited to be called in.

The ship seemed... She couldn't figure out if it was larger than she expected or her imagination wanted it to be larger than she expected.

Lois had called into the sickbay before she came to the bridge and she was impressed. Sickbay had two bio beds, and one could be used for surgery, minor surgery she thought. Her last posting on the USS Titania had a lot of doctors and nurses, a two-level sickbay with an internal lift, two surgical bays, a four bed ICU, 5 bed general ward which contained a dedicated triage space, and the CMO's office. The second level contained the medical/science labs, a physio room, a staff room and the counsellor's office complex.

Well, I can't change anything, it is what it is, get used to it girl.

She rang the doorbell of the ready room again just in case it hadn't been heard. She hoped that the computer was right when it told her where Commander Sothrick was, or it may be slow to update, and he wasn't where the computer said he was, now.

Xenara had to admit, the psychic attack had been...upsetting, but it wasn't the Vulcan's fault. The Elaysian had never experienced anything like it before, so she didn't know how to react other than just to concentrate on her work and figure it out later. She had been certain there was no malicious intent, that it was simply instinct obstructed by the pathogen. Then again she was no doctor.

And it wasn't her intention to embarrass the Commander, she just wanted to know what the vision meant. The pathogen could be blamed for her pointing her phaser pistol at him, but it didn't excuse it.

But to disown him for something she feared and didn't understand wasn't how she wanted to end the conversation.

"I would have thought pulling a phaser pistol on you would have made us even," she said. "You're lucky I didn't fire."

Not the time for jokes, girl.

"I admit I didn't know what I was getting involved in since I have so few friends who are telepathic. But I've never been so close that I would begin to actually experience anything about that world. And it would take something far more egregious than a pathogenic-induced attack for me to disown you, Big Brother. After all we've suffered together, I would have assumed you knew me better."

She heard the door chime ring.

"Well, you seem to be popular today." She stood up and straightened her uniform even though Sothrick's back was toward her.

"Family doesn't stop being family. Ever. If you're asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive as there was no fault."

"I would have thought pulling a phaser pistol on you would have made us even," she said. "You're lucky I didn't fire."

Sothrick without looking back still looking out the window of the small room quickly reponded "it would have been justified.

As he turned he listened "I admit I didn't know what I was getting involved in since I have so few friends who are telepathic. But I've never been so close that I would begin to actually experience anything about that world. And it would take something far more egregious than a pathogenic-induced attack for me to disown you, Big Brother. After all we've suffered together, I would have assumed you knew me better."

"Just to be clear that was not a psionic attack." He said as if he had more experience with such. "That was because we were linked and I was unable to fully block our link." He added as the door chimed. His brow went up again as he had not sent for the next person he wanted to see yet. But if it were her...

"Well, you seem to be popular today." She stood up and straightened her uniform even though Sothrick's back was toward her.

Sothrick turned completely and seeing her standing he gestured back to the chair

"Family doesn't stop being family. Ever. If you're asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive as there was no fault."
"Questionable." He said then continued.

"If you would I would like you to stay, Plus I still have to ask you something."

"Come in!" He called out seeing the new Doctor He stood up. "Commander Lim." He said as he gestured for her to come in.

"My apologies Commander I had asked my security to let me know you had boarded and I would have had them escort you about. At any rate welcome aboard." He started.

"Come in!" Lim heard the Commander call out. and he stood up as she entered. "Commander Lim." He said as he gestured for her to come in.

"Well thank you for the kind thought and welcome Commander Sothrick. Yes, I told the young officer I meet not to worry about it, and that I'd smooth it over with you if I was getting him to trouble. I'm quite capable of finding my way around a new ship you know, sir. Hello Lieutenant Xardeen, it's lovely to meet you... both of you, please call me Lois," Doctor Lim said to the officers present.  "And if not, Doctor is acceptable." she said with a wry smile.

"If I may speak freely, Commander. I wonder what your expectations are of a highly qualified Doctor on a small ship such as the Geronimo, which has very few facilities for the doctor to do what she is capable of, if you get my meaning?" She knew that a Vulcan wouldn't take that as an insult or a slur against the ship. Many officers have unreasonable attachments to their ships, personifying them, and also some officers have unreasonable expectations of their junior officer. Like when she met the first officer of the Titania on her first day in a Chief Medical Officer's position.

Might as well get the expectations elephant in the room out in the open immediately, that way I know what I'm in for.

Sothrick nodded as he took his seat gesturing to both ladies that they could follow suit. He had his own issues with such familiarity. Something in him just kept him from being able to use such familiarity unless he grew to know them and able to gain his trust on a personal level.

"If I may speak freely, Commander. I wonder what your expectations are of a highly qualified Doctor on a small ship such as the Geronimo, which has very few facilities for the doctor to do what she is capable of, if you get my meaning?"

It was a fair question but one that he was surprised was asked. He respected her question.

"I understand Doctor, It is a fair question but I do appreciate your query. To be honest I can respect that you may seem even over qualified for a ship with such little medical facility. However, I would believe that it would take nothing less that a Doctor of a higher caliber to take such a posting." He started and then sat back in his chair a bit.

"While it is true that the Geronimo is not like some of the regular exploratory ships that would have a full medical facility and crew as they will typically be out on much longer missions. We are more a quick response unit however it is very likely that on a medical standpoint we could come across the same issues as any of those larger ships could. Thus, it will take a doctor with a skill set that would far reach the typical CMO." He started.

"You will only have another doctor on your medical team Crewmen Reddington, whom is at the moment recovering from his injuries from our last mission." He took a breath. "I do have a Security Crewman with medic training, I will have her get with you and share a couple of duty shifts with you, unless you would prefer not but I think it would be best to have her as an extra pair of hands." He paused

"With that this mission was not only physically demanding but deeply mentally demanding. So much so that I have asked the entire crew to check in with the bases counselor. I know as a doctor you will have some small background in the psychological field. I would appreciate if you could reach out to all of the crew to make sure they have all the tools they need to feel confident in themselves and their jobs." He added.

"Other than that my personal expectation is that since this ship is a little different I would appreciate you being apart of our ship wide drills. I think it is important that you are comfortable and confident in a possible combat situation."

"I am aware that you are competent in holoprograming as well as Tactical perhaps you can help Lietuenant Xardeen and myself come up with training scenarios." He offered playing to her strengths.

"However, my expertise in medical are virtually nil. So it is your department and I am here to assist you in building it to your expectations, for the department. Now I will suggest once the Captain is back aboard we revisit your question with hir." He looked at Xardeen

"I personally have only had a couple of mission with the Captain, whom seems very level headed and straight forward. So far I...enjoy, serving with and under hir. However, I would like you to be free to get her opinion and needs of you as well." He paused.

"Since I have you here now I will also share a bit of information that only the Captain, Lieutenant Xardeen and our last Chief Medical Officer. I am not just Vulcan but a hybrid of Vulcan and Betazoid. I share this with you as I prefer NO one else to be privy of tis information, however I know my physiology is a obviously a little different and should the issue ever arise I want you to know ahead of time." He shared.

He paused letting either of the two ladies add any information or ask any questions they may have for him or each other.

Although Xenara's history with Commander Sothrick was interesting, she didn't share it with anyone he didn't want out of respect for the man. If the new CMO inquired, the Elaysian would still run it by the Vulcan hybrid before divulging anything. The Chief Medical Officer had to know his physiological secret, but not necessarily his connection to Xenara, unless Commander Lim was also going to double as ship's counselor...

Xenara constantly worried that her relationship with the First Officer would come back to haunt her someday. And she even toyed with the idea of transferring, but as long as no one made a fuss, she'd stay. She liked the crew of the Geronimo and didn't want to leave. She was just getting used to how the ship handled, and even getting used to Petty Officer Davis, who would no doubt follow her anywhere. Captain Adaran was a bit intense, but then Hermats tended to be acquired tastes.

But to hear that the new doctor had had tactical training was quite interesting.

"A doctor with tactical training," Xenara asked. "I suppose I could expand my skillset. The only medical training I've had was what was required by the Academy. But then science has never been my forte. Though I do remember how to use hyposprays. They come in handy for more than you'd think." She joked, but only halfway.

"Although having another tactical mind on board could be fun. Imagine the trouble we could get into."

Xenara smiled wryly in the Vulcan's direction...

LCdr Lim was very impressed with First Officer Sothrick's answer to her question about expectations. It was more a test of character than truly seeking an answer to the question. And he passed with honours. She knew immediately as he began to speak that she was going to enjoy working on this ship, even before she had met the captain. His answer was measured, considered, positive, not a rebuttal, but a gentle encouragement to be her best.

"With that this mission was not only physically demanding but deeply mentally demanding." Sothrick continued, "So much so that I have asked the entire crew to check in with the bases counselor. I know as a doctor you will have some small background in the psychological field. I would appreciate it if you could reach out to all of the crew to make sure they have all the tools they need to feel confident in themselves and their jobs." Sothrick added.

Yes. I know a little bit about counselling, perhaps that is a challenge to do some more study on the subject and become the non-official counsellor on the Geronimo, perhaps? As well as my medical duties. An interesting proposal. My surly nature could be a barrier to all that. Perhaps in time when I have processed all that happened with Dad on my way here, that might change, but then old habits die slowly.

The conversation continued as Commander Sothrick revealed some interesting things about himself. His newness to the position of First Officer and still getting used to the captain. And he is a hybrid Vulcan/Batezoid. Lois found that the most medically interesting part of the conversation.

I wonder if I should guard my thoughts around this one. Nah! Batezoids have strict rules about that and he's part Vulcan, they follow rules.

Lt Xardeen then spoke. Lois's observation of the atractive young Lieutenant revealed something that Lois could put her finger on. She couldn't describe it either. So, Lois made a mental note for future reference, and concentrated more on what Lt Xardeen was saying.

"A doctor with tactical training, I suppose I could expand my skillset. The only medical training I've had was what was required by the Academy. But then science has never been my forte. Though I do remember how to use hyposprays. They come in handy for more than you'd think." She joked, but only halfway.

Lois smile at the medical joke. The truth was that a hypospray could be a very lethal weapon, in the right hands.

"Although having another tactical mind on board could be fun. Imagine the trouble we could get into."

Xenara smiled wryly in the Vulcan's direction...

And there it was again, something that Lois didn't understand and couldn't name, with Xenara's wry smile towards Sothrick. She ignored her instinct to question it. It was not the right time or place, especially at their first meeting.

"Well, that's an interesting and perceptive observation, Xenara," Lois replied. "I wouldn't call myself a 'tactical mind' and yes if you relied on my tactical mind we would be in a lot of trouble! I basically did a flight training course at the Academy, that's all. I thought at the time that as a doctor if I needed to transport someone in an emergency, then I'd need to know how to fly a ship. On the other hand, I'd be very happy to train you in the art of field medicine. And the proper use of hyposprays." Lois smiled a genuinely humours smile towards Xenara. It was probably the first time she had smiled with humour, for a very, very long time. It felt good and Lois began to relax. She was sure she had made the right decision to transfer to the USS Geronime.

"We must get together some time for a drink, and talk about it, you could join us too, if you wish Commander."

Xenara has obviously looked over my Star Fleet file to know I've had tactical training. I hope she hasn't read some of the other things in there.

Xenara's habit of reading up on new crew members was a great way to get to know someone a little before hand. Parties were also a good way to meet new people, but seldom worked out for the better. To chose medicine over tactical wasn't as far fetched at it might have seemed. Given enough time, Xenara may have enough kills under her belt to justify a career change too. But she doubted it would be soon.

Still, it wouldn't hurt the Elaysian to learn basic field medicine.

"A single drink," she asked. "It takes at least four or five to get to know a person. And I can't get Commander Sothrick to touch one."

"I apologize if I threw you off with my earlier assessment," she added. "I tend to read the files of new crew members before I meet them. Something of a hobby and takes anxiety out of the equation when meeting them."

The Doctor and Xardeen traded niceties back and forth and then the Doctor pulled him back into the mix

"We must get together some time for a drink, and talk about it, you could join us too, if you wish Commander."
Sothrick nodded and was about to respond when Xardeen spoke out again.

"A single drink," she asked. "It takes at least four or five to get to know a person. And I can't get Commander Sothrick to touch one." Sothrick raised his left brow.

Xardeen was seeming more and more like a sister. Not a Vulcan sister but what he knew of others how they described their little sister.

Once the CTO finished Sothrick spoke up. "Well as it were, I have been known to imbibe once in a while. Doctor I may well take you up on that drink." He added

"Doctor, it had fallen on me to organize a gathering the Captain would like to have after each mission. I would like for you to join us so I can formally welcome you to the ship with the rest of the crew. It will give you a chance to meet with them on a more, ... relaxed, environment." He offered

"If you would like I can have crewman Wade show you about the ship and to Sickbay, Do you have any questions for me or requests?" He asked

"A single drink," said Xenara "It takes at least four or five to get to know a person. And I can't get Commander Sothrick to touch one."

Several drinks, I like the way this woman thinks!

"I apologize if I threw you off with my earlier assessment," she added. "I tend to read the files of new crew members before I meet them. Something of a hobby and takes anxiety out of the equation when meeting them." said Xamara.

Hmm. Keep your friend close and know your enemies, or is the other way around. I can never remember that human quote correctly.

"Well as it were, I have been known to imbibe once in a while. Doctor, I may well take you up on that drink." the Commander said in reply.

"I will hold you to that Commander." Lois said immediately

"Doctor, it had fallen on me to organize a gathering the captain would like to have after each mission. I would like for you to join us so I can formally welcome you to the ship with the rest of the crew. It will give you a chance to meet with them on a more, ... relaxed, environment." Sothrick offered.

"I accept, Commander, I would be delighted to join in the festivities, just tell me where and when and I'll be there."

"If you would like I can have crewman Wade show you about the ship and to Sickbay, do you have any questions for me or requests?" He asked

"That would be very nice, thank you." Lois didn't let it be known that she had already seen Sickbay, and she hated these guided tours. She would much rather explore the ship by herself, but she accepted gracefully, to allow Commander Sothrick the feeling of extending every welcome. In some ways Lois felt it was quite nice, but totally unnecessary.

"No Commander I have no questions or requests at the moment. But I will let you know if and when I do. Well... I look forward to meeting the crew at this... er... after-party."

"Very well then, and again Doctor welcome aboard. I will send over the details as soon as I get them all worked out." He stood and tapped his badge.

"Sothrick to Crewman Wade, if you would please meet Doctor Lim in the Ready Room and show her around the ship, particularly to her quarters, sickbay and please get her anything she requires to settle in." He gave [Aye, sir.] Came back a female voice.

Seconds later the door slid open to reveal a young woman with bright greenish eyes blonde hair pulled up in a bun and a friendly and somewhat awkward smile. In a gold security uniform which almost did not seem to match the young girls demeanor.

"Goood afternoon Doctor I am Crewman Wade" She said with a smile as she stood in the doorway.

As the Doctor and young Security Officer disappeared beyond the sliding door Sothrick retook his seat and focused back to Xardeen.

"I have ....I need your opinion." He looked at his new sister. He sat back. "This is a personal and professional suggestion." He started.

Then he smiled slightly at the young woman across from him as they were the only two. "If it is ok in light that I, do not have a First Officer for the moment as we have made a good team with Tactical and Security I hope you don't mind if I use you as a ....sounding board I believe its called." He started

It was then that he realized just how vital it was for a Captain to have that person they could sound off ideas, thoughts concerns with. He was not sure he was that to Captain Adaran but he certainly was trying to be and he would absolutely work harder at knowing that she could rely on him.

At the moment he was glad he at least had Xardeen here for this.

"See you at the party, Doctor," Xenara said as the woman left.

Then the mood became somewhat more serious as the Elaysian turned back to face Sothrick. She blinked at the Commander's request, though not sure why. Sure Commander Said had issues, but she was working through them. Xenara hadn't taken her Command Test yet and wondered if this was her new brother's way of gently nudging her toward that goal.

Still, he did trust her, and she had to admit the request seemed...logical.

She played it like she normally did and shrugged nonchalantly. "Of course," she said. "You always have my ear, Brother. I'd offer a shoulder but I'm afraid your weight would crush it."

Not exactly the time for jokes, girl.

But Xenara just couldn't help it. Humor was hardwired into her. Though her boss seemed to understand and appreciate it, she was still in the process of learning how far to push those boundaries.

Should know him well enough by now, shouldn't you? I mean, not as well as his wife, but still...

While she couldn't get away with a lot of her shenanigans with Captain Adaran, Commander Sothrick seemed to actually enjoy it. But, she remembered what Counselor Tate had said about how that might appear to other crew members.

"Why do I feel as if this is a prelude?"

"Of course," she said. "You always have my ear, Brother. I'd offer a shoulder but I'm afraid your weight would crush it."
Sothrick gave a smirking smile. He enjoyed Xardeen's humor.

She reminded him of Phoenix, an mortal enemy who became his best friend. He always seemed to have a witty comment or joke at the ready. She was a lot like him in that regard. No so much the womanizer that he was but that had seemed to change now as he settled and married. Something Sothrick figured would not happen ever.

"Why do I feel as if this is a prelude?" She then asked. Sothrick gave a slight look of confusion. "A prelude?" He asked with another smile.

"Um I do not think so?" He started. "I need your opinion and suggestion." He started.
"As I have difficulties with more, interpersonal, relationships, particularly with my subordinates, I require your, thought on an idea." He began cryptically.

"We have a new Security Midshipman that has joined our crew. She, like me is a Vulcan/Betazoid hybrid. Although looking through her files I feel she is not only dealing with the two very different cultures and literally worlds. I also do not believe she is as mentally focused as I have honed such traits." He continued.

He took a deep breath as he looked into Xardeen's eyes. "I purposely keep my heritage from the knowledge of most unless I allow them to be in my inner circle." He gave

"I was considering sharing this with our new Midshipman and offer to mentor her. However I, I don't want to over step or seem to, familiar." He questioned.

So...now my new role is counselor?

Xenara blinked. It was a habit she somehow picked up during moments when she couldn't give an...expedient answer. Not that she minded, she just wasn't sure how useful her insight would be.

"Well," she started, "I'm sure Upper Management would understand and even encourage it. If you had to, it could be passed off as a simple Vulcan training. She sounds like she could use a...familial entity."

Sothrick gauged his new sister. She seemed uncomfortable with the question or perhaps the nature of the question.

Suddenly he felt like he may have over stepped their boundaries.
As confident as he was in all other aspects he was never sure about, personal relationships.

Then she used a term he had heard before. Upper Management, while he got the gist of its meaning he was not sure of its use.

Her answer also seemed a bit brief, which made him again question the idea.

"I see." He started and then paused with a deep breath while looking searching her features for, more.

"I am not sure of exactly how I will breach the idea." He began again. "I suppose it best to bring her in and, feel her out, as I believe it called?" He added

"I know as a hybrid these two worlds, Vulcan Culture and Betazoid culture is so different that it is hard to find a place. There a very few of us because the union is moreso frowned upon by both." He added

"I think that was another reason I was drawn to you as I am sure you have had the difficulties in balance two different worlds, perhaps more with the physicality aspect. However, I would wager you are familiar." He started

He paused to see if she had more to add or different opinions.

"Well perhaps it's best to bring her in." He stated. Again he paused if she wished to add then tapped his comrade

"Commander Sothrick, to Midshipman Mala, If you would please join me in the Geronimo Ready Room. Sothrick Out." He ordered then looked across to the woman before him

He paused then

Xenara wasn't technically a hybrid, since both her parents were Elaysian, but she did juggle two entirely different cultures growing up. She preferred the life of the Federation and Starfleet, yet did miss her home. Granted she'd never really be able to go home very often, it still meant something to her to remain fully Elaysian.

"Sorry, Sir," she said. "I'm not exactly an expert on hybrid physiology. Let alone the one you and this new midshipman seem to share. But yes, I did, still do actually, straddle both Terran and Elaysian cultures, though I am missing some physical traits of the latter. I suppose that does give me a somewhat unique perspective.

But at the risk of sounding biased, I can't think of anyone else suited enough to mentor such a person. but...feeling her out just sounds as if I shouldn't be in the room when it happens."

Again with the jokes. But that was a good one.

She didn't have a clue how being a telepath worked as she was still learning. But she remembered how against the grain it was for Vulcans and Betazoids to mate. One would think it would be similar to Humans and Betazoids, but it gave her a headache to delve too deep into that train of thought.

"I am grateful that you think so highly of my opinion."

Sotrhick listened and his brow went up slightly when she said 'sir'

There was that formality again.

The Vulcan was not sure if she was making a joke when she said "feeling her out" judging by the inflection as she said it, it was meant as a joke but it was beyond his grasp on that one. The innuendo fell short and just made its audience lookk on with a somewhat questioning brow raise.

"Exactly, I know is different but there are some similarities. Just a more physical than mental." He added

He took a breath " Most believe that Vulcans do not have emotions but in fact we have deeper perhaps even more volatile, perhaps even more than terrains, that we most choose the path of logic to guide us to keep from destroying ourselves" He shared

"I chose to embrace my emotions but learn, fight ,to control them. As a Betazoid on Vulcan I was chastised, degraded, shuned despite being born on Vulcan."

" And as a Vulcan on Betazed while I was slightly more accepted I was still viewed with suspicion and chastised for holding on to logic. Both cultures would call me foolish." He gave

He stopped as he felt he was sharing to much so he decide to change the focus.

"At any rate, what's with this, sir, business?" He gave with a new smile.

"I would appreciate the professionalism when in public but when it's the two of us, and I am asking for you opinion as a friend , there is no need for such formality. " He said as he sat back.

Xenara smiled. The truth was, it was simply a force of habit. Though sometimes even in public, she had an air of informality. She reminded herself that just because she was allowed to get away with very little, she was still an officer.

"Sorry, Brother. Anxiety talking I suppose," she said. "Meeting new people without reading up on them beforehand can be a bit challenging. Not that anxiety would keep me from it, it would simply be more comforting if I had the upper hand in those meetings. Though I did read up on Commander Lim."

Jez had finished her session with the Therapist, she was looking forward to a little shopping and possibly a workout at the Starbase's well-appointed dojo’s when her com badge sounded requesting that she report to Commander Sothrick in his ready room.

[ Commander Sothrick, to Midshipman Mala, If you would please join me in the Geronimo Ready Room. Sothrick Out.]

Jez didn’t like the tone of his voice, a million questions flowed into her brain. It had the same exact tone that her mentor and friend had, especially when he wasn’t pleased with something that she did or had said.

What in the world would he want to see me for?

Jez finally arrived at the door of the ready room, her heart was racing. She had no idea what Sothrick wanted her for.

Jez reached for the door chime, she could feel a knot form in her stomach. She hesitantly pressed the door chime.

Not that anxiety would keep me from it, it would simply be more comforting if I had the upper hand in those meetings. Though I did read up on Commander Lim."

Sothrick flipped over the PADD he had with Nira's file on in and tapped it twice to pull up the other file he had been reading.

"Interesting..." He said as he brought up the file then slid it over towards the Tactical Officer. "You are usually much better at, meeting new people." He started. "This is the Midshipman's personnel file." He offered.

It was just moments before the door chimed. This time Sothrick hoped it was the actual person he was expecting.
The Vulcan stood and called to the door. "Enter" he said as he stood. As the door slid opened he nodded. "Welcome aboard Midshipman Mala. Please come in and have a seat." He said as he gestured to the other empty chair beside Xardeen.

"MIdshipman Mala this is Chief Tactical Officer Lieutenant Xardeen. I would normally have you meet with Lieutenant Commander and Chief of Security Said. She is not able to join us at the moment. However, on this ship Security and Tactical work closely together so Lieutenant here will also be your next in command. Hence, one of the reason I wanted her here." He began as he retook his seat.

Jez stood out the door, her pulse was racing as she waited. The knot in her stomach was growing by the minute. She had no idea as to why the Commander wanted to see her, had she done something wrong? As she stood trying to figure out what was going on, she heard a Booming  "Enter"

Jez got the same feeling that she used to get when it was time to face Teddy Bear. It wasn’t that Jez necessarily didn’t deserve a lecture or a dressing down, but Mike could be a harsh taskmaster.

As the door slid open Jez heard, "Welcome aboard Midshipman Mala. Please come in and have a seat." Said Commander Sothrick, as he gestured to the other empty chair beside Xardeen.

Jez was truly surprised by Sothrick, she had seen in casually in passing, and maybe a few times in the mess hall, but up close, it was like she was a Roman Solider seeing one of Hannibal's War Elephants crossing the Alps, creatures of immense height, power and majesty. Sothrick was no exception, He looked powerful, but oddly enough gentle.

What in the world, this man is more freighting close-up

"MIdshipman Mala this is Chief Tactical Officer Lieutenant Xardeen. I would normally have you meet with Lieutenant Commander and Chief of Security Said. She is not able to join us at the moment. However, on this ship, Security and Tactical work closely together so the Lieutenant here will also be your next in command. Hence, one of the reasons I wanted her here." He began as he retook his seat.

Jez nodded and took the seat the Commander indicated. Jez couldn't help but wonder how Sothrick didn’t crack his skull on the bulkheads as he was so tall.

Jez looked at Xardeen and smiled,” Pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant, at least face to face.” Said Jez, her tone neutral.

“Oh Commander Sothrick, I have already met Commander Said, but not necessarily under the best circumstances, the mission and all.” Replied Mala.

Jez was nervous and her mental walls were not as solid as they should be, she could only imagine what she was here for.

~ I thought Teddy Bear was intimidating, Commander Sothrick has him beat hands down. ~

“Commander, you wanted to see me?” Her tone was polite and reserved.

“Commander, you wanted to see me?” She asked Sothrick nodded as he took a deep breath and watched her take the seat offered. He still with her in front of him wandered what exactly he was going to say.

His features still never waivered though. His stone like facade gave no hint of emotion or his thoughts as he regarded his young crewman.

"Yes, as a Chief of Security I made it a point to personally meet with each of my crew something as a First Officer I find important to carry forward." He started.

"I think its important that you get a chance to meet with me and ask any questions and where I can explain my expectations. Lieutenant as well." He gave

"I do apologize that I was not able to meet with you before our last mission. With that I also wanted to touch base with you and make sure you were coping with the...unpleasantries of the mission." He added then paused gauging her response and reaction to even the question.

Jez sat there and listened to Sothrick, she truly found him intimidating. Yes, her Teddy Bear was intimidating, but he had a soft side that he showed every once in a while. Jez felt like Sothrick would be a harsh taskmaster, but yet on the other hand, she felt as if she genuinely had a problem she could confide in him. Jez took a deep breath to calm down and appear relaxed.

I swear Sothrick and Teddy Bear must be cut from the same cloth.

"Yes, as a Chief of Security, I made it a point to personally meet with each of my crew something as a First Officer I find important to carry forward." He started.

Jez couldn’t imagine Sothrick as an everyday Security Officer, he just seemed so unlikely. When she first saw him she thought he might have been just on board as an advisor or something of that nature.

Jez learned a long time ago that you don’t necessarily need telepathy to read people, humanoids give off a vast amount of information through body language, facial expressions, eye movements, even a simple clearing of the throat, to something as random as posture when standing or sitting; and Sothrick sat like an Pharaoh

"I think it's important that you get a chance to meet with me and ask any questions and where I can explain my expectations. Lieutenant as well." Said Sothrick.

"I do apologize that I was not able to meet with you before our last mission. With that, I also wanted to touch base with you and make sure you were coping with the...unpleasantries of the mission." He added then paused gauging her response and reaction to even the question.

Jez sat there for a few moments, pondering what Sothrick had said, she found his statements a bit odd, but also kind of touching, dare she say even a tad emotional. Sothrick was clearly a Vulcan, but telepathically speaking he didn’t read like a pure Vulcan.

Jez smiled and said, “ I appreciate the opportunity, Commander. I mean no disrespect but you are not a full Vulcan are you; you don’t read as fully Vulcan?” “Oh and Commander, as far as our current mission is concerned. I’m seeing a Therapist as ordered and overall things are going well. I’m used to unpleasant things happening. My parents are Archeologists and I’ve seen people get hurt and even killed, in cave in’s, and even those who have fallen victim to booby traps when we’ve entered burial chambers.

Jez wasn’t sure exactly what the Commander was expecting for an answer, but Jez felt he was trying to feel her out, get a sense of who she was, but why?

“Commander, I will do my best to live up to your expectations and I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities.” Added Jez. “However, I do need to know those expectations.” Stated Jez.  Jez displayed no emotions and gave no hint of what she was thinking.

It was his eyes that also changed inhumanly different. They went from the gray steel blue to a deep dark almost black with a hint of gray at the outer edge.

Well that seemed to answer his question. He was not one to tell people of his heritage but as a Vulcan he would not likely lie if asked directly either.

“Commander, I will do my best to live up to your expectations and I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities.” Added Jez. “However, I do need to know those expectations.” Stated Jez bluntly, plainly.

Sothrick sat back pushing back from the desk slightly as he gave another look towards Xardeen. He folded his hands in front of him as he crossed his legs behind the desk as well.

"We can go over my expectations but you, you touched on another reason I wished to meet with you. A reason I have watched your progression through the Acadamy. Why I requested you for the Geronimo as well." He hinted then took a deep breath.

"Please understand that all of this conversation is to not leave this room." He began as he sat up now placing his hand folded on the desk.

"I am like you Vulcan and Betazoid. As I am sure you are aware such a genetic blend is rare. Both cultures out of most others are nearly the most opposite." He began

"In all of my time counting, myself you are the Fourth Vulcan / Betazoid hybrid I have encountered. One was my wife and her sister." He added with a hint of a smile.

"I have looked over your file and as I said studied your progression. I got the impression that you were not bound by logic nor given to the whims of typical Betazoid philosophy either. I hope that has helped you find a balance." He started

"I spent a good part of my life trying to find my own balance as I am sure you have. I understand the importance of a Vulcan learning to control ones emotions. Aso our emotions can be more volatile." He said almost more for Xardeen.

"I also have understood to deny the emotion completely would be denying one of much that comes with embracing emotions." He added

"However, I have found that most see me as Vulcan and thus underestimate me. I have found letting them believe I am Vulcan only allows for most to actually be more comfortable around me." He said "I am not saying that this is something I believe you should do or even suggest but while I am letting you know this information it is not common knowledge. Only those I consider part of my personal family have this knowledge. Lieutenant Xardeen here and I have grown close since I joined the Geronimo. We have become like, brother and sister, so I have let her know the truth."

"I am sharing this with you to offer myself as a mentor. Another, secrete I was blessed with both sides of telepathy and I have spent much time to better my mind as well as my body. I am generally a stronger telepath than most of either race. I do not require touch to gain empathy or telepathy. With that I have learned to create mental barriers as well as ability to focus these, talents." He added

"I would like to invite you to train with me and to meditate with me but if you would like it I believe I can also help you focus your mental abilities, if you would like. This is not something that is required and if that is to much or if I have crossed a line. I do apologize and I ask that you keep this information to yourself." He gave and waited to see her response to the unload he just did.

He held back more information but he wanted to gauge what he gave her so far. He was also waiting to hear from Xenara and her thoughts as well.

Jez sat there, she was slightly stunned. By what Commander Sothrick had said; especially the part where he said, "We can go over my expectations but you, you touched on another reason I wished to meet with you. A reason I have watched your progression through the Academy. Why I requested you for the Geronimo as well." He hinted then took a deep breath.

Did he just say he was watching me at the Academy,

Jez narrowed her eyes a bit, she wasn’t sure where he was going with this, but she was flattered. She had no idea that Sothrick kept such close tabs on cadets.

"I have looked over your file and as I said studied your progression. I got the impression that you were not bound by logic nor given to the whims of typical Betazoid philosophy either. I hope that has helped you find a balance." He stated.

“Well, Commander I just could never devote myself to the logic of the Vulcans, and being a slave to the Betazoid House nonsense just isn’t me. I’ve been to many alien worlds with my parents and I have seen so many amazing cultures and civilizations. I just knew there had to be a happy compromise and I think I've found it.”  Said Jez

“ Commander, I’m honored that you chose me specifically, but surely there must have been other Betazoid Vulcan hybrids at the Academy. “ Said Jez. her tone respectful. “ Commander, I will under no circumstance tell anyone of your mixed heritage, but Commander as I said, You don’t read as full Vulcan your thought transmit as ... .as… a dual broadcast as it were.” Jez smiled and leaned closer.

“Commander, what I’m trying to say is that to other telepaths you come in like two communication channels overlapping, My parents had several Vulcan-Betazoid HYbrids working on their dig teams, so I’m used to our kind.” Stated Jez.

Jez was dumbfounded at how much Sothrick reminded her of her beloved Teddy Bear.

“Oh and Commander I would consider it a great favor and privilege to train and mediate with you, but I have one question. What do you mean by training I’m elated that you want to be my mentor. In many respects, you remind me of my former mentor. Ted… I mean MIke.

Jez didn’t know what to say especially when Sothrick said, “Lieutenant Xardeen here and I have grown close since I joined the Geronimo. We have become like brother and sister, so I have let her know the truth."

Jez was curious to see just how talented a telepath Sothrick was, so she decided to have some fun and test him.

~ Brother and sister, you’re old enough to be her father if not grandfather~

Jez was truly honored, an Officer of Sothrick caliber taking an interest in someone like her was truly beyond her understanding, not to mention his odd eyes. Jez just pretended not to notice.

Sothrick gave a knowing smile with his right brow raised

“Commander, what I’m trying to say is that to other telepaths you come in like two communication channels overlapping, My parents had several Vulcan-Betazoid HYbrids working on their dig teams, so I’m used to our kind.” Stated Jez.

Sothrick gave a smile. "Midshipman,..." He began and his eyes changed slightly again to just a full dark blue.
"I had allowed you, to feel my emotions, my duality. To judge how perceptive you are. However, I assure you if I have up all my barriers, which I typically do I have confused other telepaths because they can not read anything." He added

“Oh and Commander I would consider it a great favor and privilege to train and mediate with you, but I have one question. What do you mean by training I’m elated that you want to be my mentor. In many respects, you remind me of my former mentor. Ted… I mean MIke.

"Most of the training would just be that of being a better Starfleet Officer. Better Security Officer." He started

What Jez did not realize was that Sothrick's mind was open and her thoughts were loud.

~ Brother and sister, you’re old enough to be her father if not grandfather~

Sothricks brow shot up and his features grew a little more stern as he leaned closer now. "As I am Vulcan and I have been around a bit longer than some and such I am offering you that benefit of...my advanced age." He gave with a slight squint of his eyes referring to the insulting thought.

"I have trained in many various martial arts but I can also show you how to open your mind to those attempting to physically attackyou and use their thoughts against them. While protecting your mind from any possible mental attack in the same. Also I can if you want help you meditate and strengthen your mental abilities, if you would like" He said and gave a look towards Xenara.

"I would be honored to mentor you if you wish and the level will be only what you want. Only as a professional or a bit more personal. I have never offered this to anyone else so I will let it be at your comfort level. I feel though to have such we need to have a more personal understanding and trust with each other to do so." He said then projected to Xardeen only knowing she would find it funny.

~She thinks I am old enough to be your grandfather.~ He shared with a smirk towards the Chief Tactical Officer.

Jez was surprised at how talented a Telepath Sothrick was, but she was also surprised at how sensitive he seemed to be about his age. Though Sothrick looked pretty dam good. She had to admit his lack of hair was a bit odd, as baldness wasn’t a common trait among Vulcans and his eyes were a little unsettling.

Sothrick continued, "I have trained in many various martial arts but I can also show you how to open your mind to those attempting to physically attack you and use their thoughts against them. While protecting your mind from any possible mental attack in the same. Also, I can if you want help you meditate and strengthen your mental abilities, if you would like" He said and gave a look towards Xenara.

Jez was truly honored, to be the recipient of such a generous man. Jez couldn’t help but get the feeling that Sothrick seemed to be recruiting her. After all, he did watch her while at the Academy, and he does want to train her. Jez couldn’t help but wonder if the Commander had an ulterior motive.

Come on Jez, he’s just a sweetie pie, looking to shape those under him into the best that they can be.

Jez smiled, she knew that Sothrick was married, but the way he seemed to smile at Xenara gavew her a moment to pause, was Sothrick and Xenara married, after all, he had communicated with her her telepathically about what Jez had said about him being her grandfather.

“Oh Commander, I didn’t mean to imply that you were old, I was just seeing if you were listening that's all.  To be honest I’m a bit of a smart ass, especially to my friends. “ Said Jez.

Jez looked at Xenara and then at Sothrick, the image of them walking down the wedding aisle was a little odd. Though Sothrick wasn’t necessarily a bad-looking man, certainly not her choice, but if Xenara was happy then who was she to judge?

“Commander I’m pretty formidable when it comes to Martial Arts, I wouldn’t want to hurt you. I mean a young girl like me and a well-seasoned individual such as yourself it wouldn’t real;y wouldn’t be fair,” said Jez, trying not to smile.

“I would really appreciate your mental training, as I've been around telepaths all my life, I never had to block negative or dangerous thoughts. My parent's dig team is like one big happy family. As far as safety  Teddy Bear keeps us safe, but I’m eager to learn whatever it is that you can teach me.” Stated Jez.

==Apologies for the delay. Moving sucks.==

Xenar sat quietly and listened to the conversation between the newcomer and Sothrick. Granted it was a bit odd for her to be calling a man way older than she was her brother, but she couldn't help but smirk as the older man thought to her.

~Well, then instead of 'Brother' maybe 'Gramps' would be more appropriate? I wouldn't be surprised if she thought we were married.~

It wasn't until he said "advanced age" that Xenara had to stifle a laugh. But when Jez suggested that she might actually have a chance of hurting him in martial combat, she couldn't hold it in any longer.

"Short of a building collapsing on him, - which coincidentally has happened - or a phaser blast at point blank, I don't think there's much that would do any physical harm to him. I think the only one that holds that secret is his wife."

Jez couldn’t help but laugh when Xenara thought the word, Gramps. She looked at Sothrick doing her best to imagine him as a Grandfather, she smirked again. The image of Sothrick changing a baby's diaper was truly comical.

Jez looked at Xenara and thought, ~ Just how old is he?~

"Short of a building collapsing on him, - which coincidentally has happened - or a phaser blast at point blank, I don't think there's much that would do any physical harm to him. I think the only one that holds that secret is his wife." Said Xenara.

“Are you his wife?” Said Jez, her voice filled with caution.

“What, a building you say? Is he some kind of a cyborg, or an android, or something?  Replied Jez. Jez looked at Sothrick closer, to see if she could tell exactly what he was.

Well, that would explain his eyes changing color, it’s probably adjusting its visual sensors. Not to mention it’s freakishly big size.

Jez waved her hand back and forth in front of Sothrick.

Jez looked at him and then Xenara;  either these two were playing a practical joke on her, or Sothrick was completely unique. Jez’s eyes narrowed; she knew they had made great leaps in cybernetics, but an android with telepathic abilities was that even remotely possible?

~ Who built you? ~

Jez sat there staring at Sothrick, for a possible android he was truly remarkable. He was rugged and handsome, yet he seemed hauntingly emotional. After all, it did seem like Jez had struck a nerve when she mentioned him being of advanced age; after all, a Vulcan wouldn’t react in any manner if they had been miss-aged.
