Hello Fed Space Admins,

I have been looking at the Player Roster and I have seen a lot of retired players that are listed as retired. I have read some really incredible Bio's, my question is has anyone from FedSpace reached out to the Retired players and see if they would be interested in returning?

Some of those Characters would have also out lived themselves or come to an end of what the player can do as the character has reached their natural end.

So, they retire that character out and create someone new.

Some players leave and come back a few months/years later and decide to create a new character purely on the grounds it be hard to think of a reason for their original character to come back to active duty depending on their exit story line or the character in general doesn't fit what they want to role play instead.

I know several people who have left and come back across the site.

Really, once your bitten by the FS Bug you never really shake it off and end up coming back.  :)

While some of them may have naturally aged out, some might not have, but maybe those that have retired and returned we could add something to the roster something like John Doe returned and is playing as Fred Jones. But for those who haven't returned maybe if they were asked they might. I know I have been telling family and friends that I know are fans of Trek about Fed Space, hoping they will join. In fact, a girl in my office has joined. A Paralegal at a company I visit is the one who told me about Fed Space. I guess my point is that I would love to see Fed SPace grow. Anyway thanks for letting me express my thoughts.

To echo what Commander Brooks said, not every Retired Account is a player who is no longer with the site. We don't change the names to say who they play now because it looks bad on the forum, and sometimes players need a fresh start without any of the baggage that came with their previous characters - creating space between them can be refreshing/necessary.

As for players who have left, some remain in contact, others do not. When I was a CO (many years ago) I would try and keep in contact with former players where possible, but sometimes former players wish to be left alone. It is a balancing act between trying to be friendly and respecting their privacy, especially if they left for personal reasons that may make life difficult for them. Others, sadly, are no longer with us.

The key is to keep looking to the future; though it's always great when former players return, and we welcome them with open arms, it is new players that are the future of this site!

Oh, Admiral, I fully understand about the privacy and all, it's just you read some of their bios' and they are so detailed and well written, you kind of want to see what they have done with their new Charachter's based on how well their old one was. This is probably the most foolish question do you recruit off off Socia Media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Is it alright that I recruit via word of mouth, I'm not doing something wrong am I?

You are more than welcome to recruit in any way that you want, as long as you are not paying people to be here obviously. We have a Facebook group, and a Facebook page although I'm not as active on there as I should be.

I believe we have a twitter and Instagram but I don't know the details for those (and I barely know how to use Facebook let alone those two so wouldn't know how to use them anyway).

As for seeing what players have done with their subsequent characters, there is a template for the wiki bios that can be utilised that will list all the players characters, you can see this on my bio (ignore the fact that it is horribly out of date) under 'Supplemental Information'. Some players do try to actively keep their other characters bios up to date, I was trying to do this with mine but... yeah... that's another story.

I've just been reading this thread and I don't mind sharing my story. I am myself a returning player to the site and have been back for the last couple of years. My previous incarnation was Astrid Peth a young Security officer, at the time I got a bit stuck with writing for her. Her mannerisms were very abrupt and completely removed from how I found was comfortable to write, I fell out with her personality and in the end found her a very rude character who was impossible to write and so had to go back to the drawing board fo to speak.

It took me a little while but about 6 months later I found my new character, which is still my PRC to this day Luna Pond. I wrote her initially very like myself in personality, which made her easier to set a backstory for. But as I began to find Luna's personality started to flourish into it's own and now I have found a way to write a CoS, mainly removed from my own experiences but her reactions to things still mirror how I would probably react as a writer should her experiences occur in my everyday world.

From this I found I could extend my characters and so now Luna's sister Aurora serves in Star Fleet too. Their characters are very different, I write for both and both are now a joy to write.

I'm also a former player, in both that pervious character and this one, I actually play them very different form myself in real life. For starters, both characters are female and I am male! I left the site abruptly quite some time ago (10 years ago maybe?) due to a lot of personal issues going on in my life.

I'd love to bring back my former character, Lymtara Vexx - still use a fashion of her in many other games I play, commonly going by the nickname \Lym' - however, it would be unfair for me to come back as a Lieutenant when I went AWOL for.. well, years. Story wise, I can come up with a reason, and have, but I will need to make up the point difference before hand. Who knows, by then I may have grown attached to Qu!

I returned to the site back about 2014, so I can relate to the idea of returning players. Information in the bio for a character can be quite different, depending on the player. Some keep a running update of their character and everything that happens to them along the way. Other never even check to see if their medals are current. In my experience, a player that actually maintains the same creative pace for several years is very rare. Some enter timidly, while others burst through the door. I have encountered a number of writers that contributed an incredible amount to the site and those around them, as players, writers, Captains, GMs and more. Even some of the best of them often run out of gas, with a statistical average of about eight years. If you're really lucky, you come across the ones that keep it going past that stage...and we have the good fortune to have a number of them here.

My original character is not even in the retired list, but that's fine. I wouldn't know how to update her bio anyway. She's been lost to the sands of time, as so many are. What you might be able to do though, is if you do get lucky enough to contact some of these old players, ask them for an update. Don't bluntly ask them to come back, but ask them to just give you a comment for the record. Now that the site is 20 years old and soon to be legal in every state, say that we would love to know how to put a last entry in the books about what happened to their characters. Are they living the good life on some planet? Did they have kids? Did they disappear into the secrecy of Black Ops and were never heard from again? Did they die in battle? You might get a few replies to feed into the wiki and answer some of your questions. Maybe...just maybe...there will be a couple of them, that while thinking about that stuff, will wake up that old creative flame. They may or may not come back, but reminding them about those days can't be a bad thing. There's no pressure, they can think of it as an honor to what they contributed and you never know if you might get lucky.

I was gonna keep mine a secret, but that's out the winder, so... Not out of privacy either, just to see how long it took to be found out.

My first character was Darsyn Syntranos. Made him all the way back in 2001. He's since retired, and I had thoughts of bringing him back, but I'd need a spectacular story. I think he became Director of Starfleet Security or something like that, but my creativity well just dried up. And that was about 5 and a half years worth of work.

I'm not that great at making characters. I tend to go overboard and then wonder why I have trouble writing for them. That's usually why I tend to leave the site for a while and come back with a fresh perspective. Or like with Darsyn, I just run out of steam. Some of my characters have a conclusive end like poor Pheral Ohmsford. I miss writing for him but I was going through a hard time in real life so I had to kill him off. Kinda wish I hadn't but that death scene was too good.

I keep coming back because this site got me hooked on writing and I've been here off and on for 20 years. Most of it on. You'd think I'd be better at creating characters by now. Xenara Xardeen is some of my best work in my own opinion, but I still wonder how long I'm going to get to write for her before I...retire her.

Like I said, I'd love to bring back Darsyn, and I don't really care about the points, I just think it would be a lot of fun to have him involved in a sitewide or even his old ship.

God its crazy how long I have been around and I remember reading some of Perth and did not realize you were the same Pond!

I also did not realize you were Ohmsford, its crazy how different your chars all are. I think I posted with Ohmsford briefly.

At any rate Oza I know you have done some recruiting and brought at least one great player I know about. It is great to have someone actively bringing new players to the site!

By the way can't wait to post with you again too.   lol

Sothrick, that's why I love this site, The creativity and freedom in making characters is second to none in this genre - at least in my experience. And I figure why make boring characters (unless it's an NPC who's just gonna get whacked)? But, even though I am improving in my character creation, I still feel like making them TOO exotic is a problem on my end. I tend to go for races that are seldom played, or a hybrid.

But they are fun to write. As long as I can get approval first. lol

Oh I thought you were making a joke.

I think that was Darsyn Syntranos. He was transferred immediately after he got there to the Pulsar. I didn't put that in his history because it was only a few hours in game.

If I recall correctly, Ohmsford is the name of the CSO I posted with briefly before he met an ugly demise and I ended up taking over CSO duties on the Chin'toka.

Sorry, I looked back and my brief crossing of paths with Ohmsford was actually on the Copernicus. I get the details all mixed up after a few years. THIS is why it is a good idea to update your bio and to write good mission logs...lol...

I'm a retired player, in my fifth characterisation, started about 2006, I think. Struggled at first with the game but had good CO's, FO's and DH's to guide me. I relate to the one who said in this thread that players and characters wear out for various reason. I have a favourite character of my. And some characters I killed off. I usually lasted about 4 years with each re-in-character-isation.

I keep return because I love the game. When the plots are good it's great to play. But on the other hand what I think is a poor plot, is a great plot for another player.

I take my hat off to the Admins and CO's who do a sterling job, and they have set me straight a couple of times, which was needed.

And when I run out of steam (or should that be Solar) I'll take a break for what ever reason and I'll probably re-join again.
