Keir's group materialized on the surface and the Acting CE immediately spoke upon arrival.

"Midshipmen I want a full scan of the immediate area surrounding us focusing on any energy or physical anomalies, and for the rest of us we will pause pending those results, Doctor Tahn you obviously have your orders and as I said on the ship we will remain in support of your priorities for the time being.”

Keir’s tone became more forceful as s/he added: “With respect for the remaining members of this away team please remember we are on a diplomatic mission and as such I expect you all to recognize that the Romulans are currently our allies.

We should strive to remember that and act accordingly, and as such if you have any preconceived notions or prejudices I expect you to put those aside and remember that you represent Star Fleet.”

S/he didn’t bother to ask that they acknowledge understanding, assuming that hir tone was sufficient to promote a calm and professional demeanour.

Materializing with the team, med kit in her hand and phaser on her hip. It was the better to have it locked up somewhere, but orders were orders. She was just grateful to have Reddington with her, he was defiantly the one on the ship she knew the most. Now that they were there, she had no bad feelings about anyone, and that really wasn't what she was there for. As a doctor she didn't have the time of day to really hate anyone, especially people she had never met before. Keir was right about the fact that they were on a diplomatic mission, A mission that she had no idea how it was going to go, or even who she was going to meet.

As much as Arwen wanted to explore, she wanted to stay with the group. There was still the meet and greet to do, and who really knew how that was going to go. Until that time, she was just going to remain silent for the time unless spoken too.

== For Keir, Tahn, Karuth, Constantine and Brown. ==

As the team of doctors and engineers materialized, they found themselves in a corner of what appeared to be a large waiting room. This was the ground floor of the hospital. A series of doors to the right led out into the city, while to the left were a bank of turbolifts and stairs. The open room extended further behind the lift and stairs but was mostly hidden from view. Hospital staff, dressed in green uniforms, walked back and forth in all directions. Various plants and wall hangings decorated the area.

On the far side of the room were several kiosks and counters. Some were physically manned while others were simply computer information terminals. In front of the kiosks and counters sat two rows of couches partially occupied by Romulans of various ages and demeanors. Some seemed anxious and worried, while others appeared bored or irritated. Two children ran back and forth between the aisles, apparently playing some type of game.

The side of the room where the team had arrived contained the public transporter system. Arrivals would beam in to one section of the area, while another section was dedicated to departures. City residents could beam to any other terminal in the public system or to a private transporter pad if they wished. Security guards were stationed at the pads and the doors to the hospital.

As the team stepped off the arrival pad, one of the guards nodded at them and waved them through the security station without a check, aware of their reason to visit. Standing off to the side were two hospital employees, one older male and one younger female. The man was dressed in a stylish Romulan business suit while the woman was wearing the green uniform of a staff member. The man was carrying a haud, the Romulan version of a padd, as he stepped toward the group.

"Ah, you must be Doctor Tahn," he said with a smile, indicating Keir. "Welcome to s'Droall Public Hospital. I'm Hhirl Khev, general manager."

== For me and Daniel ==

The beam down coordinates that Enriov Seidhri had given Adaran led to a small public transport terminal near the city's port in an area that might be politely described as drab and dingy. It wasn't a part of the city that most residents would visit unless they had business here, and its narrow streets were mostly populated by Romulan dockworkers and freighter crew of various species. No sooner had the Adaran and Daniel materialized than they were brusquely shoved off the padd by two large Orion men.

"Pardon us," one of them said as he shoved a datacard into the terminal.

"Hey, watch it, buddy," Adaran started to say, but they beamed away before s/he could finish the sentence.

S/he sniffed the air, detecting scents s/he'd rather not have detected. "Well, Seidhri did say it was in a secluded area," s/he commented. S/he pointed down the street. "This way, I think," s/he added. "Or at least I hope. It's called the Rusty Trill, whatever that's supposed to mean."

S/he took off in that direction, looking up at the five and six story buildings lining the road. Shops and business of all kinds lined the sides of the street, from transport officers to pawn shops to liquor stores to small food shops and restaurants.

S/he was somewhat surprised that they materialized within the hospital but quickly recovered as a Romulan administrator approached.

Keir offered a smile; and a nod of respect for the man; s/he spoke respectfully to correct his misapprehension.

"I am honored to make your acquaintance General Manager Hhirl Khev. I am Lieutenant Keir 77 assigned as the leader of the away team however;" and s/he gestured towards Arwen "This is Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Arwen Tahn and Midshipman Helen Constantine. They are here representing our Medical department.

I am the Yoritomo's Chief Engineer and these are my officers. Midshipman John Brown and Midshipman Balamuni Karuth."

Stepping to the side Keir made room for the Medical officers to meet.

== For Xenara and Sothrick ==

As Sevala, Xardeen and Sothrick materialized, they found themselves in a medium-sized room with doors at either end but no windows. The walls were beige in color, and hanging on one of them was the symbol of the Democratic Romulan Republic. Various signs in Romulan script also hung on the wall, declaring this room a security screening area and listing various rules of conduct to be obeyed whilst in the building. In the middle of the room stood several armed, uniformed Romulans, members of the Senate's private security force. One man sat at a computer terminal, with five others in various positions nearby. Two watched the away team, while three worked on standing consoles.

The man at the desk nodded at the arriving Star Fleet officers. "Welcome to the Democratic Romulan Republic Senate," he said politely. "You're cleared to proceed. Please follow these two guards to the reception chamber."

The two Romulans who had been watching the away team, a man and a woman, indicated the door at the far end of the room. "This way, please," said the woman, and she started towards the door. The man stayed back to walk behind them.

As they reached the door, the female guard opened it and stepped through into a square chamber. She turned to the left towards a set of double doors, in front of which stood two other guards. Those two guards reached out to open both doors as the Federation officers approached, revealing another much larger room inside.

This large room was circular in shape with a high-domed ceiling. It was opulently decorated with fabrics and artwork, and in three directions were large windows that allowed a view out into the city, revealing that they were at least three or four stories above the ground.

The room was also filled with about three dozen people, many of them older and all of them Romulan, of course. Some were dressed in expensive clothing and wearing ceremonial sashes, while others wore the uniforms of the DRR military. Another man sported the uniform of the RSE's Imperial Fleet. Everyone mulled around a set of tables, on which were placed various foods and drink. Several tables and chairs were also in the room.

The away team's arrival had obviously been relayed ahead, as they were greeted almost immediately when they stepped through the doors. An older Romulan woman stepped up to them and bowed towards Sevala.

"Ah, welcome, Sevala," s/he said. "Welcome home to Ecurai and to our humble Senate chambers."

The woman ignored Sothrick and Xenara. By protocol she would only greet someone of equal social rank, and the other two Star Fleet officers were simply servants in her eyes. This was the world of the rich and powerful, and not that of the regular Romulan citizen.

Sevala bowed in return. "Thank you, Praetor Rehu," she said. "It is good to see Ecurai again. I hope you're doing well."

"As well as can be expected in times such as these," Rehu replied.

Sevala indicated Xenara and Sothrick. "This is my attache, Lieutenant Xardeen," she said. "And this is my security escort, Commander Sothrick."

Rehu glanced at the two and smiled. "Welcome," she told them. Now that they had been properly introduced, she would acknoweledge them. "I hope you find our world to your liking."

Three other Romulans approached, including the man in the Imperial Fleet uniform. One of the other men bowed to Sevala.

"You are Sevala," he said. "I am Senator Mrian, representative of the Star Empire. This is my attache, Lhoell, and my security officer, Khaell."

Sevala greeted him and introduced Sothrick and Xenara.

"Please," Rehu told the three Star Fleet officers. "Enjoy the reception. Tonight we meet and formalize the treaties, but this afternoon we relax and celebrate. Help yourselves to food and drink."

And with another bow Rehu back away before turning and disappearing into the crowd, leaving them alone with the Star Empire representatives.

== Feel free to mingle, etc.

I'm not sure if Sothrick brought a weapon or not, but he is allowed to carry one as the security escort. Sevala and Xenara would not be allowed weapons inside the building. ==

When Xenara materialized, she wasn't anxious much as Captain Sevala had primed her on Romulan protocols and etiquette. What she didn't understand, she had to study. And since she couldn't read Romulan, she had to remember what those protocols and expectations were.

But she didn't need to be well versed in Romulan customs to know a politician when she saw one. After being shuffled through a few rooms, each larger than the one before, she entered a large, domed reception area, with views of the city. An elderly Romulan approached and introduced herself and her accomplices and completely ignored Xenara and the Vulcan Commander until Sevala introduced them.

Just like back home. This is going to be unbearable.

No matter where one went, one could always tell a politician by the way they acted and spoke. But, being that there was food and drink, she'd let it slide. It wasn't like she couldn't do anything about it.

Wait...did she just introduce me as Lieutenant?

She then realized she had forgotten her pip, which was probably a good thing as being a lowly Ensign wouldn't even bother a response from someone like the people in the room and would make it extremely difficult to mingle. If someone did some digging, which would consist of a simple search, they'd find out that she was only an Ensign and would be asking questions.

Good job, idiot.

As she couldn't bow with the added weight from her and Sevala's bags, she simply gave a respectful nod.

"Please," Rehu told the three Star Fleet officers. "Enjoy the reception. Tonight we meet and formalize the treaties, but this afternoon we relax and celebrate. Help yourselves to food and drink."

Xenara's mind immediately became suspicious of everything. This was a world she had hoped to never visit again. Not Ecurai, she had never been there in the first place, but the world of politics. There was indeed a reason Captain Adaran had assigned her to Sevala as her assistant and Xenara started to get a sense of why. As Sevala would be engrossed in Romulan culture and wading through political agendas, Xenara had no such attachments and could concentrate on finding those who were intent on bringing a different ending to the night.

She turned to Sevala. "Always wanted to try real Romulan Ale. With your permission, Sir?"

== Just as an FYI Sothrick will if allowed, will have an Phaser Pistol, as well as a human projectile weapon known as a Judge. ==

As the team appeared Sothrick took quick note of his surroundings. He noted the placement of all the people in the first room. The first reception point had just a few guards. As they were moved through room to room the three of the second team away team walked silently.

Sothrick had prepared himself as mentally as he could but there was a slight pang of anxiety finding himself surrounded by Romulans.

As they met with the delegates Sothrick took in all the would be players one immediately introducing herself, not to all of them but to the Captain.

Having worked so closely with diplomats for most of his life it was not unexpected that he and the Ensign were not acknowledged until Sevala introduced them. He was not sure if the Captains mistake was intentional or not but he could see some significance in the Ensigns field promotion if it were not.

A Senator came and introduced himself and his attache Sothrick nodded towards the Security officer Khaell. Sothrick simply nodded to each of those that acknowledged him.

They offered them to take time to enjoy the food and what festivities were offered. The Ensign was quick to request a chance to try Romulan ale.

He wasn't familiar with the young officer or her, tolerances so he could not help but voice his concern.

"Easy, Lieutenant." He said with his inflection on the rank. He looked about the room. "Romulan ale can be, surprisingly strong." He added then bent down so to lower his voice to just over a whisper.

"... Remember why we are here and please keep a level head." He continued.

He then looked around the room and brought his attention back to the one Security liked mind he knew of for sure. Khaell.

He did not allow his mind to be fully open but he prodded through the room getting a feel for the emotions of those around him. If Khaell gave himself space from his charge Sothrick would make his way towards him all the while staying somewhat close and within vision of Captain Sevala.

Tahn smiled as she was greeted. "Yes I am, and it is a pleasure to meet you," She kept a good composure, and couldn't wait until her team could get in. Plus it was confirmed that she was not the only one who had plans for Romulan Ale, but she knew it had to be handled properly. Her surroundings seemed like a typical hospital so far, and she wasn't overly shocked.

Part of her wanted to start to help some of the people in the waiting room, but she was a guest there and wasn't cleared. Having her team there made things a bit easier, and helped to maintain her own calm. There was going to be lots of time to find out what was going on, and right now it was the higher up brass to hammer out the details. Right now she was taking in the sights, and how people were reacting to their presence. Right now all she was doing was waiting for instructions.

Daniel wasn’t exactly sure what he expected, but as he and the Captain materialized at their coordinates, he couldn’t help feel a little disappointed in their surroundings. It seemed like a tired run down section of the city.

I hope this isn’t how the whole city looks.

Before they could get their bearings a man shoved a datacard into the terminal, only grumbling   "Pardon us.”

"Hey, watch it, buddy," The Captain said but they beamed away before s/he could finish the sentence.

“Friendly sort,” Daniel said sarcastically.

"Well, Seidhri did say it was in a secluded area," said the Captain as s/he pointed down the street. "This way, I think, or at least I hope. It's called the Rusty Trill, whatever that's supposed to mean."

Daniel shrugged his shoulders. “Well, this certainly isn’t the scenic part of the city. Or at least I hope it isn’t. And I have a feeling the Rusty Trill will be as bad as it sounds,” said to the Captain as he followed behind hir.

Balamuni materialized, she looked around and was taken aback, as she had expected to beam into a Power facility or a Space Port, she clearly wasn’t expecting a Hospital, she took a deep breath, it smelled like antiseptic.

So many Romulans. So many. Thought Balamuni.

She looked around, on the far side of the room were several kiosks and counters. Some were physically manned while others were simply computer information terminals, no doubt to allow visitors to look up what room their loved ones were in, probably a map of the Hospital and the grounds. In front of the kiosks and counters and opposite a row of large windows sat two rows of couches partially occupied by Romulans of various ages and demeanors. Dispersed among the couches and chairs were potted plants, various artwork and tapestries hung on the walls depictions of families engaging in fun activities, as well as various Romulan animals. Some of the Romulans seemed anxious and worried, while others appeared bored or irritated. Two children ran back and forth between the aisles, apparently playing some type of game.

Wow, Romulans really seem to care, at least for their own.  Thought Balamuni.

She looked around her, the building was impressive, the Mirak on the other hand didn’t necessarily have such facilities, they relied on the bounty of the jungle, at least the Mirak Tigris did, it really wasn’t until they signed a treaty with the Federation did they start to get advanced medicine.

Suddenly, she felt herself confused, the idea of Old Romulans, Young Children, sick and infirm Romulans confused Balamuni, she had always thought of the Romulans as Soulless creatures, incapable of caring and love.

Balamuni noticed two Romulans making their way towards them, an older man and a young woman. Balamuni wasn’t sure who they were or what they wanted.  The older man then spoke, "Ah, you must be Doctor Tahn," he said with a smile, indicating Keir. "Welcome to s'Droall Public Hospital. I'm Hhirl Khev, general manager."

Balamuni was happy Lieutenant Keir was here, especially when she spoke, "I am honored to make your acquaintance General Manager Hhirl Khev. I am Lieutenant Keir 77 assigned as the leader of the away team; however," and s/he gestured towards Arwen "This is Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Arwen Tahn and Midshipman Helen Constantine. They are here representing our Medical department.

I am the Yoritomo's Chief Engineer, and these are my officers. Midshipman John Brown and Midshipman Balamuni Karuth."

As no one was directly speaking to her Balamuni gave a small respectful bow of the head. She wasn’t even sure what she would say if any one of them spoke to her. This whole place reminded her of her beloved Grand Pride Mother, she recalled her teaching Balamuni all about the medicinal herbs of the jungle, it brought a smile to her face.

"Easy, Lieutenant." Sothrick had said with his inflection on the rank. He looked about the room. "Romulan ale can be, surprisingly strong." He added then bent down so to lower his voice to just over a whisper.

"... Remember why we are here and please keep a level head." He continued.

So Commander Sothrick heard it too. Well, he would with those ears.

Xenara was almost certain that her promotion was nothing more than a slight exaggeration to gain favor with all of the elite Romulan officials. She seriously doubted that anyone lower in rank would be allowed to attend, let alone be accepted socially. If it came down to it, Captain Sevala could easily stand firm on her decision and say that she gave Xenara a field promotion. but Xenara had never heard of someone getting a filed promotion outside of battle.

I mean it's not like I'm going to contest it...Might even make Daniel slightly jealous...but is it full or Junior Grade?

But Commander Sothrick's warning about alcohol wasn't lost on her either. If she was going to relive her childhood and young adulthood vicariously through Romulan politics, she'd need something to take the edge off and keep her civil.

"Understood, Sir," she said as she matched the Vulcan's tone and volume. "But if I'm going to be dealing with politicians, I fear alcohol might be my only recourse."

Memories from her time on Gemworld and Earth came back in waves. The real reason she joined Starfleet was to get away from politics, but who was she to refuse an order. Her mother was still upset with her decision, but at least understood it. Especially after her last encounter with a drunken Elaysian male who was in her mother's employ. She had been just a year shy of coming of age in Elaysian standards. Had she been considered an adult, it would have been much more difficult to prove her innocence.

Don't think about that now. It's not like you can defend yourself any better than before anyway. Besides, you're only here for a few days at most. What could happen?

"Besides," she continued, "I have yet to discover that limit. And I scored high at the Academy." She added a playful wink, but had no intention of disobeying a direct order.

== For Keir, Tahn, Karuth, Constantine and Brown. ==

Khev seem embarrassed at his mistake in confusing Keir for Tahn. He wasn't used to dealing with non-Romulans, and many alien species honestly looked alike to him. He recovered quickly though and smiled at each away team member as they were introduced. His smile became a bit nervous as he nodded at Karuth. He had never been that close to a Mirak in person before, and he wasn't sure what to expect from her. He wasn't afraid, just unsure.

Indeed, at this point most of the Romulans in the area had noticed the new arrivals and were staring at them curiously. While the DRR had relied on trade with many species for their survival, it was uncommon to see non-Romulans in the heart of the city, and especially in the hospital. Aliens mostly kept to the area near the port. But as for Karuth, no one had ever seen a Mirak before, and many eyes were staring at her with a mix of fear and curiosity.

"I'm sorry for my confusion," he said to Tahn and Keir, and then he nodded at the rest of the team. "Welcome to S'Droall," he told them.

He then motioned towards the younger woman who was with him. "This is Doctor Emni Iawaain," he said. "She's one of our finest surgeons, and she studied in the Federation for several months as part of a medical exchange program. I'm sure she'll be helpful in explaining the differences in Romulan medicine and Federation medicine."

Iawaain nodded. "I'm pleased to be of service," she said.

Khen glanced at the group. "Which of you are taking the tour?" he asked. "All of you?"

== Adaran and Daniel ==

As Adaran and Daniel walked down the street, Adaran kept an eye out for anything named the Rusty Trill. Most of the shops name didn't have translations to Federation Standard, and s/he had to rely on hir ability to read Romulan script, something s/he'd learned but hadn't used in a while, so s/he was a bit rusty.

The narrow streets were somewhat crowded, and suddenly out of that crowd stepped a young human woman with long blonde hair. She was dressed in a tight-fitting top with long pants and boots. She glanced at Daniel, and her eyes opened wide.

"Raoul! Raoul, it's me, Jennifer!" she shouted. "Don't you remember me? From the Aratama Maru?"

Jennifer rushed the few remaining steps to Danial and threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. "Oh, it's so good to see you again," she said, her hands sliding down towards where his pockets might be.

Adaran smirked. "Raoul? That's a new one."

A tall, tough-looking Bajoran man then suddenly stomped over towards Daniel and Jennifer, a frown on his face. "What's going on here?" he asked Daniel. "What are you doing with my girl?" His fists were clenched.

Adaran was momentarily distracted from the situation when s/he realized that most of the people that passed them were heading in the opposite direction as they were. That struck hir as rather odd. And some of them seemed to be in a hurry.

Balamuni like all predators could almost smell fear, there was something odd about these people, she knew she wasn’t imagining things when she felt as if everyone was watching her; they were watching her with a strange mixture of fear and curiosity. The curiosity probably because they have likely never seen a Giant bipedal Tiger before, the fear probably arose from the Mirak reputation of being deadly fighters never giving up, even when the odds are against them.

They are probably sizing me up to see what kind of slave I would make.  Thought Balamuni.

Balamuni so wanted to go over to one of those terminals and see if she could find out if she could locate any information that would lead her to which slave market the Romulans took her Grand Pride Mother to. The sad reality of it was the Prions were the only one’s who sold living beings as slaves.

Balamuni felt her anger building up inside, she knew how cruel Romulans could be towards non-Romulans. Oh, they act so helplessly against their own kind, but willingly killed and tortured others.

Don’t think that way, as the Terrans say, never judge a book by its cover. Thought Balamuni.

Balamuni had to admit, the Hospital surprised her, she had always expected Romulan Architecture and Design to be different, darker, and more intimidating. This place was actually bright and cheery.

Balamuni stood silently watching and waiting,

Khev said, "I'm sorry for my confusion," he said to Tahn and Keir, and then he nodded at the rest of the team. "Welcome to S'Droall," he told them.

Balamuni returned his head nod but kept silent. On one level she wanted to hate these people, but to see the young children playing, and the Romulans taking care of elderly Romulans touched her deeply, her perception of them was slowly changing.

They almost seem like they care. Thought Karuth.

Balamuni wasn’t sure what the purpose of the tour was, it was a Hospital, but then again it may give her an opportunity should she spot a face she recognized, to ask questions.

== For Sothrick ==

Sothrick can sense nothing out of the ordinary for such an occasion.

== For Sothrick and Xardeen ==

Sevala nodded at Xenara's request try Romulan Ale. "One glass," she said. "We mustn't drink too much before the signing ceremony."

Sevala then noticed someone across the room that she knew from her days on Ecurai, and she smiled.

"Ah, if you'll excuse me a moment," she told the RSE Senator, Mrian. "I need to say hello to an old friend." And with that, she began to make her way across the room. She only made halfway there, though, when she was stopped by another woman, a DRR Senator, who greeted her and began to talk.

Meanwhile, after Sevala had left, Senator Mrian, from the RSE, had turned away without saying anything to Xardeen or Sothrick. His attache Lhoell politely smiled at both the Star Fleet officers.

"If you'd like Romulan ale," he said to them. "I'll show you the bar and make sure you get the proper variety. The Romulan ale they make here on Ecurai is of inferior quality, but the ale we brought from Eilhaunn is only the best."

He motioned toward a set of tables in the room with one of his hands.

The security officer, Khaell stood silently behind him, watching both the Federation delegation as well as Mrian and Khaell.

The confusion didn't bother Arwen too much, and was more than happy to put it behind her. She was even glad that there was a highly qualified tour guide, and one that was familiar with Federation Medicine. She just wasn't sure about how well they knew about Trill Medicine, everything about it had to be exact or it could prove deadly to the host.

"Its perfectly fine, mistakes could happen to anyone."  She said in a calm voice. "A pleasure to meet you Doctor Lawaain, I look forward to learning from you." It was a rare opportunity to learn, especially since some of her crew could benefit from her learning this. "I have with me Midshipman Constantine who is a gifted doctor, and Raymond Reddington he is a great medical assistant." There was a lot to learn there, and Arwen needed to give her absolute attention . There was a lot of detail that she needed to make note of. For her it was a delight to be part of this, and it was defiantly soothing to to have Sothrick there as well to her it was an even bigger comfort. That was something she was certain he could detect, and she didn't mind opening up about.

Again she opened up again. "I would love to have myself and my team to go on the tour of this fine hospital, I love the opportunity to see how you run your hospital." Arwen always had a curiosity that would never fully be satisfied, and this is what she thrived on.

"Understood, Sir," The newly promoted officer whispered back "But if I'm going to be dealing with politicians, I fear alcohol might be my only recourse."

Sothrick knew her file and history well. It was something they shared in common though he was sure she did not know. He resistance to the political environment he understood all to well.

The scene was reminding him of his time traveling with his father. He stood much as he was now, as Security to the often over self important, self indulgent blowhards seemingly happy with the constant pontificating and peacocking. All in the name of their government. He personally held no taste for it which caused a rift between his father and him who had hoped would have the younger Vulcan follow in his fathers footsteps as it were.

"Besides," she continued, "I have yet to discover that limit. And I scored high at the Academy." nodded and he returned the nod.

"I understand, more than you may realize..." He said his gray eyes darting around the room as he spoke. "My father is also a diplomat as it were and I, like you grew up in this world as well with no desire to be back in it. So after this is done I will buy, and perhaps share, that more stiff drink with you. But remember you are double duty as a security officer as well." He added drawing his eyes back to hers.

"That doesn't necessarily mean a physical need. There is much going on here I need you to be at least another set of eyes and ears here. You let me know if you feel anything amiss." He whispered. He then drew back to the young man offering the Romulan ale.

Sothrick nodded to Xardeen. "If you would bring me just a glass of water please, Lieutenant." And then turned to Khaell.

"So have you been with the Senator long?" Sothrick plainly asked.

Xenara hadn't had the proper credentials to gain access to Sothrick's file, so she could only take him on his word. But then, Vulcans were generally trustworthy. At least they shared a few things in common: alcohol and a loathing for politics. But it wasn't like she was going to disobey a direct order, from either her own Commanding Officer or anyone higher in rank, so she'd keep it to the one glass so she could keep her mind sharp.

She didn't mind being an escort or an attaché, but so far she really didn't have anything good to put in her logs or to write home about. Not that she was a writer in any sense of the word, she just said how she felt, but she was decent at retelling events as she experienced them. But in the back of her mind, warning claxons had started their symphony. Even though she was...well...apparently a Lieutenant now at least for the time being, she knew that missions like these always ended with some sort of excitement.

"I'm going to hold you to that drink, Commander," she said with a wink as Lhoell motioned toward the bar where the good stuff was. She thanked the Romulan and walked off, as much as one could in her condition.

As she walked, she took her time and watched the other people, mostly out of sheer curiosity as she had never been to a Romulan world before, but also to see who the major payers were, who to watch out for and who could be potential allies. As she didn't know anyone, she kept to herself as she made her way to the bar. Her friends at the Academy always said that bars were pretty much the same everywhere at least in one aspect; the bartender usually knew everything.

Not to mention the servers. They always chat people up.

But there didn't appear to be a bartender. Or servers.

Oh, one of those kinds of parties.

She helped herself to a glass of Romulan Ale and poured a glass of water for Sothrick, then made a small plate of food for the both of them to share if he wanted, and began to make her way back to him, all the while looking for anything out of the ordinary. Even though she was on an alien world with alien customs and mannerisms, she should still be able to tell if someone was hiding something or acting in a certain way that said hey, I'm thinking of doing something bad

Those were pretty much universal and didn't usually need a translator.

And being a lowly Lieutenant, she wondered if anyone would even want to talk to her as she tried to make herself less conspicuous by admiring the scenery and the food.

Gifted Doctor? thought Constantine, quite pleased with herself. It was nice to finally be recognized for her obvious talent. She smiled lightly. Maybe the emotional high from being complimented would manage to get her through what would doubtlessly be an incredibly boring tour. Then again, Romulans had an... efficiency that she quite admired. I might be able to nab some Romulan ale while I'm here, she mused, to save for a special occasion, or course. Or to send to Mother. If anyone can appreciate hard liquor, it's her.

== All right. Time to die have fun. ==

== For Xardeen and Sothrick ==

Khaell glanced momentarily at Sothrick as the Vulcan asked him a question, and then his gaze drifted back over the room.

"I'm assigned to the Senate on Eilhaunn," he explained. "I protect many Senators, not just Mrian. It was an honor to be chosen for this assignment."

He glanced back at Sothrick. "And you?" he asked politely.

As Xenara looked around the room, she saw nothing unusual, or at least nothing unusual for a group of upper-class Romulan politicians. There was much posturing, and much hot air being exchanged, but no one appeared to be acting suspiciously. One well-dressed gray-haired man accidentally bumped into her as he headed towards the door. He glanced at her with a slight look of disdain and said nothing to offer an apology, stopping only long enough to brush off his sleeve before he walked on and left the chamber.

Suddenly, a muted sound, like distant thunder, could be heard throughout the room, though the panoramic view from the windows in the chamber showed not a single cloud in the sky. A few seconds later, another thunderclap could be heard, this time much closer, and in a distant part of the city, a cloud of smoke and debris could be seen beginning to rise above the rooftops, followed by a second cloud much closer to the Senate building. The Senate building itself shook weakly as the blastwaves reach it. And then, all of sudden, the building shook violently as another blast went off, this time directly near or in it.

Walls cracked. Windows shattered. Tables and chairs rattled and were knocked over. Lighting swayed as the ceiling wobbled, and then large chunks of debris and chandeliers began to drop to the floor. People began to scream and panic. The floor danced from both the strength of the blast and the debris falling on it.

== For the team at the hospital ==

Iawaain smiled and nodded at Tahn's greeting. "Likewise," s/he replied. "It should be an interesting day for all of us."

Both Iawaain and Khev smiled at the other two medical personnel as Tahn mentioned their inclusion on the tour.

"Excellent," said Khev. "Then shall we get started? We can begin with our emergency room. It's in the west annex." He motioned towards one side of the ground floor. "This way please."

Then, all of a sudden, a loud sound, like thunder, could be heard not far away, followed a few seconds later by another thunderclap about the same distance. From the ground floor of the hospital, not much could be seen out the windows due to buildings across the street blocking the view, but it appeared to be sunny. And then the hospital itself shook slightly, as if an earthquake had occurred. A few seconds after that, another large thunderclap was heard, this time closer than the other two, and the hospital shook briefly again.

Everyone stopped what they were doing when they heard the first sound of thunder, and by the third sound people were beginning to get nervous. Unsure what was happening, a look of panic crossed the eyes of some of those in the waiting room.

Khev wheeled around in concern at the noise, looking towards the windows. "What was that?" he asked.

== Adaran and Daniel ==

Adaran's observation that people were streaming away from the inner part of the city towards the landing areas became more apparent as s/he watched the crowd. S/he tried to stop someone and ask if something was happening, but no one would talk. And then all of a sudden, a loud, deafening explosion was heard a few blocks away, and the ground began to shake violently. The shaking lasted several seconds, sending people to the ground and knocking down signs from buildings. A blast cloud could be seen drifting through the streets a few blocks in front of hir, and then bits of debris started falling from the sky. People began to panic, and they started running towards the landing area, away from the blast.

Adaran tried to both shield hirself from the falling debris and keep hirself from getting knocked down by the crowd. S/he nudged hir way through them to take shelter under the doorway of a shop, where s/he stopped to get hir bearings. S/he had no idea where Daniel had ended up. The debris cloud had drifted further down the street, and the air was now full of dirt and the acrid smell of explosives. Two more explosions were heard from other parts of the city, shaking the ground slightly again.

As Xenara slowly made her way back to the Vulcan Security Chief, she hadn't payed much attention to her own immediate surroundings as much as she should have, as she was trying to discern anything amiss among the crowd, because a seemingly well dressed Romulan man had bumped into her and almost made her choke on the morsel she was in mid bite of. She took a moment to chew and swallow, which allowed the man to apologize for being so rude, but she received no such consolation.

"I believe the correct response when bumping into a lady is 'excuse me'," she said, but didn't really expect a response and instead watched the man be even ruder, dust off his garb and walk away. "Typical," she said, and made sure he heard her.

As she took a sip of her Romulan Ale, she heard a loud boom, that reminded her of thunderstorms on Earth and she wondered what the weather on Ecurai  was like, when, as she looked toward one of the massive windows, she saw smoke and debris in a distant part of the city, then another, and, as the shockwaves reached the Senate building, they affected it more as they got closer, when the last blast actually felt like it hit the building itself.

Move, idiot!

People began to panic, but her training dictated that she didn't, but in stead instructed her to look for the people she had beamed down with.

But with her Nano-exoskeleton only just barely compensating her movements with every step, she found it hard to dodge falling debris, and thought about climbing under a table, but decided they wouldn't help much and instead used the tables to help her balance for however much support they provided as the building came down around her. She saw the massive doors about to come off of their hinges and decided it would be better to stay clear of them while she called out to and searched for her superior officers.

Balamuni felt truly odd and out of place here, she had expected to beam down to deal with engineering issues, not tour a Hospital, but she stood waiting thinking that an engineering issue would present itself. She watched and listened as the Doctors exchanged small talk.

She looked around, the Hospital was starting to become just a bit creepy for her liking, the crowds were still staring at her, she felt like an insect under a microscope.

Balamuni watched as Iawaain smiled and nodded at Tahn's greeting. "Likewise," s/he replied. "It should be an interesting day for all of us."

A tour of a Romulan Hospital is not something I really want to do. Thought Balamuni.

Balamuni noticed that both Iawaain and Khev smiled at the other two medical personnel as Tahn mentioned their inclusion on the tour, which was great for them, but what did it benefit her to go on the tour.

"Excellent," said Khev. "Then shall we get started? We can begin with our emergency room. It's in the west annex." He motioned towards one side of the ground floor. "This way please." Balamuni watched in the direction Khev was motioning towards.

Then, all of a sudden, a loud sound, like thunder, could be heard not far away, followed a few seconds later by another thunderclap about the same distance. From the ground floor of the hospital, not much could be seen out the windows due to buildings across the street blocking the view, but it appeared to be sunny. Khev wheeled around in concern at the noise, looking towards the windows. "What was that?" he asked.

Balamuni twisted around towards the windows at the loud thunder boom, she wasn’t afraid of thunder, back home they had major thunderstorms, it’s just that she was focused on the Romulans around her.

That doesn’t sound like any Thunder I have ever heard. Thought Karuth.

Balamuni let out a small sigh, she looked around, to see if the Romulans would react to the thunder or not. Yes, that didn’t sound like any thunder she had heard before, but then again this was a different Planet there could be elements in the atmosphere, their architecture could all affect the sound of an atmospheric disturbance.

“Lt. Keir, but this is a Hospital, do we need to go on the tour, shouldn’t we be tackling an engineering issue?” Said Balamuni.

Balamuni had to admit that the sound of thunder was a surprise to everyone, but what was truly surprising to her was that she was reasonably sure the Yoritomo had scanned the city and she didn’t recall any mention of a storm front coming in.

Maybe severe weather is the normal thing around here.  Thought the young Engineer.

Balamuni notice out of the corner of her eye, a rather stern-looking Romulan Woman, she was an angry-looking woman with short shoulder length hair, deep green eyes, and a very sour look on her face, her hair was jet black with a grey streak just to the top of her left ear. Balamuni wasn’t sure if she was old or if the streak was some strange Romulan fashion trend?  The woman was dressed in one of the ugliest dresses Balamuni had ever recalled seeing, the woman was somewhat stout, on a medium frame.

== Temp NRC- Romulan Civilian -Lady Nirrin Sureen ==

Lady Sureen was at the s'Droall Public Hospital. She was coordinating a charity benefit for the Children Hospital Annex of s’Droall Hospital, she was the wife of Senator Etain Sureen and she never missed an opportunity to remind everyone who she was.

Lady Sureen was making a beeline directly towards Hhirl Khev, she was waving what Balamuni assumed was a purse, it was more of a clutch bag than a purse.

Excuse me….!!!! Excuse me….!!!!! Mr. Khev, what in the world is going on here, artillery going off over our head and now……in our Hospital a Federation invasion force, really. My Husband Senator Sureen will hear of this, you can be sure of that.” Said Lady Sureen. She then turned towards the Away Team and stated in that Aristocratic tone that Balamuni recognized from her own mother. “I ‘am Lady Nirrin Sureen wife of the right honorable and distinguished Senator Etain Sureen. How dare you invade a Hospital, look about you, these are innocent children and distinguished elderly, not a garrison of soldiers. The very idea, really you Federation types warmongers all of you.” Added Sureen.

Sureen and her husband were political newcomers, their position was that the Democratic Romulan Republic. didn’t need a treaty with the Federation as it would only serve to anger The Romulan Empire and invite them to invade and conquer Ecurai.

“Oh, and look at this, you brought a filthy beast with you, a Mirak how unsanitary.” Said Lady Sureen her face scrunched up as if she were smelling something bad. “Mister Khev is it common practice to allow such creatures into a place of healing and hope? “She said as she pulled out what Balamuni assumed was a Romulan Data PADD. “M.. i.. r.. a... k. in the lobby,” She said muttering to herself.

== Engineering Midshipman Balamuni Karuth. ==

Balamuni on one level had to fight the urge to toss this woman across the Lobby on her head, but on another level, she was amused, as this Lady Sureen reminded her of her mother on some levels. Balamuni’s mother was a whirlwind, she too was a force for change, but often clung to tradition, but she would never act like that in public.

Balamuni stepped up to this Lady Sureen and gave her a bow and said, “Oh forgive me, they wanted me to stay on board, but when we heard that the Charming and lovely Lady Nirrin Sureen was going to be here today, I pleaded with my Superiors to allow me this rarest of opportunity to just glimpse such a Lady of refinement and breeding, you have no idea how much of an honor it is to encounter with one of the Galaxies most noted women. I must say your Holoimages don’t do you justice. “Said Balamuni.

== For Xenara and Sothrick ==

As the shaking subsided, pieces of the ceiling kept falling, some of them large enough to break tables and chairs, though most were smaller in size. Two such smaller pieces feel on Xenara's head as she stood in the open looking for her companions, breaking apart and coating her in dust.

Neither Sothrick nor Sevala could be immediately seen. There were several people on the floor, injured, or perhaps dead, and covered in pieces of the ceiling. The floor was littered in debris. About half of the room's occupants were still standing, trying to keep clear of any falling objects. The Romulan Senator who was there for the treaty signing was one of them. He was holding his shoulder, his body covered in dust and chunks of ceiling. He stumbled around, stepping over debris, looking for his attache and security officer.

Not far from Xenara, a woman lay on the floor, covered in dust with a big chunk of ceiling laying across her leg. She was clearly in pain, and she reached out towards Elaysion.

"Help me, please," she said.

Meanwhile, as the blast had hit, both Khaell and Sothrick found themselves under a section of ceiling that was about to collapse. The Romulan security officer noticed it first, and acting quickly he tried to push the Vulcan out of the way. A chunk of the ceiling hit him, though, before he could, and it caused both he and Sothrick to fall to the ground. Khaell landed on top of Sothrick, and a chunk of ceiling landing on top of Khaell. Dust and smaller debris quickly covered them. The Romulan security officer was unconscious, or perhaps dead. Both his weight and the weight of the debris held Sothrick down. He would have to dig himself out.

The doors to the room had held, but they were now positioned in such a way as to make it impossible to open them. As the building was also under a transport inhibitor, that meant there was no way out of the room at the moment, unless one were to climb down the side of the building, which was four stories tall. Everyone inside was on their own, until they could get help.

The sound of sirens could be heard going off in the city.

== For the hospital team ==

As the sound of the blasts and the shaking of the ground subsided, news slowly trickled in as to what was happening. Sirens began to go off in the city, and people began to get scared.

Hanging along one of the walls of the waiting room was a large telescreen, over which news and entertainment was being broadcast to waiting patients and their families. The telescreen now suddenly issued a loud, annoying series of beeps, trying to get everyone's attention, and the image on the screen turned into that of two serious but concerned Romulan males.

"We interrupt this broadcast to bring you important news," said one of the men. "A series of explosions have occurred throughout Thaliij. The first one went off at the offices of the Port Authority. A moment later, a second explosion occurred at the Republic's military headquarters. And a third then went off at the Senate building itself, where the treaty signing was taking place."

Images appeared as each building was mentioned. The Senate building was badly damaged.

"No information of who is responsible or how many injured and dead there may be," the man on the telescreen said. "We'll inform you of any new developments as they occur. For the time being, city officials ask that citizens stay away from the affected areas. Go home if you can, and keep safe."

Khev immediately sprung into action as he heard the news. Calls had already begun to come in to the hospital by that time. His communicator was going off, and he was talking quickly into it, answering calls, and making them. He had no time for any distractions.

"Get medical teams assembled, immediately," he told someone. "Call in every doctor, nurse, and tech that's off duty."

"Yes, yes," he said, answering one call. "The Senate. We'll get teams there right away."

He made another call. "Have medical shuttles ready to depart to the Senate building."

The Senate building was, of course. where Xenara, Sothrick and Sevala had beamed down.
