Hi friends! As I've recently been granted wiki access, I've been pouring over the pages. Guess what I didn't find?! The rules every Ferengi lives by!! Shock and surprise! So, I've gone and made a wiki page for the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition, and now I'm a bit sad over how many blank spaces there are.

Wanna help me make up some rules? ;)

I've tried to find as many as I could on the interwebs, and I know some rules are doubled up, but I would absolutely LOVE your input.

This list is fascinating! I'd love to know what their sources are... quite a few of these Rules are different than what I've found on Memory Alpha or Beta though. =/

I'm more surprised there hasn't been an actual Ferengi Rules of Acquisition released already. Especially when there's all sorts of tech manuals for Star Trek, and even a damn Klingon dictonary. I do know Memory Beta has a good list of rules that are mentioned in the various novels and episodes.

There has been! It's not a full list, unfortunately. I used Memory Alpha, Memory Beta, and that reference book to help fill the numbers! I'd love to hear other reputable sources, but I'd also love for people to make up some good ones, as well. :D

Possible Rule suggestion:

"If the client feels like they got a fair price, then clearly they paid too little, and should be charged much more for the next transaction to balance the accounts."

I knew that reference book existed, but I meant it's a ridiculous to think they haven't released a book with all the rules. But I guess books letting people know where the Enterprise's bowling alley is are more important, lol.

Though, I think it would be interesting to see what others come up with to fill in the blanks.

LOL!! Yeah, I think since the book came out in like 1997 or something, and the shows have said the rules are ever-growing, the gaps just grew and grew.

I found an ole meme while scrolling Instagram the other day, and it one of those "Points of <insert culture here> Wisdom." I thought a few sounded pretty good for our rules-to-add!:

1. Money cannot buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes Benz than on a bicycle.

2. Forgive your enemy, but remember his name.

3. Many people are alive only bc it's illegal to shoot them.

4. Alcohol does not solve any problem, but neither does milk.

Thoughts? More suggestions?

I love the first one. I think it's easy to make a Rule of Acquisition like this:

"Money cannot buy happiness, but it can get you comfort."

Here's one: "If it sounds too good to be true, then you haven't been paying attention."

I love this one! It definitely sounds wisely Ferengi.

There's one that went unused because it was in the draft of the DS9 episode Body Parts: "People will buy anything… especially junk". Fitting because that's the episode Quark thinks he's dying and place his upcoming vacuum-desiccated body to help pay his debts of after he dies.

Also, I can't believe no one has come up with "Time is latinum/money".

Oh, nice! I love seeing little things that slipped through the drafts!

(Also reminds me of every yard sale I've ever driven past, lol)

Have you never heard the phrase "Time is money" ????

Coolness!

I hope they make these rules canon for us.

Speaking of, how about another one?

"Customers are always right, as long as they have enough latinum."

"Treat your employees like family: exploit them!" - pretty sure this is an actual one...

"Women are women, but Latinum is LATINUM!" - Didn't Nog say something like this to Jake once? Seems like something a Ferengi would say/think or make a rule...

Well, I am making them canon-for-us! I've been given wiki powers, and am going through some corners with a bulldozer, lol. Check out the DS-9 and Voyager pages, for example! :)

I really like that one - it's definitely getting added.

I looked it up! Wording's a bit different (I like yours better) but yah, that's Rule #111.

That does sound familiar. Is there any way we can make it gender-neutral? I'm just thinking about how when Nog took over as Nagus, he was trying to move the Ferengi people towards a more gender-equal culture.

"Exploitation starts at home" is it I think

That one's Rule #110! There's a few about exploitation, and home, and similar, haha. I have to use the search function to figure them out!

I do agree with the dog one, just as a life rule! Are there dogs on Ferenginar???

Maybe just... "Never Choose love over Latinum." then?

Or.. "Love cannot buy you happiness. But Latinum can buy you love."

YESSSSSSSSSS dayuummm I love it!! Too bad #214 is already taken, lol, so I could make a knock on "Feb 14" , Valentine's Day. (N/A format MM/DD) Maybe it can be #142? Like DD/MM?
