My name is Chana Enzokuhle. I am a human female, 31 standard years old. My appearance is somewhat decieving as I am of average height, 5'6" tall and 135 pounds. I appear to be slightly build but carry a moderate amount of muscle on my frame. My voice is low pitched but can carry across the room when I need to make myself heard I have a dusky complection, very dark brown eyes, with dark brown hair, which is kept medium long. Although my hair is curly, while on duty I wear it pulled back and tucked into a neat bun. Off duty, I prefer to wear it down. I tend to dress in loose fitting pants with a comfortable blouse and light jacket with pockets holding notebook and tricorder.  

 

As is customary on my planet, although I am single, I have genetic material stored for future use. This is done by all Cestusian's as a precaution against another alien attack. I have security in knowing that if I fail to return home, my DNA is not lost to my family. This is especially important to my parents as I have no siblings. My father and mother chose to limit their family size, as both were fully occupied with their professional duties. Father is assistant to the Planetary Govenor, while Mother spends most of her time in research to develop defenses against attacks from space.  It has been 100 years since the Gorn attacked our colony and killed almost everyone living there. Still, the memory of being unprepared and defenseless has shaped our colony's conscious.

Parents' status:  traditional human union. Father is colony administrator, Mother is environmental scientist

Pets: none presently

Best Friend:  Neesi Diaz. Since elementary school where they were seated next to each other.  Neesi remains on Cestus III as a teacher of history. They remain in contact and share their worries and triumphs with one another.

Personal History:  Followed mother's interest in Science. Especially ecology and the complex interactions involved in keeping a healthy balance.

Academy Major: Ecology and Xenobiology

Academy Minor:  geology

Hobbies and Past times:  Interested in 20th Century gaming, especially RPG. She has some favorite programs for the Holodeck that allow simulated live interactions in the game

     She also enjoys primative activities such as camping and survival knowledge 

Short term goals:  To fulfill her duties as a Star Fleet Officer. Gain in person experience of non-Cessian organisms, including the non-human members of the Federation of Planets

Bad Habits, vices:   Often procrastinates, working best under the pressure of a deadline. She is occasionally guilty of drinking in excess, but only when in a controlled situation. 

Achievements:  Had graduated from the University of Cestus III and started her advanced studies before being accepted into Star Fleet Academy

Disapointments:  Having her research proposal into the environmental influence on producing aggressive species declined by the University

Illness:  Due to her life on Cestus III being mostly isolated from exposure to exoctic or unexpected diseases, she has had no significant illnesses. However, an injury at age 14 caused her to loose her left eye as well as an injury to the left hand. She was able to have prosthetics for both on Cestus III and when accepted into Star Fleet, recieved military grade upgrades to these.

Strengths: Persiverent to the point of stubboness.  Inate kindness which gives her the ability to gain the confidence of others

Weaknesses:  Has difficulty trusting others, sometimes judgemental and can demand high performace from those she cares about.

Fears:  Has difficulty forming close attachments due to a fear of being abandoned or left behind

The primary issue I see is that of your Personal History. Between what you wrote previously and the way you answered several of the questions in the bio, I can tell that you have a good idea of who Chana is, and what she's been through. You mention going to University before the Academy, a childhood injury that caused significant trauma, and a fear of abandonment, among other things. These are things that should be described - even if only somewhat - in your Personal History. You say you followed your mother into science; what did you father do, and how did your mother feel about you taking up the family business? What do they think of you joining Starfleet? What were you doing when you lost an eye and hand? I'm sure you have an idea of other things that might have happened to Chana before she joined the Academy, and those things should be included here.

 

I'd also like to see more of your reasoning for joining Starfleet later in life. Most cadets go through the Academy around age 20, graduating usually at age 22. To be 31 and graduating the Academy likely means there's a story to be told there. Give it a little thought, and include that as well.

 

Other than that, I do also need you to edit your Academy Major to simply be Science; Major is your department and Minors are your concentrations. Once you have done that minor change and then updated your Personal History, please repost your entire bio in one post, and we'll proceed from there! Pets:  She does not have any pets currently.  She had a childhood pet, a small rodent like animal adapted to the dry desert environment of the planet. 

Best Friend:  Her friend since childhood, Secilly Ybarra, remains on Cestus. She is employed as the assistant to the liason between the Humans and the Gorns on the planet.

Personal History:    At the age of eleven she was injured and her brother killed in an accident while exploring in the desert area outside of town. They had gone to hunt for fossils and Chana fell from an unstable canyon edge. She landed on a rocky area 10 feet from the edge. Her brother was trying to get to her and fell himself, going all the way to the bottom, at least 30 feet. His neck was broken on impact.  Chana had broken bones and a badly damaged eye on her left side. She was not found until the next day. By then, it was too late to repair the damage. She was sent to the Star Fleet Hospital for biomechanical prosthetics. She became interested in Star Fleet during this time due to personal contact with Star Fleet medical personnel.

 

She carried the guilt of her brother's death for years. Rather than attend the Academy on Cestus III and join the Eleventh Fleet, she elected to apply off planet. Her interest in science continued.  Chana studied evolutionary genetics and biodiversity at university before being accepted into Star Fleet.

Personality:  Chana is open and friendly. Very independent but able to work cooperatively with others. She has a meticulous, honest, approach to her studies. She is known for working with absolute focus on a problem, and brings the same focus to her leisure persuits.

Sense of Humor:  She has a dry wit, occassionally sarcastic.  Chana is a fan of intellectual humor and a particular fan of the 20th century comedian, George Carlin.

Phobias:  She has had a severe fear of heights which was resolved only after several years of counselling and use of desensitization therapy.  She is not a fan of being outside of a ship in open space and does require a visit to the med bay before any space walk activity.

Likes:  Chana takes especial pleasure in her work, solving a mystery through her research is what motivates her. She also enjoys expensive whiskey and upper shelf taquila. Time spent alone in the desert with the stars is one of her favorite ways to unwind.  She also is a fan of baseball. She roots for the Pike City Pioneers with enthusiasm.

Dislikes:  She is offended by sloppy research proposals and less than rigorous protocols.  Chana is not fond of physical humor, practical jokes, or explicitly sexual jokes.  Chana finds it unpleasant to attend offical, formal events with stiff uniforms and even stiffer conversation.

Pet Peeves/Gripes:  She has little tolerance for loud and obnoxious personalities.  Spending time with people who want to talk rather than converse is something that Chana finds tiresome, although sometimes unavoidable.

Bad Habits / Vices:  Chana will overinduldge in both food and drink when either or both are of excellant quality. Luckily, synthahol and replicator food seldom rises to that level.  Achievements:   She graduated from her undergraduate studies at the university a year sooner than average with excellent grades. She was able to get a small grant to work on her Master's project due to it's potential to relate environmental and genetic characteristics to predict a species prediliction for aggression.

Illnesses:  Other than the surgeries associated with her prosthetic limbs, Chana has enjoyed good health as is typical for citizens of the Federation. In spite of it's remoteness, Cestus III has excellent medical facilities due to the presence of the headquarters supporting the Eleventh Fleet.

Strengths:  Chana has a strong and resilent character. Highly intelligent, she is able to understand a situation and act on her conclusions confidently. But she is flexible and will change course as circumstances dictate.

She was sent to the Star Fleet Hospital for biomechanical prosthetics. During the next several years she spent a great deal of time there. Her limb prostheses required alteration as she grew and there were various upgrade to be made as the technology improved. Much of the science was derived from Borg implants studied by Starfleet scientists and doctors. She became friendly with the physical therapists she  saw for treatment. There were injured Fleet personnel in the hospital as well. Some from other planets and many that were not in the 11 Fleet. She became interested in Star Fleet during this time due to personal contact with Star Fleet medical personnel. Chana listened with interest to their stories of alien lifeforms and planets.  These interactions sparked an interest in broadening her horizons.

 

Since the death of Zynor, her parents’ marriage had become strained. They were unable to share their grief and home became a cold and unhappy place. Chana went to University and moved into an apartment with Secilly.  However, her restlessness and lack of strong connection with her family, eventually made her decision to go off world and join Star Fleet inevitable.

As you are a returning member in good standing, the Academy Administration have decided to forgo the usual training scenarios and go straight for the opt-out exam. The exam consists of 15 questions testing your ability to search the wiki, and three "essay questions" requiring you to demonstrate your posting abilities.

 

This test is pass/fail; if you pass, you'll be assigned a ship immediately. If you don't, we'll go through the regular regime to help you get where you need to be  

 

The test has been sent to you by e-mail. Please do not feel pressured, however; if you would rather not take the test and undergo the standard training instead, all you have to do is say so!
