Doing wiki updates to ensure things better match canon series, and it got me to wondering: do prefer the 6 colour system we've used for uniforms since founding, or is there interest in reverting to the traditional three to bring us closer to the series we all know and love?

This has been discussed by Admins in the past, but players were never consulted, and ultimately change never happened anyway.

Current FS System:

(Uniforms based on the "Odyssey" style from STO).

Command - Maroon

Tactical - Red

Engineering - Gold

Security - Orange

Science - Blue

Medical - Teal

Canon System:

(Uniforms taken from S2/3 of Picard).

Command/Tactical - Maroon

Engineering/Security - Gold

Science/Medical - Teal

As with the ships poll, this is mainly my attempt to gauge interest and record members' opinions and is not linked to any impending change nobody has announced yet! If people do want the change though, that's a fairly easy one to make as it's purely cosmetic!

Don’t mind sticking with the Odyssey style uniforms, as modern Trek has set plenty of precedent for multiple uniform styles operating in tandem, but definitely wouldn’t mind reverting to the three colors.

Just to throw my opinion into the ring. I'd personally say to keep the different departmental colors, but that might be because I'm a fan of the monster maroons, and they had different colors for just about every department.

If I were to make a change with the current color scheme, it would be to change Command. Unlike say between Engineering and Security there's not much of a difference to be honest, just a slightest darker red. Maybe white, reminiscent of STO.

Another reason to keep the colors as they are. In universe, I would think you'd want to be able to determine in what capacity someone is serving in.

For example, you see a guy in yellow. You're having an engineering problem, but surprise the guys not an engineer, but security.

On the other hand, you see someone in maroon and you know to shoot them first because they're command.

How about we all just wear pink and be done with it? :P

Well that's why command is supposed to stay with the ship. They're not supposed to get the fun and adventure. :P

I agree about using three colors. I do like the design of the Picard season 3 uniforms, though.

I personally enjoy the 6 color scheme we're currently using. Aesthetically, it makes the site more unique, and separates the departments better. I know and have seen that we are attempting to streamline some things such as ships to be more canon oriented, but doing it with ships makes sense. On the same token, since we're not run by the Star Trek overlords at Paramount/CBS/Viacom, we don't have to adhere to their "canon" standards. Ultimately, I do think you are right in getting everyone's opinions because this site is for us as fans. These polls prove that site admin do care about our opinions as well.

I will say I could see changing Command to a different color. White or black are definitely strong candidates in my opinion, but colors such as gray or charcoal would be cool, too.

We have always cared about members' opinions, but sometimes public opinion runs contrary to the decisions that need to be made. Such is the life of an admin :P

Great way to put it. Governing by everyone's opinions all the time isn't ever entirely feasible, even in just a game like FedSpace. It's a great way to gage the temperature of some things, that may/may not come to fruition.

Plus if you make changes based on everyone's opinion all the time, you could end up changing everything from day to day. Which could lead to pure chaos. Unlike you like chaos of course, lol.

Also, another argument for keeping things as they are: Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Picard all havr their own uniform style. Heck, even Lower Decks and Prodigy show multiple are in service at the same time. So why couldn't we have our own uniform and color palette?

Except that the Science/Medical color in Picard is blue, not teal.

I'd prefer to keep things as they are color-wise, perhaps with more variations of style. Maybe we could add the skort. And the Mirror Universe evil variant uniform, because it'd be hilarious.
