It’s been a while since we’ve done the 20 Questions column here on our blog. Today we’re featuring Sarah, the player behind Lieutenant Junior Grade Elizabeth Rage from the USS Intrepid, CA-1708. Sarah joined Federation Space back in January 2014, and has worked her way up the ranks to become Chief Tactical Officer aboard the Intrepid.
Age, Sex, Location?
I’m 27, female and live in Southern Indiana, about thirty minutes up from Louisville, Kentucky. If you ever come for a visit, you’ll be amazed by the vast amounts of corn fields…everywhere!
When did you first join FedSpace?
January 7, 2014
What brought you to FedSpace?
I had just finished watching Star Trek VI for like the millionth time and then hopped on my computer to check on a private LOTR RPG that I am a part of and I got to wondering. So I got on Google and looked up Star Trek RPG forum, I clicked on the first few that popped up and FedSpace caught my eye. I was blown away by how detailed and well done it was. I did a bit of research and a few days later I signed up.
Tell me a little about the process of developing your character.
Well, first off the name was easy for me to figure out. Elizabeth is my middle name, so I just needed a good last name to go with it. I figured it out when my cousin had been talking about something random, and at one point she had said the word rage and I put it together. As for the rest, she is mostly based off myself as I wanted someone I could easily relate too. I pretty much used myself as the starting point and went forward from there.
Do you think it is easier or more difficult to play someone based on yourself?
I think it’s a lot easier, all I have to do is imagine myself in whatever situation my character is dealing with, and then figure out what I would do. If that doesn’t work for me then I just completely come up with something off the top of my head and go with it, sometimes that works just as well.
So far, what is your favourite part about being a member of FedSpace?
Oh gosh, I love everything about it! I have made some amazing friends here, people that I even consider family. Out of everything I think that would be it, having made the friends that I have now, we’re a very close group on the Intrepid and I love that.
If you were president for a day, what would you change?
I can’t really think of anything that I would want to change, so far everything is great. Maybe have some more site wide missions, more interactions between different ships?
What makes a good Ship/Station?
I would think communication is a biggie, not just as your character but behind the scenes as well. Good leadership, those you can look up too and know that they will help you in any way they can. Friendship, kindness, and a willingness to help each other.
What do you spend your time outside of FedSpace doing?
Mostly working, that or going to class when the semester starts. I am currently trying to get a degree in Forensic Science, which I would say takes up the most of my time in the fall through spring. Three more semesters to go! Other than that, I do a lot of writing, do some running, play some games, chill with family, chat with the crew on Skype and a bunch of other random things. Not a whole lot of interesting things going on.
What is your favourite Star Trek series?
The original series defiantly, and I will shamelessly admit that I also loved Voyager. I guess I’m a sucker for someone who doesn’t always play by the rules. My father was the one who got me obsessed, I remember sitting in the living room with him wanting for new episodes of TNG to come on. After his passing I kept all his Star Trek stuff and ever since then I have been adding to his collection. I’ve got a lot of neat stuff, a lot of it in storage because I had no room for it all.
Do you have a favourite line or phrase from either a show or movie?
“May fortune favor the foolish”
Do you have a favourite character from the shows and why?
If I had no choice but to pick one it would be Bones, he’s so sassy! I love that he doesn’t change, just stays his same ol’ sassy self, and DeForest Kelley was amazing.
What piece of Star Trek Technology would you most like to see today?
Transporter, it would make my life so much easier! To be able to transport anywhere, I would never stop going to random places, visiting family that lives miles away. I would be able to sleep in longer before work, as I wouldn’t have to drive there. Things sure would be different.
What FedSpace player would you most like to meet in real life?
I cannot pick just one, I would have to say everyone from the crew of the Intrepid. Though I don’t think the world would be able to handle it, all of us together in one place…
What FedSpace character would you most like to meet in real life?
Honestly, I would find it interesting to meet my own character. Even though is she based off myself, she still has her differences and I would like to see her outside of my head, if that makes any sense.
If you could list one pet-peeve about your fellow players, what would it be?
It’s a trap! Sorry, wrong movie… I can only think of one thing that really gets on my nerves is when one person is being rude to another. We’re all here for the same thing, to have fun, to enjoy writing and what not. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.
Do you feel there is any disconnect between you and other players based on geographical location?
Not really, we are always chatting behind the scenes, whether in our group chat or on a Skype video chat. It wasn’t just the other day when Commander Kaiser showed me around his garden, or a while back when a few of us had a girls night. Yes, there is distance between all of us, but I don’t believe there is any disconnect between us.
If you could name your own ship, what would you name it and why?
USS Judgment, it was an idea a friend and I had way before the 2009 reboot. Gladiator class, purely meant for combat. We had all the specs worked out, everything from how it worked, what made it tick, how things functioned together, how everything was compensated for. It was awesome, I need to get a hold of him and see if he still has that notebook, I would love to look it over again. The name came from the idea that it would serve as sort of a peacekeeper, enforcer of the law kind of thing.
What is in your FedSpace future, for yourself and for your character?
Well for my character, I really like where she is at right now and I don’t really plan on moving her anytime soon. I love the Intrepid and the crew, we are a very close group. I love having the CTO position, and I’m hoping to keep it for as long as I can, or until they get tired of me, then I might move on, one day…maybe. As for myself, maybe when things calm down in my life I would like to try my hand at being a GM, I think it would be a lot of fun and something I would enjoy doing.
If there was one thing you would want everyone to know about you, what would that be?
That I’m willing to help out anyone, talk to anyone, be your friend or just be there if you need someone.
