This month we get to learn more about Jordan, the player behind Lieutenant Jordan Donovan, Chief of Security aboard the USS Ticonderoga, CA-1471.
Age, Sex, Location?
23, Male, Lexington, VA
When did you first join FedSpace?
What brought you to FedSpace?
My brother was a member and showed it to me when I was in high school.
Tell me a little about the process of developing your character.
Well, I based him generally on me. But that was just a start! From there I chose many aspects to enhance and exagerate to make him more interesting and dramatic. I also just made some stuff up to make him more fun. There’s a reason I’m a real person and not a work of friction, I wouldn’t be very fun to read about. Hehe.
Do you think it is easier or more difficult to play someone based on yourself?
I have found it was easier to base my main character off of myself. In situations I can think how would I react, and then I just apply the differences between myself and my PC to determine a course of action, with a little bit of flair for the dramatic thrown in.
So far, what is your favourite part about being a member of FedSpace?
It’s fun! I really like playing with people who are passionate and interested in the same things I am. I have also met several players and really enjoyed making new friends who I would have otherwise never met.
If you were president for a day, what would you change?
I would develop a feedback and performance review system for players in leadership positions. Leading isn’t easy, even in a game, so given adequate feedback and development opportunities is crucial to be a success. As it is, we just kinda hope our leaders know or learn fast!
What makes a good Ship/Station?
From my experience, it’s a combination of easy going and fun loving players willing to work together to make some great stories. MSN messenger usually helps a lot too.
What do you spend your time outside of FedSpace doing?
I try to travel around the east coast a fair bit to visit friends and loved ones. I am also a US Marine in the reserves, recently activated, and deploying to Okinawa in October.
What is your favourite Star Trek series?
Deep Space Nine. I felt it wasn’t afraid to touch on the darker elements and drama, which made it easier for me to make a deeper connection to the characters.
Do you have a favourite line or phrase from either a show or movie?
I don’t have a single favorite, but O’Brien and Garak both had several very good lines.
Do you have a favourite character from the shows and why?
Unsurprisingly it would be either O’Brien or Garak.
What piece of Star Trek Technology would you most like to see today?
Replicator. It would solve soooo many of the world’s problems.
What was it about Star Trek that made you fall in love with the show?
I liked the overall values of Starfleet and The Federation. I also liked the prospect that one day earth will be able to unite, and then do so again with other races across the galaxy.
What FedSpace player would you most like to meet in real life?
Rose, who plays Pickern. She makes my department look awesome, and is very fun to chat with.
What FedSpace character would you most like to meet in real life?
My own! It would be intersting to meet my own creation come to life. Also really creepy…
If you could list one pet-peeve about your fellow players, what would it be?
I would include myself in this pet peeve. It is being unable to accurately gague how much we are able or willingly to commit to FS commitments. It can be a big bummer to get in a position to feel ‘let down’ by someone else, or to be the one doing the ‘letting down’.
Do you feel there is any disconnect between you and other players based on geographical location?
Not at all. I’ve met one player from the UK already, and three from here in the US on the eastern seaboard. I plan to meet as many more as I can. Hopefully I can meet some more players before Perry/Grayson/Torkav gets to, as he really hates it that I’ve already done so once!
What is in your FedSpace future, for yourself and for your character?
I am going to have to cope with taking almost a month-long LOA in the middle of an away mission while I get settled in Okinawa. My character is going to continue to deal with personal relationship conflicts with his crew mates, a tenuous relationship with his FO, and a downright disdain for his CO. See what I said about Drama? Also, he may even become a father…
If there was one thing you would want everyone to know about you, what would that be?
I don’t mean to sound so impersonal, but I really do enjoy chatting about FS mostly. My own life is what I use FS as a break from sometimes (even though I use it for inspiration), so don’t get offended if it seems that I always like to ‘talk shop’.
