== Welcome to your holodeck, Cadet Baldwin

Please read the following information carefully, because it has a fair amount of important information for you.  If you have any questions or difficulties at any time, please contact one of the following people for assistance.  We’d be glad to help you out.

Commander Jasal
Commander Shanth
Captain Allen

Remember, during your time at Academy, people have responsibilities such as school, jobs, and family, as well as maintaining our site. There are times when we may have to wait longer than we’d like for a reply to a post or a question. Patience and treating each other with respect and dignity are two things that are absolutely required of all members.

On the flip side, the Constitution states that players need to post at least twice a week.  If you find you are unable to keep up due to something coming up in real-life responsibilities, or you’re just going to be on holiday, please let one of the Admins know.  You can be granted a leave of absence for the length of time you think you’ll be away.  If you don’t let us know and you suddenly disappear, this could end up with you being considered AWOL and eventually removed from the active cadet roster.

Now… with all of that said, let’s get to your character’s bio!

Please begin by posting your bio using the template below. Once posted, your bio will be reviewed by an Evaluations representative. They will post comments for you and suggest any adjustments your bio might require.  Once they approve your bio, you will be assigned an instructor and your adventure will begin!

Federation Space is a written RPG. With that said, we ask that you try to pay attention to spelling and grammar in your posts.  Posts properly formatted are easier and more enjoyable for everyone to read. I strongly recommend you run your bio and any posts you make through a spell check before posting them.

Next are a few resources that can help you as you write your bio:

Be sure to check out playable races.

Our character development page is a great resource to help you fill out your bio form.

One last thing, please take time to read and understand our site canon page.  This will help you understand what 'Trek' related information is included on our site.

Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!  And as always - have fun!

RE: HD01 - Security Cadet Ava Baldwin - Ava Baldwin - 11-07-2025

== I do have a question, so I'll put it here whilst I'm finishing off and double checking Ava Baldwin bio.

I am a returning player for the third or fourth time over a number of years. I left back in May 25(?) because of some real life issues. On previous time of returning I was offered the "short version" (not sure what it was called) of Academy training. Is that still on offer for returning players? ==

Mother: Tofel, widowed 2396, lived in San Francisco from 2375. Became part of Vulcan diplomatic team after her husbands’ death. Ava lived with her parents till 2394 and with her mother 2400 to 2405 until Ava graduated from Star Fleet Academy and was assigned.
Pets: Nil
Best Friend: Elizabeth (Beth) Beckett, they met at University

Personal History:
2373: Ava’s parents, Kiross and Tofel were married in a very traditional ceremony, on Vulcan, the year of a defining moment in Earth history, the battle of sector 001. The wedding was organized by Tofel‘s mother Shiftel. The Wedding was not in the style Tofel nor Kiross wanted. It caused a great deal of friction between Tofel and her mother.

Kiross, had been noted by many in the Vulcan establishment as a promising diplomat and for that reason he was offered a post at the Vulcan Embassy to the United Federation of Planets (UFP) on Earth. It would be difficult for non-humans on earth as there was a moderate but growing distrust of Aliens rising after the battles with the Borg particularly Wolf 359 where the Federation suffered a devastating defeat in 2367, in which 11, 000 lives were lost. Kiross and Tofel were up to the challenge and accepted the move, if only to get away from Tofel’s mother and her strict, snobbish, haughty Vulcan attitude. But, of course, Kiross and Tofel would never admit to that publicly.
Three years later, 2376 a daughter was born, and Tofel named her Viverrin after her great, great grandmother, who was recognized on Vulcan as a champion of female entitlements and prerogatives, a cultural reformer and renowned debater with excellent logic and character and someone Shiftel loathed.

2383: Kiross and Tofel after living 10 years among humans made a deliberate choice for Viverrin, aged 7, to have an education similar to her human counterparts. This was decided because of the aftermath of the Borg invasion which caused some Federation members to secede from the Federation. Kiross, Tofel and Viverrin also chose to take on human names to help with their integration in earth and as some small to involve themselves into human society. This move was frowned upon by the Vulcan ambassador of that time, but may other Vulcan friends found it brave, a bold move of solidarity with humanity.

Kiross, Tofel and Viverrin became the Baldwin family. Baldwin was chosen as a family name because it meant “Brave or noble friend” which they saw was their purpose on earth to be brave and noble friends of humanity and the Federation. Viverrin was named Ava, meaning ‘life or living one’. The reactions were varied. Some Vulcans disapproved others where ambivalent but it did endear the Baldwins to many humans, others saw it as a pretense. The Baldwins’ still kept their Vulcan identity, home schooling their daughter in the way of Vulcan logic.

Ava grew and developed as an example of the combination of Vulcan logical and emotion in a ‘Vulcan-Human being.’ Excelling in her studies, her logic and her moral reasoning was exemplary.

2396: But there came a time in her life that brought everything undone. Ava was at university studying for a doctorate in Literature and History. After her 20th earth birthday, her father Kiross Baldwin came to visit Ava at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, where she was taking an extension course in Australian History and Literature toward her doctorate.

Sensationalized news reports of incidents of violence towards diplomatic staff, circulated at that time. The year before, a human Ambassador had been assassinated and Ambassador T’loko was missing from his ship, presumed kidnapped. There were minor incidents of violence towards diplomatic staff in Canberra, and in other places.

This was to be a hopeful beginning of a time of exploration for the Federation, Pioneer Outpost was to be established beyond Cardassian territory.

Ava was at the transport station in the city centre saying goodbye to her beloved father, when phaser fire erupted. People were screaming in fear and running for cover. Her father grabbed Ava rapping her in his arms for protection.

Kiross slumped to the ground still holding his daughter, and in a whisper, bearing his last breath, he said in Vulcan. “I am so proud and honoured to be your father, I love you, tell your mother...r…r….” He died still holding his daughter. Killed by a stray phaser shot to the back the head.

That event marked Ava for life. The police said it was a random act, and Kiross was ‘collateral damage.’ The police where correct. Jack Kelly was arrested, charge and convicted. There was no conspiracy abroad or in Australia. Kiross was a victim of a violent act that over flowed into the public arena.

Ava, never believed the police. She still to this day has the ‘feeling’ that the Cardassians were involved with her father’s murder, even though there was no forthcoming evidence to indicate any link.

Tofel arrived that afternoon. Ava described what happened and her father’s last words to the both of them. “It was illogic, senseless, unbelievable,” Ava told her mother, as if she had lost her soul in that very moment. Tofel wanted Ava to return to San Francisco with her but Ava refused, citing the need to finish her special studies, before she could return.

Shocked to the core of her logical existence, her emotions ran wild. Soon after, she left university. Ava was now on a quest to find her father’s true killer. She became isolated and obsessive. Four long year she chased the phantom of her father’s true killer and she gradually lost contact with her mother. Ava never came close to finding the phantom she searched after. If she had she would have killed that person on the spot.

2400: For three years Tofel, using her diplomatic connections, searched for her lost daughter, till her search came to an end. Ava was in Melbourne Australia, in hospital and immediately Tofel went to Australia to bring her daughter home. Harsh, but true words would be the end of those dark years.

A few months into the 25th century Ava’s mother arrived at Ava’s place of abode, if you could call it that. Tofel hardly recognized Ava, released from hospital that day, looking thin and gaunt, yet it was her. She embraced her daughter expressing how concerned she had been, stating her deep affection for Ava and how distressed she was, not knowing, not having any contact for years. As the conversation progressed inside Ava’s hovel, Tofel stated “I have come to persuade, no demand that you to come home to San Francisco and live with me.!”

Ava automatically refused, point blank, “Don’t you see, mother, it was the Cardassian who murdered Father,” and she began to explain her lie of how close she was to discovering her father’s killer. Ava’s state of mind was perplexing to her mother, but she saw right through her daughter's deception.

Tofel spoke out assertively with the truth she saw before her, “Ava! You would LIE to your mother? Viverrin! VIVERRIN!... What are you doing to yourself? Your father and I never wanted this for you. You have no logic, YOU CHASE GHOSTS! THERE IS NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION TO BE LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE BECOME!”

Tafel’s’ voice mellowed with compassion, realizing her rising anger, “You have thrown away everything your father and I have taught you, chasing someone that does not exist! He would not be proud of you now. And neither am I!” Again, Tafel’s distress at her daughter’s current condition aroused her strong assertive side. “THIS HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH. YOU NEED LOGIC, VIVERRIN! GAIN SOME DISCIPLINE! PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE!! You need to come home.”

There was a long silence between the two. “Come home with me, I will help you.” Tofel pleaded.

Ava was rattle and shaken, that was the only time her mother had ever raised her voice in anger to Ava. It caused the grip of her ugly conspiracy filled thinking to crack open.

“I’ll … think about it,” was Ava’s non-committal reply.

Tofel left without her daughter and with no surety that she would ever see her again. She had failed and she feared that Viverrin would disappear again.

Ava did not go home immediately, but over a month Ava searched for the discipline her mother had reminded and demanded of her. She began to make tentative plans aiming toward the only two organization she knew that demanded discipline. At the end of the month, she returned home to live with her mother and resume her studies at university. This was the first step of Ava’s plan. It was a struggle for both of them.

After 2 years Ava competed her doctorate. She also regained her Vulcan logic through constant training, and was making excellent progress through counseling. Ava had found discipline again, but that was not the end of her plan. Now Dr Ava Baldwin, she had gained some solid mental stability and enlisted for another 4 years of discipline training at Star Fleet Academy, San Francisco. She did not immediately receive entry and had to undergo rigorous psychological testing before being accepted.

2405: Ava, at age 29, graduated fifth in her class. Her regeneration was complete.
