Jez entered the Security Complex, it was buzzing with activity, as the Security Department began preparing for Aquila's latest mission. She wasn’t sure how she felt about another mission, as it posed many questions, with the mysterious goings on aboard the Cardassian ship could they be heading into another Cardassian mystery, she was lucky last time in that she only injured her leg. What would this latest mission bring?

Jez looked around and saw that she was the highest ranking officer in the Security Complex at the moment she figured that she should get Security and the ship ready for their mission until Commander Kurasa arrived and briefed them about their mission.

Jez spotted Sovak, he looked to be annoyed, but Sovak was a Vulcan so being annoyed wasn’t possible as annoyed indicated an emotional state Chances were that Sovak was working on some intellectual puzzle.

“Sovak, we need a full Security Scan of the ship, I suspect that we will be departing soon and we want to be ready.” Said Jez, her tone confident. Sovak raised a eyebrow “Indeed, Where is Commander Kurasa? “ said Sovak. “Well Logic would dictate that she is in a briefing with the Captain and will be here as soon as possible. Until then we need to make sure that we would carry on as if she was here.” Replied Jez.

Jez was a bit frustrated she was Sovak’s superior officer, but he acted like he was above her somehow. She wasn’t sure if it was that she was a female or that she was young or some weird combination of the two, but Sovak did what he was ordered.

“Listen up people, we need to be ready.” Said Jez.

Jez and the Security department worked feverishly at getting ready for the upcoming mission. Jez didn’t need her telepathy to see that the entire crew seemed to have a desire to make sure that unlike the last mission this one would be a complete success.

However , Jez took everything in stride. She was growing restless, she couldn’t wait for Commander Kurasa to arrive and brief them on the mission. Jez was worried about the Commander, she had been keeping to herself. Jez hoped to spend some time with the Commander on this recent shorleave, Jez was positive that the Commander would enjoy the Mardi Gras adventure on the Holodeck, but Kurasa was nowhere to be seen.

Having finished with the meeting of the Command team Shione checked her Padd and determined that Jez was indeed in Security.

As she approached the door she patted the small bundle in her pocket and strode through

"Hello all, I supposed you missed me ," she added jovially.
She had been trying to add some warmth to her repertoire and hoped that comment hadn't fallen flat, but she did get some grins and a wink from her #1.

Looking around she spotted her new officer and paused, speaking to all present

"The Captain and First Officer were both very pleased with this departments actions before during and after the last mission and in recognition I am extending an extra leave day when we arrive. You will need to coordinate but I feel you all have earned it. In addition, the Captain gave me another new shiny bauble as apparently I accomplished something as did another of our own," and she drew the small case from her pocket and continued speaking as she opened it, "And that would be our newest Lieutenant Junior Grade Jez Mala."

Extending the small case with her left she proffered a hand shake. "Congratulations Lieutenant." There were smiles, nods and attaboys directed at Jez. "Well done"

Jez was busy reading a status report when she heard her name, she looked up to see Commander Kurasa. The Commander seemed chipper. Jez smiled

Commander Kurasa.

Jez felt a rush of pride, she couldn’t believe it , she got promoted. She wasn’t expecting this, she got a medal and a promotion,

Commander Kurasa extended the small case with her left and she proffered a hand shake. "Congratulations Lieutenant." There were smiles, nods and attaboys directed at Jez. "Well done"

Jez pleasantly accepted the Commanders hand, she was taken aback, she had no idea that she was even up for a promotion, “Oh thank you Commander, I appreciate that very much. I’m Honored.” Said Jez, her voice filled with surprise. “Commander, we're doing our permission checks.” Said Jez, her voice filled with confidence.

Jez was still processing the news of her promotion, she felt honored that her hard work had been recognized. She couldn’t wait to write Teddy Bear and tell him all about it. As the other officers congratulated her, she felt a sense of pride.

The Officers continued getting ready for their mission, running security scans, reviewing Security protocols, visually confirming weapons inventory, as sometimes computers can miss things, as computers are only as good as the people who programmed them.

“ Congratulations Lieutenant Mala.” Said Sovak, his tone emotionless and dry.

Jez looked at Sovak and smiled, she had never heard him say anything complimentary to her ever. “Thank you, Sovak, I appreciate that,” Said Jez.

The Security Complex was a hive of activity at any given moment, but at the start of a mission it was even busier. Jez had to admit she would rather be fighting the bad guys than doing system checks.

"Come on People step lively" Said Jez, he voice confident.

Jez felt a surge of pride, she began checking the internal Security sensors to make sure that they were functioning properly. She then turned to Sovak and said, "I'll be on the Bridge your in charge until I return." Sovak looked at Jez and in a simple, respectful tone. Said "Aye Lieutenant."

[Kurasa to Mala. Lieutenant please assemble 4 NCO's along with yourself and assure that your dress uniforms are ready for an official diplomatic greeting. As of this moment I do not have a specific time, but I will give you all possible notice.

We are told to expect a VIP arrival shortly after reaching our destination. That's all I have for now, Kurasa out,]

Once the message was open, the video almost instantly started to play. Her uniform was mostly on, with her tunic draped over her shoulders.

[Commander allow me to introduce to you Project Skynet. (The coding for the Trajan horse started to appear next to Beno.) This is a Trojan horse virus that stays inactive unless first accessed by an unauthorized source. Once the virus is introduced into a foreign system it starts to work on their communications, and then their sensors. Soon it spreads into their sensors essentially shutting them down.

Its an adaptive algorithm that adjusts to its environment, and attacks that might come its way. In its final stage a rolling blackout of all major systems, this would be our exit strategy. Once we are safely off the planet, the program slowly starts to shut down. An hour later the entire virus disappears from their systems, and their life can continue like before just without us.

Normally I like to ask when did Noah build the Ark? In this case. (Her facial expressions changed to emphasize a point.) Dinner out is more appropriate, a good dinner will clear everything up...] The message ended there.

Jez wasn’t sure who she should chose, if they were going to be dealing with VIP’s she had to make sure that the NCO’s she picked were not just familiar with dealing with VIP’s, but that they were of the highest quality, in other words the best that StarFleet and the Federation had to offer.Including herself Jez decided on decided on Matthew Davis, Sovak, Slad and Samantha Reagan, but the more she thought about it the more she was convinced that T'Kol would be a great addition to the team, her years in Starf;eet and that fact that she was a Vulcan and the daughter of a Diplomat her skills would be rather valuable.

Once the holoprogram finished Jez presented her choices for honor guard to Commander Kurasa. “Commander, with you approval I have chosen Matthew Davis, Sovak, Slad and Samantha Reagan, as well as myself, but I would like to suggest that we included Chief T”Kol, she is the daughter of a Diplomat and given her years of serving in Starfleet, I feel she would be invaluable .” Said Jez with a mixture of confidence.

Jez then turned to Commander Velual and said, “Commander for what it’s worth, there is debate among scholars that it took Noah between forty and seventy years to complete the Ark, finishing it approximately 2348 B.C. in the old Terran Calendar.” Said Jez, her tone was matter of fact.

==After being dismissed from the Bridge==

Coming down from the Bridge, there was going to be some explaining to do. There just wasn't enough time for explaining on the Bridge, nor was it the place. While she was looking at the message for the first time on the outside, something that she needed to do more often. Sometimes what makes sense when you are saying it, wont a few days later and you are seeing it from an outside view.

“Commander for what it’s worth, there is debate among scholars that it took Noah between forty and seventy years to complete the Ark, finishing it approximately 2348 B.C. in the old Terran Calendar.” Said Jez, her tone was matter of fact.

Beno was very impressed by her knowledge, and had a smile while listening. "As true as that is, the purpose of the question was for authentication. On the off chance something happens and there is no way to show who I am, and it isn't an answer that most people would come up with." The other code in message wasn't that obvious.

"Also if this virus is used and activated, if anything were to go wrong with it Dinner out shuts it down and reverses everything done. The virus is intended as a non destructive distraction that affords us the time to leave, in and out with no collateral damage and at worst a very small amount." Naturally it didn't mean anything unless it was given the green light, Commander Kurasa had the final say if it gets used.

Jez was a bit surprised when Commander Velaul said, "As true as that is, the purpose of the question was for authentication. Jez was impressed with the level of complexity of the virus, Jez would love to meet the designer of the virus. Jez hoped that the virus didn’t affect anything related to health care or children.

“Commander Velaul, should we have backup generators and trauma teams ready just in case the virus has some unexpected consequences? The reason I ask this is because on Earth in the 1940’s during World War -Two the Germans kept their munitions near hospitals as they knew the allies wouldn’t risk bombing so close to a Hospital. What if the recipients of this virus have the same mindset.” Stated Jez her tone full of concern and curiosity.

While listening to Jez she was showing herself as an impressive historian, even if the example wasn't the best her point was. Even the best of plans have their flaws, and with them come unintended consequences. She didn't want to cause harm to the population, and if it goes wrong who knows what could happen.

"Very impressive." Beno started. "War always has a way of bringing out the worst in people, they even disguised battle ships as hospital ships. What we are describing is actually using humanity as a weapon, in Russia things were even worse." This wasn't really the time for a history lesson, there was something else that Beno never took into account.

"As a Scientist we are more obsessed with what we can or can not accomplish, sometimes its best if we take a step back and wonder if we should." Beno paused for a second. "Now even with that said you bring up some interesting points, especially about why we shouldn't. Examples could have been better, but I get your point. Now what I would like is to hear if this was your decision what would you do, and why." It was interesting to hear what a younger officer had to say on the subject. It would provide a fresh prospective on the subject, and give her a glimpse into the future.

Jez was a bit surprised by Commander Velaul’s question when the Commander said, "Now even with that said you bring up some interesting points, especially about why we shouldn't. Examples could have been better, but I get your point. Now what I would like is to hear if this was your decision, what would you do, and why."

Jez tilted her head slightly, knowing that Commander Kurasa told her to assemble an honor guard for a V.I.P. Chances were they were on either a Diplomatic mission or a Humanitarian mission “Well Commander, without knowing the exact nature of our current mission anything I would say would be speculation at best, but knowing we are Star Fleet, we are probably rendering humanitarian aide or acting in a peacekeeping capacity either way our first priority should be to ensure that safety of civilians, especially the children and the elderly. However, if we are acting in a peacekeeping capacity we must maintain the peace, but also not anger any third parties who may object to us being there.” Stated Jex her tone thoughtful.

“However Commander, My suggestions still stand, we should have trauma teams and back up generators ready just in case the virus has some unexpected consequences.” Added Jez.

Another valid point was the fact they had no idea the nature of their meeting, as she shut down the simulation Beno made the choice they were not going through with it. There might be a something that they could not control, and that would go against the prime directive in this case.

"I think you might be right about those generators, but I would think about a couple of Engineers as well considering the people we might be dealing with. Right now lets play it cool, I am sure the Commander has some incredible security firewalls in place" Kurasa was professional knowing every angle there could be, right now anything Beno might add would hinder anything in place.

"One thing to also keep in mind is we might not be able to give them to the people here, they are a non Federation planet and what they say goes." Beno was sure Jez was aware on how to conduct herself with the Non Federation Planets. Even giving them some aide while going against their wishes could lead to trouble, and that's the last thing they wanted.

Jez stood waiting for Commander Velaul to respond, she was a bit perplexed when she said, "I think you might be right about those generators, but I would think about a couple of Engineers as well considering the people we might be dealing with. Right now lets play it cool, I am sure the Commander has some incredible security firewalls in place" Kurasa was professional, knowing every angle there could be, right now anything Beno might add would hinder anything in place.

"One thing to also keep in mind is we might not be able to give them to the people here, they are a non Federation planet and what they say goes." Said Beno.

Jez’s parents were Archaeologists and she was very familiar with the Prime Directive. She was also familiar with the Federation Medical Assistant Program, The Medical Assistant Program was a a type of assistance program provided by the Federation specializing in the distribution of medical supplies in order to develop and strengthen relations with non-Federation worlds located in remote regions of space. She recalled that the USS Enterprise visited the planet Dramia in 2270 as part of the medical assistance program. She was also familiar with what the Medical Assist program covered it covered many things, such as Monitors and scanners
,Surgical Instruments,Tissue regeneration, Tissue applications, Cardiovascular applications, Neurological applications, Respiratory applications, Nanotechnology, Organ replacements, Facilities and Medical texts Many of those items required power.

Jez sensed that Commander Velual needed a alternative, that she wanted to help this world, so Jez chose her next words carefully and emphasized certain words hoping that the Commander would pick up on what she was saying.

“ Commander Velaul , with all due respect, I know you are familiar with the Federation Medical Assistant Program. I feel foolish for reminding you” Said Jez hope she was helping the Commander save face. “ However, The Federation Medical Assist Program does allow The Federation to supply Non-Federation worlds with medical supplies such as, such as Monitors and scanners, Surgical Instruments, Tissue regeneration, Tissue applications, Cardiovascular applications, Neurological applications, Respiratory applications, Nanotechnology, Organ replacements, Facilities and Medical texts and many of those devices would require a POWER SUPPLY. Of course that’s IF, the people of those worlds requested it and IF they did request it and The Federation refused how would the Federation look to the Galactic Community at large if the Federation ignored such requests?” Said Jez, her tone neutral, but direct.

Beno had an amused smile again, as both were talking about the same thing. "I think we have a misfire in communication, Star Fleet won't object to us giving them aide. What I am saying is they might refuse help, if they do we can't help." Beno was attempting to find a different way to say it.

"If we were to offer the help with nothing but the best of intentions, if it is refused the same thing turnes into something imposed on another." The problem with that is it goes from an act of compassion to an imposition, and that can lead to acts of violence.

Mala's Comm badge chirped

[Kurasa to Mala Please have 4 phasers and my away team pack sent up to Transporter room one immediately.

Then report personally to the bridge and take the security post there during the away team. The people of this planet have some unique issues and abilities and I want you to stay sharp and back up Commander Velaul while we are down there.

They could be unpredictable so I want you to be focused in case they try something unusual. Kurasa over]

Jez stood listening to Commander Velaul as the Commander presented a very interesting notion that Jez hadn’t fully considered, "I think we have a misfire in communication, Star Fleet won't object to us giving them aide. What I am saying is they might refuse help, if they do we can't help." Beno appeared to say it in a different way.

"If we were to offer the help with nothing but the best of intentions, if it is refused the same thing turns into something imposed on another." The problem with that is it goes from an act of compassion to an imposition, and that can lead to acts of violence.” Added Beno.

Hmmmm.. I never thought of it from that perspective.

As Jez pondered the conversation she was having with the First Officer, Suddenly her combadge activated pulling her out of her thoughts.

Kurasa over].

Jez looked at Sovak and with a firm, but respectful tone Ordered him to Select 4 Phasers and Commander Kurasa’s Away Team Pack and take them to the Transporter room.

Sovack nodded and began to gather the specified equipment

Jez tapped her combadge, [ Aye Commander, right away.]

Jez then turned and started heading towards the Bridge.
