Of all the people in Engineering, one was moving around and barking order. She was an Ensign, but no rank visible on her dirty coveralls. Her dark hair was tied back in a ponytail, but she sounded like a drill instructor with new recruits. It was working though, because people responded to the sound of authority. She hadn't seen anyone with higher rank yet and there were orders to get the ship moving.

Taking a moment to stare at the large master display, she was nodding in confidence that she could at least promise they would make it out of the dock alive. The numbers were actually looking surprisingly good for a ship of this age. A smile finally found its way onto her dirt smudged face as she patted the edge of the console with a hand and said, "I think we're going to get along just fine, old girl."

Crossing the floor towards where hir second was standing Keir picked up a couple of the standard hand cleansing cloths and passed them to hir #2. Keir smiled hearing the comment the Ensign made when checking the master display

"It certainly looks like you've been working hard, but take a moment and clean some of that off your hands. Before you say anything let me give you the lowdown on how I deal with my team. Between us and especially when it's busy we keep the protocols to a minimum. I can see;" Keir added while checking the board; "that you have been busy and quite productive, well-done Ensign. So, I'm gonna let you and the team know what's up."

Raising hir voice "Listen up everyone I am Lieutenant Commander Keir77 assigned here as Chief; we have been given a new mission and will arrive in just under an hour, so our new CO asked us to make sure, at least as much as we can that we will be mission ready when we arrive. I can see that you have all been busy and I appreciate that. When I am on duty here, addressing me as Chief is fine.
Keep it up and let's see if we can give the Captain that assurance before we come out of warp, so back to work."

With the Ensign following Keir assessed the board and saw that the progress done was impressive. "Looking good Ensign, looks like the old girl still has something left hmmn?"
Leaning over the boards the two engineers assessed remaining priorities and proceeded to get to work . Both officers were confident that they would have good news for the CO by the time they arrived.

Raven took the offered wipes and got most of the dirt off her hands, but was still oblivious to what was on her face. She smiled at her boss and agreed, "She's an old girl, but we have lots to work with here. Lots of people complain about these outdated systems, but what they forget is that these older systems had higher tolerance margins built into the designs. When the targ hits the impeller, you can push these things into the red line more than the salesman advertised. They made pretty good smuggling and blockade busters back in the day. I won't lie, there are some areas of shady patchwork here and there, but I'm on it."

She patted Keir on the shoulder with a surprisingly strong feeling hand and gave a wink, "Don't worry, we'll be ready to launch long before that deadline. Hell, they could pull out of port right now and I can get us there. You've got no worries yet. I'll be sure to let you know if things get interesting though."

[Ameen to Commander Keir.] There was a short pause. [Status report from Engineering, please. Are primary systems, main power, and the warp drive green for immediate departure to Trill? What's your assessment of our ability to maintain Warp Nine?]

After going over all the main engineering systems both Keir and Singer agreed the ship was as ready as it could be

"Keir to Bridge, Engineering is ready for mission start."

As the ship went to warp, Raven tilted her head and grinned as she listened to the ship. With a wink, she said to Keir, "See, I told you she would fly true."

Then, for the benefit of the Bridge, she spoke up, "Smooth and steady at Warp Nine, Captain. I'll keep my eye on her, but I don't expect the old girl will give us any trouble."

Once the ship arrived at Trill, Raven took advantage of the time to give the systems a good look over. She wanted to see how close the real numbers matched her projections for running the engines that hard for that long. There was no reason not to have every confidence in the ship, but she liked being sure. If things always ran like they should, she wouldn't have much of a job. With time to burn, she was able to look at quite a great deal of data and even run a few short diagnostics as well.

All systems are good and green. As was to be expected, the ship and her engines were a bit out-of-date compared to the rest of the in-service vessels, but there were no red (or orange) flags in regards to her ability to go from Point A to Points B & C.
