<<<, Ready Room<<
Returning from the Ready Room Beno was determined to prevent this war, there was nothing good that can come from it. As Beno was coming out, the first person that she wanted to talk to was Jez. She had an amazing idea, and she should explore it. "Lieutenant Jez I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, I think that tapping into the shuttles systems might yield some results, at least give us a better idea what we are facing."
Beno looked up at the screen and noticed he was shrinking the search area, the smaller the better. They didn't have much time to look for answers, and when it expires it will go from bad to worse. "Lieutenant Jez you are pretty perceptive, our original Ambassador is suspected of such actions. Suspected of being involved with a major crime family, they no doubt are going to attempt tip the scales in their favor. Perhaps with an offer that she can not refuse." It was a small joke based on the circumstances, now it was getting close to dealing with the mob. I would like you to handle a class three probe to the shuttle if your first approach doesn't work, it can give us what the shuttle would be capable of."
She also wanted a backup plan for if the first one didn't work. "If we are going to be on Shore Leave, we might want to look like we are on it. "Lieutenant Khasim I think it might be time to send out the Armadillo, its an off road vehicle that is also a lot of fun to be in." It was a shame that Beno couldn't just leave the Bridge and go, but sometimes those were the breaks. Also we have exactly twenty four hours to figure out what happened, and I need to know everything you do no matter how small." At this point Beno wasn't sure what the best course of action was, but they were getting closer.

Jez cringed slightly when Commander Velaul said, "Lieutenant Jez I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, I think that tapping into the shuttle’s systems might yield some results, at least give us a better idea of what we are facing."
Jez had been trying desperately to connect to the shuttle's systems, but the shuttle's power was so low that she couldn’t connect, she made several attempts, but nothing seemed to be working. The way Jez saw it they had a few options. The Aquila could try a power transfer to the shuttle, but that would give the Aquila’s position away, thus making them an easy target. They could send a small two or three man away team to investigate the shuttle crash site, and retrive the shuttles logs, and investigate the area to possibly identify the person or persons who took the communications array.
Jez’s eyes went wide when Commander Velaul said, "Lieutenant Jez you are pretty perceptive, our original Ambassador is suspected of such actions. Suspected of being involved with a major crime family, they no doubt are going to attempt to tip the scales in their favor. Perhaps with an offer that she can not refuse." It was a small joke based on the circumstances, now it was getting close to dealing with the mob. I would like you to handle a class three probe to the shuttle if your first approach doesn't work, it can give us what the shuttle would be capable of."
The idea of a woman leading a coup d’etat in this situation reminded Jez of Empress Dowager Cixi, the most important woman in Chinese history. She ruled China for decades and brought a medieval empire into the modern age. At the age of sixteen, in a nationwide selection for royal consorts, Cixi was chosen as one of the emperor's numerous concubines. But the tactics of the Empress included more ruthless measures as well. Historians widely believe that Cixi was responsible for the poisoning of her own son the Emperor in 1875. Likewise, she pushed Prince Gong, the architect of the Self Strengthening Movement into semi-retirement in 1884.
“Forgive me Commander Velaul, I have been trying to connect to the shuttle's systems, but it appears that the shuttle lacks enough power to establish a link with us.I can have a Class Three Probe ready in a few minutes. I would recommend a small two or three person Away= Team to go and investigate the shuttle.” Suggested Jez. “Which would you prefer, Commander.” Added Jez.

There was no reason for Jez to feel bad about things beyond her control, the fact that the ship had little to no power gave Beno something to think about. One of them was why would a shuttle be that low on power? There really wasn't a reason she could think of, other than outside sources.
"Lieutenant there isn't a reason to feel bad, just because we didn't get the results we wanted doesn't mean we didn't get the one we need." Beno thought about it further and it made sense to send out that probe first. "Let's send out that probe first, I want to make sure it's safe to send a shuttle first." There was a chance the environment could drain a power source real fast.

Jez began programming the probe, making sure that all the necessary functions were on board, things like Weather,Topography, Energy output, Jez wasn;t sure what class probe to use. She reviewed the different classes of probes. She tapped away on her station
[ Class 1
Speed - .5c
Range - 200,000 km
Short-range astronomical probe which analyzes EM radiation, interstellar chemistry, and subspace fields.
Class 2
Speed - .65c
Range - 400,000 km
Short-range astronomical probe which analyzes EM radiation, interstellar chemistry, and subspace fields.
Class 3
Speed - .65c
Range - 1,200,000 km
These probes land on planets and return samples, thus providing a detailed on-site analysis of the planet. Crews can also use Class 3 probes to analyze the capabilities of enemy starships. They have 'stealth' capabilities.
Class 4
Speed - .6c
Range - 3,500,000 km
These probes perform close observation of stars and other high-energy phenomena.
Class 5
Speed - Warp 2, .5c
Range - 430 billion km
These probes land on planets and return samples, thus providing a detailed on-site analysis of the planet.
Class 6
Speed - .8c
Range - 430 billion km
Communicator relays and emergency beacons. They cannot attain warp speed (to make it harder to detect them with subspace sensors), but have high sublight velocities. When a Class 6 probe exhausts its fuel supply, it coasts and broadcasts a recovery signal toward Federation Space. The probe's navigational module facilitates recovery and trajectory tracking.
Class 7
Speed - Warp 1.5, .5c
Range - 450 billion km
These probes orbit an inhabited planet for up to three months to collect information about its inhabitants and relay it to the ship. They have 'stealth' capabilities.
Class 8
Speed - Warp 8/9
Range - 12 light years at Warp 8, 6.5 hours at Warp 9.
Long range sensor probes. In crisis situations, they can be used to send a lone passenger on an emergency mission. The range of a class 8 probe depends on its speed. Its long range sensors have a range of 6 light years.
Class 9
Speed - Warp 8/9
Range - 14 days (76 light years) at Warp 8, 12 hours at Warp 9.
Long range sensor probes. In crisis situations, they can be used to send a lone passenger on an emergency mission. The range of a class 9 probe depends on its speed. Its long range sensors have a range of 12 light years. ]
None of them seemed to meet the needs of the mission. After a few minutes she decided to combine the best abilities of the Class three and the class five probe, as well as the analytical ability of the class one probe to detect EM radiation, interstellar chemistry, and subspace fields. Just to cover all the bases.
Once she was satisfied she launched the probe. “Probe launched Commander.” Announced Jez, her tone confident. Jez stood there waiting. She knew it would take a little while for any results to come in.

Samira looked at Coppola. "Interesting deductions, Ensign," she said. "It makes sense; a criminal of any kind wouldn't want to draw attention to his or herself."
With Coppola's suggestion for a search grid and at Mala's indications - the underlying idea that the attackers were prepared, had waited for the shuttle - her suggestion at an away team made Samira furrow her brow.
"That's going to require something where we can't get the attention of the authorities," Samira said. "Logically, if the locals knew of a second away team covertly operating, they'd take offense to the first. However, it's definitely something we can't ignore; I'll talk to Commander Velaul."
But then, she heard Commander Velaul returning. Speak of the devil. Samira stood and listened. Clearly Commander Velaul may have picked up on the conversation, and her suggestion of using a land vehicle while making pretend to be on shore leave made absolute sense. "That's an excellent idea. Pretending to be on shore leave can definitely provide us with a cover. Hopefully the local civilians and authorities won't mind us being down there."
She nodded. "Understood, Commander. I'll need a team to come along...and probably a change of garb to look like we're going on Shore Leave."

Based on the size of its tracks, the vehicle would have had trouble navigating tight city streets, and it would have attracted significant attention if it had tried. Coppola was able to surmise that the vehicle probably had not traveled further than the industrial manufacturing district that served as a sort of buffer between the wasteland on one side and the city of Saule on the other.
== For Mala ==
The Class 3 probe was the strongest choice based on Mala’s needs, particularly for its stealth capability and ability to withstand planetary landing. The probe’s sensor array also had the ability to analyze local atmospheric conditions, allowing it to detect EM radiation and subspace anomalies.
Various satellites and ground-based scanners continued to bombard Aquila, but no sensor beams followed the probe as it journeyed down to the surface. It seemed that the Riani did not detect the probe.
== For All ==
After a few minutes, the probe successfully landed and established a feed to Aquila’s computer. The dark sand of the wasteland shimmered under the light of two of Riani’s moons. As atmospheric sensors came online, the probe reported high levels of toxic chemicals in the surrounding area, such that long-term exposure could cause negative health effects. Fittingly, there were no animals in the probe’s landing area, and only a few brittle plants dusted the sloping hills.
The probe focused its visual array toward the site of the shuttle crash. From this vantage point, it was clear that the shuttle had held up quite well. The forward section of the shuttle had crumpled on impact, but the small, two-person cockpit was intact. There was no sign of the shuttle’s pilot or its passenger.
The odd scorching that the Khasim had noted appeared to have been caused by a particle weapon. The hull plating on the shuttle’s spine had been pried open and the warp engine had been torn out.

Captain Brooks rode the turbolift contemplating the conversation he had with the Ambassador and the news he was given by Commander Velaul of the Federations position in all this.
The doors slid open and Daniel stepped out onto the Bridge and moved around to where Commander Velaul was.
"Situation report number one?" he asked looking at the view screen briefly before back at the Commander.

Beno couldn't be more proud than she was at this minute, they were coming up with brilliant results. She didn't notice at first that the Captain came on the Bridge, when he asked for a situation report. Even if there wasn't much to update, at least there was something.
"Captain what we have so far is proof that the shuttle was attacked, and the Ambassador is missing presumed to be alive. We have been making remarkable progress in looking for where, the search area starts in the industrialized zone on the planet" It was a good place to start considering how big the search area could have been, still it didn't reduce the degree of difficulties.
"We have also been scanned from the planet quite a lot from the planet, different governments I am assuming are competing for the same satellite to scan us. They are busy competing with each other to scan us that they are providing us with extra security as a result, the probe we sent went un noticed as well.
There was a sudden communication from the surface. [Commander Kurasa to the bridge.

Hearing the message, Beno wanted to be down there to figure things out more. There were lots of answers down there, they just needed to find them. "Captain with your permission I would like permission to join the away team." At this point if there was anything that Daniel needed to tell her he would.

Jez stood waiting for the probes' telemetry, hoping that they would finally get some answer to this most intriguing mystery, she had the same feeling as she got when her and her parents would uncover an unexpected room or hyphen library in an ancient palace, especially where such rooms were never to be expected.
Jez couldn’t help but wonder how this was going to play out. Was the Aquila witnessing a possible Civil war one nation state trying to dominate the rest of the planet?
Jez reviewed the probe's flight path and chose what she thought would provide the best success. She was glad she chose to go with a slightly modified class 3 Probe, the Class 3 probe was the strongest choice based on Mala’s needs, particularly for its stealth capability and ability to withstand planetary landing. Waiting for the results of the scan, Cologero felt satisfied with the results coming it. It appeared like other people felt the same way, it was great that Khasim was one of them. "Interesting deductions, Ensign," she said. "It makes sense; a criminal of any kind wouldn't want to draw attention to his or herself." Sometimes thinking like a criminal to figure out what they might do next. With the design of the wheels it also told him that this wasn't the first time something like this happened.
"That's going to require something where we can't get the attention of the authorities," Samira said. "Logically, if the locals knew of a second away team covertly operating, they'd take offense to the first. However, it's definitely something we can't ignore; I'll talk to Commander Velaul."
Khasim had some logical points, there was something that she didn't take into account. "Yes Lieutenant those would be correct there are a couple of factors to take into account. One of them is the Industrial Zones in a lot of worlds have a higher crime rate than others. Also there is a chance they found a corrupt Authority that would look the other way." It happens sometimes, or there were jurisdictional issues that causes more issues.
As Commander Velaul came back, it sounded like a fun time on the planet. If he could drive that vehicle, he would go fast and probably try a few stunts. The suggestion of having them dressed in civilian clothing came across, it was a great idea for them to do it.
"Sirs." Cologero stated while attempting to narrow down the field further. "It was common practice for Military Officers to dress in civilian clothing in unfriendly areas to prevent being killed, I am sure a time like this qualifies." It was just a suggestion for them, what they did with it was up to them.

Hearing the two Officers talk about dressing in civilian clothes had some merit, it also came in with the same built in problem. If there was going to be a target on her back when she gets there, it won't matter how Beno was going to be dressed.
"Captain both Uniform and Civilian clothing both have the upsides and down, in Civilian clothes it could look like a diplomatic meeting and less military. It might also make our approach a softer one as well, a new Diplomat might also attract some attention from whomever took the last Diplomat. I would like to give it a try. " The final word was his, if he decided to go one way or the other.

Jez waited for her relief to arrive, she was relieved by Crewman Slad. “Keep a transporter lock on the Away Team” Ordered Jez. “Of course Lieutenant, are you expecting trouble?” Said Slad with a raised eyebrow. Jez tiled her head slightly as if pondering his question. “No, not expecting trouble, just want to be ready just in case.” Said Jez.
Slad entered his Command Codes.”You stand relieved LIeutenant.” Said Slad. Slad found Lieutenant Mala fascinating; she was a hybrid. He found her fascinating from the standpoint that she was half Vulcan and Half Betazoid, but she operated in a very logical Vulcan like manner.

The watchful eyes of every Riani satellite and scanner remained trained on the Aquila. The probe’s stealth capabilities had allowed it to slip by undetected, but a transporter signal would almost certainly be noticed.
Considering that the crew had been authorized to transport strictly to the Federal District in Tanndi nation, a transport another area could risk unwanted attention unless some effort were made to disguise the signal or to trick the Riani sensors.

Daniel listened to the information that Commander Velaul was giving him, it seemed as if the breadcrumbs were a little too easy for his liking in being lead to where the new Ambassador was being held.
Commander Kurasa reported in which prompted a suggestion from Commander Velaul on joining the way team and Lieutenant Mala suggesting civilian clothing which was backed up by the former.
Brooks looked at Velaul,
"Yes Number One, join the away team and keep us update, I also agree to changing out of uniforms, but be open if anyone asked who you are as otherwise it might look as if we are being sneaky."
Captain Brooks moved over to the center chair and took a seat,
"Open a channel on all frequencies."
Once the channel was opened he said,
"This Captain Brooks of the Federation Starship Aquila, we are here on a peaceful visit and would like it to remain in that context. My crew are only coming down to enjoy your planet nothing more. Brooks out."

Naturally it would be a bad idea to misrepresent themselves as anything other than who they are, it leads to misunderstandings and lose their trust. Beno wanted to keep things as transparent as possible, and not come across as someone who just wanted to bring on War.
"Thank you Captain I will keep that in mind, this is a delicate time I don't want to disrupt." She took a second to think of their Science Officer. "I leave you in the hands of our capable hands of Khasim, who has been working hard to cultivate a plan for how to best search for our missing Ambassador."
Before leaving the Bridge Beno took a second to talk to her, Khasim was doing a good job and should know it. "You two are working well together, I am sure you can come up with a plan to search for the Ambassador." All plans would have to be taken to the Captain before they put them into play. She quickly left the Bridge, and headed for her team.
== For Khasim ==
That’s entirely up to you as players. I created the thread because it seemed like the crew was leaning in that direction, but it’s completely up to you if you want to send a separate party down to investigate the crash site and industrial zone.

Brooks’ transmission sparked a flurry of responses from various governments and corporations. Many were cordial in tone, offering to take the crew on a tour of some facility or landmark. Some were more inflammatory, accusing the Federation of interfering with global affairs by aligning with the Tanndi nation. Others were more pragmatic, offering extravagant prices for specific pieces of Aquila’s technology.
The Tanndi government, however, was oddly silent. In fact, their scanning equipment appeared to be powered down. They were the only government on Riani that was no longer actively monitoring Aquila.

There were a lot of responses to the Captains hail, to him there was no surprises that it would happen. The systems of Government that hated them there were likely not to be the ones, however should never be dismissed as a possible source or potential friend. "I wonder who is the Capulet is and the Montague is in this case." He said silently to himself while thinking about a different angle.
There had to be some kind of background that Cologero could look up about both factions, what makes them tick or what is it they are really looking for. It was this line of thinking that inspired another line, like who controls the area the truck went to. The area the vehicle went to might give a clue to whom might have the Ambassador, with the kicker of intent.
"Captain it stands to reason that the people who are no longer interested in us already have our technology." Cologero had a small thought about how to get down on the surface. "Lieutenant Khasim have you ever thought of a drop ship? One ship fully powered carrying another powered down under the hull, once the ship skims the atmosphere the other drops in hopefully un detected." It wasn't a sure thing to work, but it was something to think about.

After giving some thought, Samira came to a decision. "If it's alright, Captain, Commander, I'll stay aboard the ship. If you and Talion are down there, I'll need to remain here as Acting First Officer. And I can help out to be eyes from the sky with the sensors."
She took Captain Brooks' side and settled, for the first time, onto Commander Velaul's chair. She then looked at Ensign Coppola. "A drop ship can be interesting, but the ship would have to be pretty big to drop off a smaller ship, unless we're talking about using this ship to drop off a shuttle. And we'd have to make our skimming the atmosphere look like we lost control of thrusters or something, given how many eyes there are on us."
Samira began thinking, and then looked at the other Science Officer under her. "Lieutenant Young, start the sensors running, narrow your scanning beam and get into a spiral pattern outward from the shuttle. Keep an eye out for Starfleet signatures of any kind. Especially our kind of dilithium. If anybody from the planet asks, we're conducting a random test on our sensors to check their functionality," she added, looking at Captain Brooks.
"And besides which, if we come across sensor shields or jamming areas, we'll know," she finished. Then, turning to Ensign Coppola, she said, "Mister Coppola, are you still in contact with the probe?"

Captain Brooks noted the desired response from his hail, it worked to cause a little bit of confusion for the moment,

Due to its impurities, Riani dilithium was quite different from that which the Federation employed in its warp engines. By filtering out these impurities from her scan criteria, Khasim was able to search for Federation-grade dilithium, the type which would have been used in Ambassador Gebrezghi’s shuttlecraft. This pure dilithium existed only in one place on the planet: in a spacecraft manufacturing facility in the Tanndi wasteland. Khasim’s scans also revealed at least a dozen Riani life signs inside the facility.

The away team was fired on, or at least their Ambassador was shot. It wasn't entirely too clear on their intent with the exception of one thing, the Ambassador could have been seen as a loose end. If Cologero was the head of a major crime family a loose end is the last thing that he needed, even if that meant the elimination of a federation citizen.
"Mister Coppola, are you still in contact with the probe?"
There was no reason for him to have lost contact with the probe at this time, unless something were to have happened to it. While attempting to regain contact with the probe, Cologero scanned the area where the away team was as well, if there was weapons fire chances were great there would be more. "Attempting to gain contact with the probe again Lieutenant." There should be some kind of trace he could follow, even if it were just one person.

Admittingly it was a good idea to have a spiral search pattern to find Federation technology, at very least find something that doesn't belong there. Their communication technology would stand out, their Combadge had material that wasn't available here. There was also the fact that when opened a distress call gets transmitted, Carley would also expand to look for one that might be lost in the shuffle.
"Good idea Lieutenant, lets also look for distress calls we might have missed." The Atmosphere has caused problems with scanning the area, so it wouldn't be a stretch to find out it caused the same problems.
The spiral pattern that Carley had started, was from the exit of the shuttle. If anyone were to have escaped from the shuttle, they wouldn't be too fat away. On foot peoples travel range isn't that big, smaller when the terrain was ruff like this. Makes it difficult for people who do this all the time, almost impossible for people who don't

"See what you can do to reestablish contact, Ensign," Samira said. Then she turned to Carly before looking to the scans. "See if there had been evidence of distress calls lately, too, Lieutenant," she said to Carly. "I'll see about the dilithium."
"Hmm...interesting. Riani dilithium is different from the kind of dilithium Starfleet uses for the starship engines," she said. "I might be able to distinguish between the two. Let me see, filtering sensors...."
After a bit of work, she got something. "Ah-ha. I was able to distinguish the dilithium used in the Ambassador's shuttle, Captain. I got a trace...there we are," she indicated. "Out in the Tanndi Wasteland. Some kind of facility," she added, her sensors over it. "Looks like the kind to make spacecraft, too small to be a starship drydock. Scans show a dozen Riani lifesigns within."
She looked at Ensign Coppola and said, "See if you can get results from the probe, and then adjust the probe to get over the Tanndi Wasteland, just so we can make sure."

Captain Brooks hoped that there probe wouldn't get spotted while the officers on the Bridge started to work it out then suddenly over the comms came the Chief of Security voice,
[Commander Kurasa to Transporter room, Bridge and Medical; we need an emergency medical beam out of the Ambassador to Medical, stat! He has been struck in the torso by some form of weapon and without immediate Medical care he will perish, Beam him directly to Sickbay; we have no time to lose; Energize now!]
There was a quick response from the transporter chief.
Daniel looked at the view screen with a thoughtful expression,
"So much so for the Ambassador not wanting to leave the planet." he said thinking about it for a moment, if this peace was as fragile the Ambassador had indicated this would clearly have a very quick impact.
"Bridge to Sickbay, give me a status report of the Ambassador, once you have assessed him. Brooks out." closing the channel as he knew they would be very busy in Sickbay right now.
Lt Khasim reported in, "Ah-ha.
Brooks nodded, "Yes, double check Mr Coppola we don't want to do a knee jerk and find ourselves in the wrong place." he said,
then he added,
"Once it is confirmed inform Commander Kurasa and let them decide on the best course of action from where they are."

A familiar voice came over the Bridge comm:
[Commander Kurasa to Captain Brooks. Commander Velaul has ordered us to prepare to move out, please arrange immediate transport of the Ambassador's family to the ship for their own protection. They could be threatened or kidnapped to leverage us, Kurasa out.]
== For Coppola ==
Coppola remained in contact with the probe, which remained at the shuttle crash site in the Tanndi wasteland.
Scanning for weapon signatures near the away team, Coppola identified a sniper-like plasma weapon near the window of the apartment across the street from the apartment of Ambassador Jonas Weisbrantz. There was no life sign identified near the weapon, indicating that the attacker had fled the scene immediately afterward.
== For Young ==
With some time and careful tuning, Young was able to confirm that there was no Federation distress call to be found anywhere on the planet. If Ambassador Gebrezghi was holding a communicator, it had either been broken or purposely disabled.
== For Khasim ==
Can you clarify what you would like to learn by moving the probe? The probe is capable of moving form its original landing site near the shuttle crash, but the manufacturing facility can be seen clearly from Aquila.
Using the sensors on the probe, Khasim was able to confirm the presence of Federation-grade dilithium in the facility. Pieces of the engine were identified in multiple areas across the facility, indicating that it had been disassembled.

The scanners had picked up on one of the last things that Cologero would have suspected, they had left the weapon there. There were no life signs around it, meaning that it could be a perinate fixture there.
"Captain I have found the weapon that just fired, it was left behind from the attack. May I have permission to beam it up for security?" It might be useful to find out who did it, this would also lead to why it happened in the first place. There was something that he didn't understand, did they leave the gun and take the cannoli? He would understand if it was about not having the evidence on him, or if it was left there for a target to be names later.

Samira got the probe data up and she looked through it, and she looked at the Aquila sensors. The facility is easily seen from the ship, but the probe definitely confirmed what was detected.
"So that facility does have Federation-grade dilithium, Captain," she said to Captain Brooks. "The probe's confirmed it. And the probe has also picked up something else. Pieces of the shuttle's engine has been identified all around the facility. Looks like the people within have disassembled it."
She looked back somberly at Captain Brooks. "That in itself is not good. They may just as easily find out how it works..."
Looking at Coppola, Samira said, "If a weapon is going to be transported, we'd best be careful..."
