A01 - AUDITORIUM
#1
Starfleet Academy's auditorium is a huge, bright, modern-looking space capable of seating over 500 people. The entire South wall is made up of windows allowing the sunshine in and an awe-inspiring view of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. On the other walls hang large painted portraits of Starfleet legends--the noble people who set an example for cadets and officers alike--including the likes of Jonathan Archer, Christopher Pike, and Kathryn Janeway. There are currently a few dozen beings of various races occupying the auditorium: some are talking in small groups and others just enjoying the view between classes. Most are wearing uniforms designating them as cadets at Starfleet Academy. A few are wearing the purple tunic that denotes them as Academy personnel.

Just below the stage is the admissions area; a long desk sits there with multiple computer terminals as well as two or more officers. At the center position is usually found Captain Maddie Allen, the Academy Superintendent . Newly arrived Cadets report to her for training holodeck assignments, where they will undertake the final portion of their four year academy training. The Dean of Evaluations, Commander Carrs Jasal, can be counted on for assistance as needed.

There is a queue of cadets at the admissions area, awaiting their turn to accept the assignment for their final examination here at Starfleet Academy.

== Welcome to Federation Space RPG and Starfleet Academy! We're so glad you've decided to join us.

Please make your first post below! The post should contain two things...

First, write an in-character portion describing your character's arrival in the auditorium. They have just completed four years at Star Fleet Academy and are waiting the assignment for their final examination. They should report in to the Admissions desk to the officer on duty for their assignment.

Secondly, you must read the Cadet Code of Conduct and the Federation Space Constitution. Include in your post an out of character statement that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by these documents.
For example:
Cadet Davis entered the auditorium and tugged at the stiff collar of his uniform. Seeing the admissions desk and the short line of Cadets, he approached and waited to catch the eye of the officer on duty.

"Cadet Davis reporting for assignment sir!" He cringed at the volume of his own voice, hoping no one noticed the error.

It was raining on that December day that Cadet Callan Campbell walked across the Academy campus toward the building that held the Auditorium. He felt this uncharacteristic weather was ironic. Rain, grey sky, and a chill in the air. There was a word for it back home in Scotland;

Dreich.

He found it particularly ironic as while he had grown up in the Scottish Highlands, he had actually been born in San Francisco before moving to live with grandparents across the Pond, and now he had brought the dreich weather back full circle. Still, it made him feel more comfortable as the cold wet drops of rain fell upon his face while he walked from the public transporter station with the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge behind him. Reaching the door to the building he paused to look back over his shoulder, that way lay his old life, through this door lay the path to his future, and all that stopped him taking that path was the final examination of his Academy study. He felt a sudden attack of nerves and his stomach churned. He thought he was going to vomit right there in the doorway, which would be most embarrassing. Instead he took a deep breath, centred himself, and entered the foyer.

Inside he noted that there were a dozen or more people scattered in small groups or individually in the entrance area, and at the far end a long desk with personnel wearing the uniforms of Academy personnel. Callan had, like all his fellow cadets, attended many lectures in the huge Auditorium space, taking whichever seat was available as he was invariably a few minutes late each time. On this day though, he was bang on time, and had no more lectures. Hopefully.

He proceeded as directed past the paintings of legendary members of Starfleet from years gone by. He lingered for a second at the portrait of Jonathan Archer, a fellow climbing enthusiast, and of course his chief engineer, Charles Tucker the Third, a particular role model of his. From scaling the earthbound peaks to commanding Earth’s first warp five starship. One day maybe I’ll do something like that… but only if I pass this exam

Joining the short queue of cadets before him, he shuffled closer and closer as the line got shorter, until it was his turn to approach the reception desk. Callan summoned his confidence as he faced Captain Allen, the Academy Superintendent in person, and smiled politely.

“Cadet Callan Campbell reporting for final examination, Sir.”

Maddie was quietly reading through instructor reports, waiting for the next group of cadets to begin filing in the auditorium. It was always an interesting time, watching cadets enter the auditorium to report for their final assignment, their final exam.

The first cadet to approach this time was an engineering cadet.

"Cadet Callahan Campbell reporting for final examination, Sir."

Maddie gave her typical smile as she spoke, "Hello Cadet," she trailed off as her eyes looked to her console. With a quick few taps she identified his holodeck. "It's a good day for a final examination... Are you ready?" Not waiting long enough for any inside thoughts to get the better of the cadet she continued with a positive nod of her head. "You are."  She took a breath and then provided the cadet his assignment. "Cadet Campbell you are to report to holodeck one. Your instructor won't be long, so don't let me keep you.... good luck cadet."

She took a sip of her chai latte as the cadet left her desk. She was alone once more, left to watch cadets who were passing through. Some to gaze at the portraits hanging, some to wish their friends luck, some to think.

Leo walked through the large doors that led the way into the main auditorium of the Academy. He walked briskly and with purpose, the purpose being that he didn't cause any congestion at the entrance. Continuing his walk, Leo nodded his greeting at other cadets and instructors, most of whom returned the gesture. Leo took note of everyone around him and found that barring a handful of cadets who were here for the same reason, they all strolled towards their destinations calmly. The same could not be said for Leo, how could he be calm or even slightly relaxed for that matter. Today was the day. Today was his final exam.

As he walked to one side of the large open space, brightly lit by both the natural light filtering in through the large windows and open doors behind him and the rather bright lights that hung from the ceiling that to him, looked at least a hundred feet above him, Leo stopped to take a breath.

Pulling out his Padd, Leo took note of the time. ‘Good ten minutes early’ he thought to himself just as the Padd beeped twice. Responding immediately to the notification, Leo opened the message and read it quietly. [Sorry if this is late. Good luck today. Love Dad.] After a moment of collecting himself, the surprise of a message from his father, Leo tucked his Padd away and approached the counter at the far end of the Auditorium.

Seeing a Cadet walk away from the officer behind the desk, and that officer take a sip of whatever she was drinking, Leo headed towards the desk. He noticed how the lady he approached was merely people watching. ‘See, some officers are just normal people too’, he argued internally with himself trying to make light of the task that awaited down the hall from the counter he now stood in front of and then announced himself.

“Cadet Alden, reporting for final assignment”

As Maddie sipped her chai, she noted the room was beginning to fill. The next cadet approaching received a bigger smile for the simple fact he wore the same colors of her major. She nodded to him as he reported.

"Cadet Alden, reporting for assignment."

"Hello Cadet Alden. Welcome to your last task to complete before graduation. Let me get your assignment..."  She moved her attention to the console in front of her and upon finding Leo's assigned holodeck she looked back. She paused a moment and then continued.

"You're assigned holodeck is holodeck three. Your instructor will be along soon... If you feel anxious, just take a few deep breaths. You'll be fine." She smiled and nodded at the cadet. "Good luck cadet."

As the cadet left her desk, she looked to the line forming and called for the next one in line, "Next!"

Entering the Auditorium, Mika took in the sights of all the various cadets and Academy personnel going about their lives. It wasn’t her first time standing in this particular space, but it was the first time she saw it in this particular light. Today was the beginning of the end for her time at the Academy. It was, however, a doorway to her future in Starfleet, and she was going to step through.

Hard to believe someone was in my shoes, looking at me the same way I’m seeing others now. Biggest question is whether or not I looked as nervous as some of the first-year cadets are now back then. Four years seems like almost a lifetime ago, in a small way.

Entering the queue, Mika straightened her uniform to make it more presentable for when she would eventually reach the end of the line. Scientists could often get engrossed in their discoveries to leave little time for basic appearance. After all, why wouldn’t a possible greatest discovery in the universe be more important than looking pristine? Approaching the desk, Mika made sure to breathe.

“Cadet Mika Bowman, reporting in.”

Approaching the Acadamy's main auditorium, she felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety. She felt a comfort in knowing she wasn't the only one feeling this way. Standing in front of the formidable door, she stilled her mind and pinned her copper/blonde hair back, and took a deep calming breath.

Entering the space, she noticed how the sunrise illuminated the room in a golden hue. She saw a somewhat familiar face that was around the Academy. She had an inviting smile, and looked like she was deep in thought.

"Here I go," she said to herself walking up to the desk.

After standing in line, going over diseases and surgical procedures in her head, it was her turn. She heard a authoritative yet calm "Next" that brought her back to reality.

Throwing her shoulders back she approached the desk, and announced, "Cadet Amethyst Bremner, reporting for assignment,  Sir!" She knew she was to overzealous in her approach, but she stood there at attention, waiting for a response.

Maddie smiled as she saw a few more cadets in line prepared themselves for their last assignment. She did a quick glance of the assignments on her console, while waiting for one to approach.

"Cadet Mika Bowman, reporting in."

Maddie gave her typical reassuring smile to the science officer. "Hello Cadet Bowman, let me grab your your assignment..." Her voice trailed away as her eyes went to her console for a moment and then returned to the cadet. "You've been assigned to holodeck four cadet. Your instructor will meet you there."

She paused as she looked to the corner of the room, where a slight ruckus seemed to be starting. She gave a look to one of the security officers in the room and then nodded to the ruckus, silently telling them to take care of it. Her face never changed though. For anyone watching her, she seemed the same as she had been.

"Good luck Cadet Bowman. You'll do fine."

After the cadet left her desk, she motioned for the next cadet. The security officer had calmed the back of the room and Maddie was eager to learn what the issue was, but didn't let the thought consume her. There would be time to deal with that later.

"Cadet Amethyst Bremner, reporting for assignment, Sir!"

Maddie smiled as she took in another sip of her tea. "Pardon me," she began as she set her cup down. "Never can enough caffeine. Makes it easier to keep up with cadets." She threw the cadet a wink with her smile. She looked to her console quickly to identify their assignment, then looked back to the cadet.

"Cadet Bremner," Maddie began. "You're assigned to holodeck five for your final exam. I expect your instructor will arrive shortly... If you're feeling at all anxious, don't let it get to you. You wouldn't be here if you weren't ready. Take a breath and go get it done."  She smiled and then finished with a "Good luck cadet."

She waited for the cadet to head towards their assignment. Once they had left her desk, she did a few things on her console in front of her and then looked to the next in line, acknowledging them with a motion of her hand and a quick, "Next."
