Peter's voice sounded throughout the ship:

[Jensen to all senior staff, as well as Midshipmen Aiden, Bowman, Bremner and Campbell, report to the briefing room at once]

[All Hands, this is the Captain. We have suffered an explosion in the Waverider Dock. We do not know why, but an investigation is ongoing. Midshipmen Campbell and Bremner were caught in the vicinity of the explosion. The Yeager will now be competing in the Wairara's race, and it appears we will be competing against the Os'rusa again. There will be time to lick our wounds and grieve later, but for now we still have a mission to accomplish and I need everyone to do their best.]

As the distance to the temporal anomaly closed, odd things began to happen. Chronometers seemed to count backwards briefly, and members of the crew started having eerie feelings of déjà-vu, as events occurred that they could have sworn had already happened.

In the corridors, names on quarters changed. Some wall panels began to look older and more worn, while others remained almost-new.

Most of these phenomena could be brushed off, but as the ship edged even closer, they could no longer be ignored. Crew were suddenly wearing uniforms from the mid-2370s, and their reflections were no longer their own. The habitable areas of the ship no longer seemed to be a nearly brand-new Yeager-II class, but rather an Intrepid-class that had seen better days.

And the ship was at Red Alert, juddering under multiple weapons impacts.
