== At some point in the future, on the bridge of the USS Zephyr while she is conducting a series of surveys in uncharted space. ==
The rhythmic hum of the warp core was a constant, soothing presence on the bridge during the long transit between systems. Alpha shift was progressing with a quiet efficiency that Ameen appreciated. He was reviewing planetary survey data from their last stop when the officer at the science station sat upright in her chair.
"Commander," she said, her voice cutting through the calm. "I'm picking up something. Long-range sensors. A single, small object. Definitely artificial."
Ameen set his PADD aside, his full attention now on the main viewscreen, which still showed only the swirling blue tunnel of warp space.
"Location, Ensign?" He asked.
"Vector 318, mark 015. It's approximately two light-hours from our current position, Sir. It's adrift. No warp signature, minimal power readings, but it's not an asteroid." He replied.
Ameen stood from his chair, his mind already cycling through the possibilities.
An old probe? A derelict? Deep space was vast, but it was rarely truly empty...
"All senior officers, please report to the main bridge," he said, his voice calm but firm, tapping his comm badge. "Helm, bring us out of warp on my mark. Let's see what's out there."
