“Captain Braggins, a brief moment of your time please.”
Jenny had been just about to give the signal to the starbase staff to start circulating and guiding people to their seats when she heard the voice over the low rumble of dozens of conversations happening at once. The voice was deep and raspy, carrying a familiar British accent; it wasn't too different from when she had taken command of the Philadelphia and been introduced to then-Chief of Security Peter Jensen. As she put eyes on the ginger officer snaking his way towards her, she was taken back to that fateful encounter; the voice was the same, the build was the same, even the hair was similar enough to make Jenny wonder whether her First Officer had a son he hadn't told her about...
Or a younger brother...
I swear to the Great Bird of the Galaxy, if he clicks his heels I'm going to flush him and Jensen out a torpedo tube...
Putting the speech she was due to make to the back of her mind, again, Jenny turned to face the new arrival as he approached.
"Quickly; if we delay the serving of snacks, we'll have a mutiny on our hands."
Okay, too soon.
"What can I do for you, Midshipman...?"
