“Ensign Elliot,” His new boss replied, “I do recall you from my Engineering manifest, and I recall that you had quite the Academy career. Tell me, are you familiar with asynchronous warp field generation methods? Because if so, I might have a side project for you to handle in engineering.”
Ian was already high on the excitement, and the idea of getting a side-project from the boss nearly sent him over the edge. “I haven’t toyed around with it much sir, but I’d sure love to try!”
The human-with-cybernetic-implants approached him, and Ian could have sworn he started shaking from the excitement. He went for a handshake with both the engineers, and Ian could only trust his body knew what to do, as his mind was in a state of elation.
“You must be the grease monkeys.” The man’s voice was smooth and creamy, and Ian could feel a small, stupid-like smile on his lips. “I figured I’d come by and introduce myself since I’m half metal anyway. I’m Dr. Cassidy, I’ll be joining the medical team in case either of you need a tune up.”
Ian let out a giggle. An honest-to-goodness-giggle, like a toddler getting a toy. “Ian Elliot.” He choked out, “Ensign.” Jadaris was already palling around with him, and Ian couldn’t even be jealous, since his mind was still trying to figure out how he’d been so lucky. A Vulcan woman joined them, and her introductions and greetings grounded him slightly, and he was able to muster out some sort of non-verbal greeting back.
He stared at the new CMO, trying to figure out something to say that wouldn’t immediately get him punched in the face. He wanted to say he was fascinated by the man, wanted to study him, wanted to ask about all his implants and how close could he look at his skin? He was overcome with things he wanted to say to Jadaris too, like what made him want to be an Engineer, how long had he been in Starfleet, who…
Ian felt light-headed. His left arm shot out and grasped the bar as his body swayed, and he saw twinkles in his vision. Oh my god, I’m so excited I’m literally going to faint.
