Andrew moved across campus in auto-pilot, after years at the Academy he knew this campus like the back of his hand. However, today that back of his hand was turned away with the padd in his grip held close up to his face. He was frantically reviewing Gray’s Anatomy. What he wasn’t doing was paying attention to where he was walking and all of sudden THUD!. Andrew was jolted to alert, the padd clattering to the ground as his eyes focused on the person he bumped into, and he fear struck his heart.
“Sir, my apologies Sir,” He spluttered quickly. “I was not looking where I was going.”
“No, you weren’t! Pay more attention, Cadet.” Came the response of the lieutenant reaching down to pick up his own stack of padds, Andrew’s scooped up as well. The Lieutenant looked down and smirked, “Final exam? Good luck.” He chuckled as he pushed the padd back into Andrew’s hands and carried on.
Andrew’s heart was racing and his breath ragged. He was never nervous like this, but he knew this exam would determine his posting and he was desperate to get it right. The cadet took in some deep breaths and steadied himself before setting off again, this time his attention fully on the way he was going.
Turning the corner the quad into the main Auditorium building he saw the desk ahead. Slipping the padd into his uniform pocket he took a few final steadying breaths and made his way to report in.
Starfleet Academy’s Auditorium never failed to impress Andrew, the vastness of it was awe-inspiring and humbling. The sheer number of historical moments that took place here, and the figures of history that trod the same floorboard as he was not lost on Andrew and he was determined to live up to the example they had set.
As he came to the desk, Andrew came to attention “Cadet Stone, reporting for assignment, Sir.”
