“Why don’t you take some time to introduce yourself to the crew? This is probably the nicest they’ll look for quite some time. If you’ll excuse me, I need to practice my San-Tarah.”
Truthfully, Mika wished she could gather more information prior to meeting new individuals. It wasn't that she was unapproachable; instead, she liked to gain a better understanding of others so she wouldn't feel out of her depth. Given how easily she appeared to irritate the medical staff, Mika understood that she needed to exercise more caution in her forthcoming interactions. With that in mind, the young woman took a sip of her wine while her gaze swept across the auditorium to identify the most suitable group to approach.
I'm definitely avoiding the Captain. Approaching Braggins might make me seem like a kiss ass. Jadaris, the Gorn that affected Papaver, could be a good option to find out what happened indirectly. However, he's next to the First Officer, putting me in the same situation as approaching the Captain.
It appeared that the most appropriate choice was that of the two security officers. One officer seemed to be new, but Mika did not recall seeing him when she and her fellow Midshipmen had reported in. While security personnel could sometimes be perceived as harsh within the fleet, Mika did not adhere to such stereotypes. Besides, it was the most feasible option, and she had been strongly encouraged to interact with others.
With some additional liquid confidence, Mika approached her two fellow shipmates. She overheard part of their conversation, noting that one Midshipman was correcting the other on his name. It seemed similar to what Qi was for her, though Mika was not fully aware of who the senior officers were, aside from the command staff. As she neared them, she decided not to interrupt and waited for either of the two to speak to her.
