Beinn had intended to keep to himself for the duration of the party, though he watched Jenny's speech attentively before he started to make his way towards the replicators so that he could get some actual gagh that wasn't laden with cheese. As he did so, Commander Qi approached him and greeted Kal-Geal in his native tongue. His ears twitched as he shook his head lightly and replied in galactic standard,
"You forgot the context there Commander. Your ears were neutral, so that could've been translated as you not caring about your food, in which case I would just take it from you and letting you starve on your own desires. Ears forward, and you want to share your kill with those you regard as equals. Ears flat, and you're bragging about the superiority of your food and challenging me to take it from you if I can. I assume you're being friendly however."
He smiled and continued,
"The Klingon empire didn't care if we spoke Klingon at home or not, and my parents made sure I learned our language first before the Klingons. So, I am fluent in it, because our howls carry our language across long distances as well, which are more descriptive than the Klingon empire could give us. Resonant frequencies gave us the edge in communicating, so, we had to learn our language at home because it was necessary for survival."
He switched back to San-Tarah and replied,
"You need not share the kill with me. I have my own food I have hunted for, though your company is welcome at the fire."
In standard he added,
"That's the good response to make. It respects your skill as a hunter, and accords respect to my own hunt, making us equals as we eat it in warmth."
