Beka cut an uncharacteristically dishevelled figure as she made her way down the corridor towards Aeryn’s quarters, still in full uniform. The redhead had kept her word to Robin and been on full firefighter duties in Sickbay, along with taking on the tasks of making sure everything was in place for the launch.
All of this would have been so much easier if I hadn’t picked a fight with the head of Support multiple years ago and she wasn’t still bearing a grudge about it she thought to herself. Nobody in purple had crossed any lines or put anyone in danger. But they had made everything that little bit harder than it needed to be.
I fucked around and boy am I finding out… Calleja kicking me off all the Security cross-training as well wasn’t exactly a surprise but she could have been a bit less ‘scorched earth’ about it.
Getting to the right door, she tapped in the code and let herself into Aeryn’s quarters.
“Hey you,” Beka said. She slumped into a chair next to her scantily-clad girlfriend. After a moment she wrestled her tunic off and lay back in her black undershirt, her head hitting the back of the couch.
“Sorry, I’m absolutely fucking shattered,” the redhead admitted. “I haven’t got the energy to be ‘on’ tonight. You want the usual Beka bounce, going to have to wait until tomorrow.”
Her shoulders rose and fell as she drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly. It took an effort to straighten up as the redhead looked for something to drink. She didn’t see the Bajoran cola behind a plate. All she saw was the whiskey.
“Oh come on. You know I can’t drink that,” Beka said. “I start getting pissed up, I’m going to get fired. I’m glad you’re allowed to drink but I’m still permanently on call. That’s why I swore off alcohol. We’ve had this conversation.”
She sighed.
“I expect Support and that monster Calleja and half the Medical staff to make my life difficult. I’ve earned that enmity by being belligerently me. Can I just have a night off please?”
There was a decidedly sour note to her voice as she finished. It was pretty obvious that being tired was making her irritable as well as oblivious.
