Hallowette was already warmly engaged with her new friend, but somehow that perked her up even more. She had just spooned another generous bite of the delicious scottish dessert, but placed the utensil against the side of the dish as she focused her attention on Aeryn's next words.
"Before I came to Artemis, I was involved with and supposed to marry a man named Loren Merle, who was from the Rankantha Province. Unfortunately, I lost him when our ship, the Alexandria, encountered an anomaly that killed a third of its crew. I'm still in contact with his family, as well as the d'ja pagh that he gave me."

Hally felt her stomach drop as Aeryn mentioned the memory of a lost love who happened to share her father's species.
"Loren Merle..." the hybrid muttered reverently.
Hallowette's father had spoken the names of his closest friends lost during the war every night before he went to sleep. As a girl, she had interrupted him once when visiting him on the space station where he worked as a security officer. Instead of sending her away, or berating her for interrupting his ritual, he had sat her on his lap and explained what he was doing.

All names she had etched into her young mind. All names that she still lit a candle for when she went to temple. All names she still thanks the Prophets for - for protecting her Daddy. For giving her a future. A life.
"I...I'm so sorry Aeryn." she answered softly. "I'm going to recite something to you. Something my father used to say...when he honored those he lost in the occupation."
The young woman placed her spoon down, and interlaced her hands in a particular way where her fingers formed a circle, then placed it against the center of her chest. She lowered her head and quietly said, "Raka-ja ut shala morala... ema bo roo kana... uranak... ralanon...Loren Merle... propeh va nara ehsuk shala-kan vunek ...tal'on, Pro'feta talon'i shalon..." She looked up, her voice suddenly heavy with emotion - the happy burden of carrying with her that which also belonged to her father.
"Translated, it means, 'Do not let him walk alone... guide him on his journey... protect... the one named Loren Merle... take him into the gates of heaven... until we gather again with the Prophets who have seen us home...'"
