Aeryn didn't know why she felt so compelled to share what had been one of the most traumatic experiences of her life, but being around Hallowette, and learning about the value of language and its context and meaning had allowed the redhead to be comfortable enough to share her story. She might not be overly religious, but she did appreciate the Prophets, and all that they stood for, having received that symbol of Merle's love, and becoming fond of the Bajoran culture as a whole. Beka knew about him, and so did Robin. Besides that, she had told very few people, with maybe the exception of Damian. It had simply never come up in conversation, as other things had demanded her attention, but now that she could sit and think, even if it was only for a short while, it just felt right.
Hearing Hallowette repeat his name brought more memories to the forefront of Aeryn's mind, their first meeting, how they had clicked, and his teaching her all about the Prophets, and Rakantha Province, as if she was opening the pages of a book. It had been a while since she had done that, and again there was no shame because she loved Beka with all of her heart, and had processed a lot of what she had experienced since changing ships.
It was okay not to forget, to look back fondly without bursting into tears before Hallowette spoke to her softly, and offered to recite something that her father used to say. " Thank you, I still miss him, and I think I always will, but I know he'd be happy seeing me loved, and I'd love to hear it".
With nothing to distract her as she set down her almost empty bowl of dessert, Aeryn focused on Hallowette's words, recognising the language being used, and appreciating the tone of her friend's words. When she finished and explained what they meant, Aeryn let that soak in, bringing her some comfort.
" That's … perfect Hallowette, and I have such an appreciation for the Prophets and what they represent. Even now, I sometimes ask for their guidance and to watch out for those I care about, especially in times of trouble".
