When speaking about Hallowette's father and their similarities, Aeryn opened up the conversation to a change of topic, well, a different thread from what they had already been talking about. A subject that was met with a smile before her new friend revealed her father's name and how she thought he was probably a lot like her. Aeryn smiled again at the comparison, keen to hear more about Bren, and in turn, Aeryn was willing to share more about her parents if Hallowette asked about them. " I like him already", she quipped, before focusing on what her fellow redhead had to say. The story of how she came to be and her parents was one that Aeryn found insightful and informative, nodding her understanding of what she meant about their relationship status at the time. She knew of others like that, both successes and failures, while never having to experience it directly.

The tale wasn't without emotion, particularly about the differences when it came to her parents, the tragedy of war and its effect on her father, and the horrors he had to endure because of the occupation. It wasn't the first time she had heard of such things, thanks to Merle's family and what they had also gone through, but it didn't make it any less personal or emotional to bear witness to someone else's hardships and appreciate their spirit to carry on, and not let it break them. As Hallowette's tone became lighter and she told Aeryn about what had stopped her father from fighting, brought out another smile.

Rather than intervene, Aeryn's attention never wavered as her friend continued, this time the story being of how Bren had gotten into the Fleet, and became a security officer. Far from boring, Aeryn was enjoying hearing everything, especially the part about how he had overcome a lot, as well as how Hallowette got to spend that precious time with him. Something that she missed with her parents, but at least she had spent the majority of her younger life with them until she left for the Academy. Hallowette then mentioned why her father was her hero, and Aeryn couldn't fault her reasons. Before, she brought up something that Aeryn couldn't ignore.

" You haven't bored me at all, and thank you for sharing all of that with me. You're not wrong either, as I've also overcome a lot since deciding to leave the research station and join the Fleet".

Aeryn paused as she thought back on it all, then told her story. " I always thought I would stay on the research station and become a Botanist, and help our community continue to grow and flourish until I met the crew of the Einstein. I'll never forget what they did to save us from a rogue asteroid or how Captain Amirez inspired me to change direction. The Academy wasn't easy for me, and I did reach burnout to the point where I almost lost everything. Thankfully, I was able to try a different department, and I never looked back, although I kept Botany as a minor. Security was like a new lease of life for me, and the Alexandria was like an extension of that. So, Captain Amirez was my role model and mentor, who never gave up on me, and encouraged me to continue. I still keep in touch with him, and he wasn't surprised when I moved back to Science. It was like he knew that I would eventually find my way back to who I needed to be".
