Green eyes looked up questioningly at Aeryn as Beka processed what the other woman had said, and then went back down to the glass of cola.
The doctor grabbed the glass with bad grace and leant back on the couch again, taking a sip as she did so.
“Sorry. I’m apparently blind as well as tetchy tonight,” she said. Her head slumped as she drew in a deep breath and let it out to try and centre herself.
“I don’t know what’s with me lately. I just seem to spend my whole time looking for a fight, and always in the wrong places. Like with Robin and the beast in the briefing, and you now. It’s like I’ve got little man syndrome and I’m charging round trying to land punches on people much bigger than I am.”
Beka sighed.
“Still. At least you’ve figured out how to handle me. Never give me anything I might ever find offensive and I’ll probably calm down eventually. Don’t you ever get tired of being so damn careful? There’s got to be others out there that aren’t anywhere near as much work. And you might actually get to be you.”
She didn’t mean her words to sound as sour as they did, but they were out there now and there wasn’t much she could do about it.
