The freckled boyish Midshipman looked on quietly as two of the ships Chiefs enjoyed a moment of shared experience, one that reminded Hallowette that while all of this was shiny and new to her, months and years of companionship, bonding, drudgery and crisis had come before her. These women, impressive in their positions - but just as starkly so as to how unalike they were in personality and decorum, had formed something that she longed for - true respect, friendship and camaraderie. They may have seemed worlds different in countenance, but they still were working towards the same mutual goals - and they seemingly were closer for it than not.
Calleja's uncouth demeanor, while slightly shocking, was honestly somewhat of a refreshing change of pace for the young hybrid. As the most junior of officers, often she felt like she was still in the Academy. Every i dotted, every t crossed, every title, name and nom de guerre attended to properly and presented without flaw. The microscope had felt as if it had been keenly trained on her from the moment she entered the ship. Her experience in the lounge had been among the first real times she had felt accepted for who she was, and not the job or rank she portrayed. Mara's (and her reputation) had caused her to regress, but her informal bearing and disregard for rank had caused her anxiety to ease. Of course, as a linguist, Calleja's choice of expletives (among the first she had heard, at least with this frequency) interestingly served to settle her as well.
“So you fresh outta the Academy? I think I saw your name on the new arrivals list. Which bit of Tactical d'you prefer? Flyin’ the ship, or makin’ shit go bang?” Mara said with a wicked smirk.
Hally laughed, knowing full well where this was going. "I zoom zoom, and let others boom boom." she said mirroring the Chief's smile. "Though I scored well enough during the Tactics finals to serve as a weapons officer. The appeal...certainly isn't lost on me." She sat back slightly, winking slightly. If Mara wanted to pick, then she was happy to do so, even if she still was a little bit terrified of the woman. Besides, Pilots were among the fleets best at bravado, and that usually included an unhealthy amount of ripping goodnaturedly at one another. "How about you Chief? Those big arms used for anything other than signing brig detail PADDs, and cleaning phasers?" She followed the jest with a wolfish grin of her own, and she glanced at Aeryn, ensuring that her new Scottish friend was invited to play too.
