Peter had given the obligatory nod of assent at Braggins' reminder that careful didn't win races. To be quite frank, he cared about as much about winning the race as a penguin did about bathing suits. But...well, that was the mission, after all.
He didn't have much time to think about it more, though, before the whole ship shook, and he suddenly, along with everyone else on the ship, had something much more pressing to think about. Namely, not blowing up and having his atoms scattered across space only insert-favorite-deity-here knows how many lightyears from Earth.
He looked over the damage reports to try to get an idea of just how exceptionally, royally screwed they were. And he gulped once when he put two and two together as to the people who had been at the epicenter of the explosion. Then shook his head ever so discreetly - there was no benefit to thinking about that now.
Then he heard Artemis' voice, and he felt ever-so-slightly better. Wasn't much, but he'd take every little improvment now:
[ d’Tor’an to Bridge. Investigating the scene now. What the hell was that?! ]
He tapped his own badge and answered:
"Jensen here. We're trying to ascertain that at the moment. Proceed, but proceed with caution.", he said. He had managed to keep the tone professional and to the point...but only just barely. The primitive part of his mind wanted him to tell her to stay away because it was dangerous, but he managed to fight the impulse to indulge that. Much as it pained him.
Once again, he didn't much time to think of this, as Bowman reported her findings, thereby thankfully distracting him by snapping him back to reality.
Internal explosion? I don't like what this suggests...
Peter was a Security man before he was anything else. And a massive internal explosion on a ship that seemed to have no clearly discernable reason suggested sabotage to him.
But he had been serving with engineers and scientists long enough to know that there probably was some sciency explanation. He just couldn't think about it at the moment.
