The tricorder scanned nearly a dozen different samples across the surfaces of the room. It began to try and tally how many individuals before it popped up with an "indeterminate" reading, which typically meant that it needed a better system to process the data with.
However, it was able to determine that there were only two species represented there. One of them was Cardassian, while the other was flagged as "refer to Library files". While this flag was decidedly not typical, a quick check for more information would show that this typically meant that it was recognized by the system, but that the actual reference data was not stored on the tricorder itself. It would need to go to the archives to get more information.
