Cass stared at the console with a small frown, noting the position of the power switch with a little huff. It was in an unfortunate position given her current state and its position also confused her as it didn't correspond with any configuration she recognized. That wasn't entirely impossible as smugglers weren't known for maintaining the integrity of their ships but usually, they were the cheaper designs like salvaged Federation or the knock off Ferengi system.
This just looked odd.
She'd hesitated, her good hand fumbling to unhook her tricorder as she battled between the wariness of a security officer and the curiosity of an investigator. Ultimately, the curiosity won as she awkwardly worked the power switch while trying to keep the tricorder in place wedged between her bad arm and torso.
Her eyes shifted from tricorder to console as it went through the boot up process, feeling some relief when she didn't notice a signal being transmitted from the console. In hindsight, she likely should have informed someone, probably Crawford, of what she was doing but it seemed there was no harm, no foul so far.
Any warm feeling she might have felt from the inertness of the console vaporized when the console flashed to its main screen with a menu that suggested it was a system related to identifying friend/foe. It wasn't an entirely uncommon system in the world of security functions but it's origin was hardly common. Nor did it fit with her current understanding of this ship and its circumstances.
She didn't have time to further consider what piece of the puzzle she was missing when her communicator beeped and the Artemis' delightful COS began speaking.
[Calleja to Crawford and Givens. We’ve gained entry to the hidden space. The qoH is a slave ship. Chains and manacles down the walls, dried blood everywhere. That’s why they went to such lengths to stop us gettin’ in here. Can’t see any survivors but we’re goin’ to give it another look over. Ship’s sensors didn’t pick up Ramius so maybe there’s more. Standin’ by if you have any other orders.]
Calleja's information caused Givens to pause further before using her uninjured hand to unmute her side of the line.
"Givens here. Well, I have more good news to add to your uplifting tale. I've got a mysterious console on the bridge that seems to be of Dominion origin, possibly related to a security system as it involves identifying friend vs foe; I have a hard time thinking that's a coincidence all things considered nor would I consider it standard issue even for a slave ship. If we have an engineer or tech whiz to spare, this might be worth looking over as I don't want to stumble my way through this."
