Peter barely stopped himself - but did manage it - from swearing loudly when the Wairarans nonchalantly said that the damage wasn't serious.
A feeling that was very much intensified when Art's report came back.
Fudge!
Not that he had a lot of time to think about how annoying that was before Artemis' voice came through again and delivered the tragic news.
He had lost people before, of course, but this just seemed like the universe was trying to spite them. It wasn't even in battle. Or during an away mission. It was something as mundane as an explosion. And what would there be to write in the letters to their families? "Whoops, tech malfunction, sorry"?
He nodded calmly when Braggins asked him to go down and find out what had happened. This had been a crap show so far. And the mission hadn't even properly started yet.
"Aye Captain", he acknowledged, then got up out of his seat and headed for the turbolift. He also had not liked the sound of Art's voice for some reason. It had been...wrong. Ever so slightly.
