Two commbadges pinged back as inactive. Those belonging to Midshipman Campbell of the Engineering Department, and Midshipman Bremner of the Medical Department.
Both commbadge trackers had last been detected in the vicinity of the Aeroshuttle Bay.

The journey to the starting line was short, but tense. The Wairaran ship appeared to be acting more as a "pace car" than a guide, as it made sure to stay ahead of the Yeager and prevent the larger ship from getting lost.
The starting line itself, when it moved into view, was little more than a pair of marker buoys with several vessels hovering between them. Most were of Wairaran design, identical to the ship escorting them but with more powerful engine emissions, but one stood out. It was a blocky, brown, Anhk-shaped vessel. The Yeager's computers identified it from visual records before passive sensors confirmed its energy signature.
It was the Os'rusa.
There was no immediate information as to why the Cardassian vessel was there, seemingly ready to participate in the race. But as the Yeager was ushered into her position on the starting line, it seemed as though that clarification would have to wait.
The viewscreen sprang to life as an aging and rotund Wairaran stood at a podium, addressing an audience that now included the Yeager's crew. The jumpsuit he wore barely contained the bulge of his midsection, and was festooned with patches and medals. A dark robe with various icons stitched into the fabric was draped over the top. The iconography alone would be enough to make a Xenoanthrapologist drool with anticipation.
[Gentlebeings! We are gathered here on an auspicious day! We enjoy not one, but two visitors to our world! Today, both compete in the Wairarapoo Challenge! May they race with skill, courage, and honor, and be considered friends to the Wairara!]
The visual stream ended abruptly, replaced by a map of the circuit they were due to complete and the current position of the six competitors. A timer, translated from whatever unit of time the Wairara used into Federation Standard, counted down until the start time.
