To say things were developing into a clusterfuck was something of an understatement. Apparently the Wairara assumed the Yeager was going to compete herself, there had been no discussion of any alternative, and for some reason everyone else was already at the start line. Including the Os'rusa. The presence of a Cardassian Battlecruiser, especially that Cardassian Battlecruiser, was cause for some alarm - they were in neutral space, so they had as much right to be there as anyone else, but alarm bells were already ringing in Jenny's head.

Jenny frowned deeply as she took in the message and the course layout. No greeting, no diplomatic overtures, just straight to business. Niceties first, then competition; those were how things were usually done, but the Wairara had apparently turned that concept on its head. The pilot in her appreciated the directness, but the situation was the antithesis of all she'd learned as a Starfleet Officer.
These are all things Tomer should have briefed us on. Speaking of which, where the hell is he?
Jenny's finger jabbed down on the commpanel on her armrest.
"Mister Tomer, report to the Bridge immediately."
There was no sugarcoating the tension in the room, which was already palpable, but an increasingly-irritable CO was something very difficult to ignore. The situation was spiralling, and she needed to get it under control as soon as possible. There was still a mission to complete, despite having two (likely) dead Midshipmen, a damaged vessel, and a hostile Cardassian vessel whose Gul she had somewhat embarrassed on their last encounter.
With a muttered curse, Jenny plucked a cigarette from her pocket and lit it. She exhaled a large cloud of smoke as she sighed, and then began to take stock of the situation.
"Bridge to Engineering. It looks like we're going to be entering the race. I need all available power routed to the engines, sensors, and deflectors in less than two minutes."
With that sorted, and Jadaris no doubt already trying to figure out how to squeeze more power from the reactors, Jenny turned to the slightly less-than-agreeable task that needed to be done before the race began. The crew knew something was up, they deserved to know the whole story.
"All Hands, this is the Captain. We have suffered an explosion in the Waverider Dock. We do not know why, but an investigation is ongoing. Midshipmen Campbell and Bremner were caught in the vicinity of the explosion. The Yeager will now be competing in the Wairara's race, and it appears we will be competing against the Os'rusa again. There will be time to lick our wounds and grieve later, but for now we still have a mission to accomplish and I need everyone to do their best."
