Captain Vakir's answers were a mixed bag of partial revelations and stark, unyielding opaqueness. Ameen listened intently, his expression carefully neutral as each piece of information, or lack thereof, landed. He glanced down at the device in his hand. His mind raced.
A selection of Titania's Command Crew... but I pick the FO and CTO. Sothrick isn't coming, he is likely the new FO of the Titania now. He will be Replaced by a Lieutenant Gath... file on the PADD. Ra'an... is she on the list of transfers? If so, in what capacity? This needs to be sorted immediately.
Then came the stone walls.
"Not at liberty to discuss the Zephyr's previous command team." Vakir said.
No intel. Wonderful...
"Nor am I at liberty to discuss Captain Fields or the Titania at this time." She added. And a knot tightened in Ameen's gut.
My own Captain and ship, effectively ghosted. This stinks of something far bigger than a simple reassignment...
But there was no time to dwell, no time to demand answers that clearly wouldn't be given.
"By immediate, I mean immediate. You need to gather your people, report aboard, and prepare for departure. The Zephyr needs to be en-route to Trill within the hour."
One hour. To Trill... Wow...
The deadline was a physical weight. Ameen straightened, the PADD held firmly. The faint hum of Deep Space Nine's operations floor beyond the office walls seemed to press in, a reminder of the clock now ticking with ferocious speed. He had to assume the transfer orders for the selected Titania personnel had already been disseminated by Starfleet Command – that was standard for such a rapid, high-level reassignment. His job was to get them moving, now.
"Understood, Captain," Ameen said, his voice betraying no hint of the storm of questions and concerns still raging beneath the surface. He gave a curt, professional nod. There was nothing more to be gained here except lost minutes. "We'll be underway."
With that, he turned and strode out of the Fleet Captain's office, the Cardassian-style door hissing shut behind him with a note of finality. He was already tapping his combadge as he stepped back onto the upper gantry overlooking the bustling operations pit.
His voice cut through the ambient noise, firm and decisive. "Ameen to all USS Titania personnel newly assigned to the USS Zephyr. You have your transfer orders. Rendezvous at docking port seven immediately. Prepare for imminent departure. Ameen out."
First Officer, Tactical Officer... I'll need to designate them the second we're aboard... He thought, his pace quickening towards the turbolift. And Lieutenant Gath... welcome to the fire.
The challenges were immense, the unknowns vast, but the objective was clear. The USS Zephyr had a new captain, and a new mission.
