Amila listened as he called out her name... and to her delight accepted her terms. He wanted a second date.
"Duly noted... Amila, consider 'Lieutenant' officially retired for tonight. Especially, if a second date is indeed on the table. A very compelling offer."
She could see the boat rock from the force caused when Ameen used it for leverage to push off, but she focused more on trying to not lose sight of him as he cut through the water. It was dark. Dark enough that apparently he hadn't seen her, even though she wasn't that far away from where they had been treading water mere centimeters apart. His location was best given away by the distortion of the light from the stars reflecting on the surface of the water as he disturbed the otherwise calm waters. As Ameen got further away from the boat, it occurred to Amila that it would be funny to swim back towards it.
As he called out to her she slowly moved backwards through the water to avoid his path. Her movements through the water were graceful and deliberate and she did not rush. Amila was more focused on listening as he called out across the water than she was about getting away. She hung on every word.
"Hiding from me now, are we?" he continued, his voice was teasing, the resonance a low murmur. "Disappearing under the cover of darkness after laying down such enticing terms? You're making this very interesting."
She was glad he was having fun with her game. Even more glad that he said he wanted a second date.
Just don't screw this up now, Amila.
"I seem to recall you being interested in what else this 'crazy night' has in store, and I have to admit, a starlit game of hide-and-seek with a beautiful woman who just promised the possibility of a second date... that's a rather captivating development."
She had managed to swim around him in a wide enough arch to avoid being detected - either that or he was just playing with her. Either way, he was making it fun and that was what mattered. She was now making her way back to the swim platform. Though, the more Ameen talked - the words that he was speaking to her through the darkness, made her long to be in his arms, to revisit the kiss from earlier. She was almost ready to call the game to an end as she inched closer to the boat, but she curiously waited to hear what else he might admit to as he tried to draw her out from hiding.
"Don't think you can hide for too long, Amila. I'm quite determined to find you. And when I do..." He let that thought linger, letting Amila's imagination wander. "The night is far from over."
Amila's heart skipped a beat. He was adding to the thrill of the already exhilarating night by making his own promises.
Her hand found the ladder, and as she started to pull herself out of the water she finally responded, her voice mirroring the playful affection that his had when he was calling out to her.
“Has anyone ever told you that you are terrible at hide and seek?”
She was now standing on the swim platform, triumphant in her success at making it back to the boat undetected. She did a slow spin and performed a dramatic bow in show before joyous laughter finally escaped her lips.
