“You’re out of uniform, ensign..." Cassidy had said through gritted teeth, the pain obvious on his features.

"Yeah, well..." Micah had begun as he laid his superior down on the bio bed, doing his best to support him as he did so, but before he could finish his answer Pax continued, "I'll let you off with a warning this time."

Micah spat out a chuckle, responding through his trademark smile, "Yeah, but you can't deny I make out of uniform look good - I especially like the no shoes thing. Who knows, I might work better with freezing toes." He looked at the man, offering a playful wink before he scanned his broken form visually, taking in the extent of his injuries. He really didn't know Cassidy all that well, and he hoped that his tone was taken in the manner it was offered - though if Dr. Cassidy was really serious about it, he intended to ensure that the man was well enough that when he did blast him over it once released, he would have the strength to really do it right.

Micah reached down placing a his fingers on Cassidy's wrist as the bio bed began it's readings. His early training had been more on the informal side, and he still felt the need to place his hands on his patients, connecting with them on a pseudo-spiritual level as much as taking vitals by hand. He long ago left behind any awkward feelings or weirdness he may have felt over his metaphysical leanings. He was trained by an Aenar Guru - The Spirit was as much a part of patient health as blood and bone. He realized that most of science would refer to the skill as empathetic response, but for Micah it seemed more complex than that.

Whatever it was, Cassidy's spirit seemed strong, and that gave the dark skinned doctor some relief. Pax was undoubtedly grievously injured, and in the myriad warzones Micah had found himself responding over the years, this sort of trauma absolutely was often fatal. The fact that thermal shock wasn't completely overriding Cassidy's ability to function was a good sign, though it meant little in the end. The Chief needed immediate treatment.

“Doctor Ellis, my initial scans show second-degree burns on the exposed skin and first-degree burns where the uniform covered. I believe there’s also some thermal damage to the airways.” came a familiar voice. Nurse Zihr was someone Micah had spent a bit of time with, and he appreciated the Andorians thoroughness. Even if he insisted on calling him Doctor.

"Thank you Zihr. Let's focus on getting on handle on any eminent shock issues. After that, we can start on his lungs." He looked down to see Cassidy manage to give the nurse a thumbs up, and he nodded, placing a hand on Zihr's shoulder. "And again, no need for the Doctor Ellis stuff. Micah is fine."

He stepped over to the bed display on the wall and took stock of the initial readings that Nurse Zihr had relayed to him. He then picked up a PADD and transferred the feed to it. "Chief, I got good news and bad news." He stepped back to the bed and looked down, his voice continuing to carry a compassionate tone, but more business this time, "You're a physician, so you already know what I'm gonna say, but I'm gonna say it anyway." He glanced back at the PADD, pausing before placing his grey eyes back on his hulking patient, "You're in a bad way Pax. Extensive burns, your airway is compromised and it looks like you might have muscular trauma from the blast. You might as well get comfortable." His face softened a bit and the gentle smile eased back on his lips, "The good news is that you have Nurse Zihr here to watch over you while I do all the boring Doctor stuff." He placed his hand back on Cassidy's arm, making sure not to cause any more pain or distress, "You're gonna be ok man, but this isn't something I can just regenerate and release you on. If you're ok with it, I'd like to give you something for the pain and to help you sleep while we run the interstitial rebuild sequence. I know that it can be...uncomfortable."

He waited a moment for him to respond before he noticed the ship's First Officer, walk through, offering the CMO a nod before heading for the Turbolifts. He tapped Cassidy on the arm and said, "Excuse me just a second brother."

"Commander Jensen, a word if I may." said the underdressed and chronically informal Ellis. "I just wanna say, Doctor Cassidy is going to be ok, but he's going to be out of commission for a bit. I know I'm the junior of the juniors, but once I get the Chief settled, I want to help where I can. Let me know, yeah?"
