"Here, the preflight is complete...sir."
Powl received the PADD as he stepped away while raising an eyebrow. After reading the record of Lt Krandall, it was not surprising that he had already taken initiative to run through the preflight checklist. The record for Krandall indicated such behaviors could be expected as his tenured career in Star Fleet did not begin with just bridge operations. In fact, he was at heart a pilot. Given that, the preflight checklist would be one of the first items that would logically be on Krandall's mind.
"Excellent work, Lieutenant," Powl looked over the PADD briefly.
Only one small issue.
Powl turned back around to see Lieutenant Krandall and approached him so that he was closer to him and he lowered his voice so the conversation was more private. Only someone truly intending to eaves drop could hear.
"One thing Lieutenant, I certainly respect and appreciate your initiative especially in such a rushed time as this. However, my expectation moving forward, please report in prior to beginning any work.
It is understandable that this time was certainly impossible for you to do so as you did not yet have a Chief Tactical Officer to whom you could report. Your efforts today are commended, and I look forward to that continued effort and attitude. This is not an admonition, simply setting expectations. Welcome aboard. After your shift, let's meet in the crew lounge to discuss your background and the department."
Powl resumed his walk to his chair. His knowledge regarding the Steamrunner class vessel was greatly lacking and he began finding anything he could about the Zephyr. Despite her age, it seemed that she was well equipped to handle a scuffle if necessary. With 5 phaser banks and burst fire torpedoes, a crack weapons officer and an experienced pilot like Krandall can make trouble for anyone wanting to try and look at the Zephyr and think she would be an easy target simply given her size.
Torock had been so deeply looking into the Zephyr and the newly inherited tactical department that he missed Lieutenant Ra'an turning around to him. Much less, he didn't initially hear her.
“Wild day, huh?”
Taken aback, he determined she was referring to the rapid pace and the rather unusual circumstances surrounding the entirety of the mission. Not only were they quickly reassigned, but also quickly sent on a mission with little to no information and with a very new crew harvested from the Titania. On top of that new positions around for everyone, and new leadership moves were made to accommodate the change.
Powl paused his delve into the data banks of the Zephyr to acknowledge Lieutenant Ra'an.
"Indeed, and I do believe a congratulations are in order for you. Well deserved Lieutenant."
