Nearly forty hours had passed since the Zephyr had jumped to warp, forty hours of steady travel at Warp Nine. Ameen had managed some rest, thanks to Petty Officer Jensen’s efficient scheduling, and now, refreshed, he stepped onto the bridge as Alpha shift was due to begin.
The main lights were at normal daytime levels again. The low hum of the engines was a steady, familiar presence. He saw a few officers at their stations, some from the initial night shift perhaps nearing their handover, others from the Alpha shift looking like they were just settling in for the new watch.
"Good morning," Ameen said, his voice calm as he moved towards the command chair, taking it. "Report status on our approach to the Trill system."
He listened for reports from the relevant stations, his gaze moving to the main viewscreen where he expected Trill to soon dominate the image.
Right on schedule, if all has gone well, he thought. Let's see what awaits us...
Assuming reports confirmed they were approaching or had reached the drop-out point.
"Helm," Ameen ordered, "prepare to drop to impulse power. Science, look for any unusual readings from the Trill system as we approach."
Once they were confirmed out of warp and the planet Trill was in visual range on the main screen.
"Lay in a standard orbital course, Helm," Ameen instructed. "Position us to await instructions. Operations, open a hailing frequency to Trill Planetary Control, standard Federation greeting, if you please."
When Ops signaled the channel was open, Ameen would lean forward. "Trill Control, this is Commander Morad Ameen of the USS Zephyr. We are arriving as per Starfleet orders and are awaiting your instructions. Please advise."
He settled back into his chair, watching the viewscreen and the activity on the bridge.
Now we wait. Let's hope they're expecting us, and this isn't another Fleet Captain Vakir surprise...
