Hallowette grinned with a subtle shyness as Aeryn and Mara repeated her impromptu lesson, the pair taking in her words and the deeper cultural meanings as they did so. The freckled young woman wasn't sure to be surprised by Mara's interest, but she was very well pleased. Before tonight she never would have expected the muscle bound woman to have had such a sensitive side underneath the layers of harsh reputation. She was an enigma, but one Hally was more eager to get to know.

Aeryn, of course, took right to the lessons, much as she had expected. "Absolutely Aeryn, I'm happy to teach you all about it." she offered cheerfully.

Interestingly to Hally, both women had particularly interesting accents, though worlds different to have been speaking what was supposedly the same human root language. As Robin approached and rejoined them, her ears perked up at the woman's soft drawn out accent, again as different to the other women at the table as it could be.

Hally couldn't think of a time she had been party to such a wonderful night. Artemis, you are full of surprises.

As Mara greeted the ship's doctor, Hally couldn't help but wrinkle her nose in delight at the especially scrumptious smell coming from the plate of snacks she put before them. Human culture often revolved around the social sharing of food, a practice not uncommon in the galaxy, and her friend from the Academy made all the gestures that ensured this plate was to be shared. Hally shared a big toothy smile at her, took a plate and placed one of the forewarned tacos upon it. Licking an errant bit of sauce from her thumb, she listened intently to Mara offer her own insight into Trill, and then bark out a bit of Klingon to demonstrate how very different the languages were.

Hally chuckled loudly at Mara's phrases, familiar as she was, as Calleja mentioned, the lack of nuance in the language. She nodded her head in happy agreement and took a bite of the taco. Her mouth immediately filled with a familiar taste of Earth, one not so different from the Bajoran food that her father had regularly fixed.

"Ooh..." she cooed, "Robin, that is soooo good." her mouth still a bit too full to really speak. She covered her mouth with a long slender fingered hand and rolled her eyes in ecstasy, doing her best to finish the heavily spiced bite before speaking again, "I've always found Human food to be a bit on the bland side, but this...this hits just right."

Mara offered a bit more reserved take on the food, and Hally laughed. Bajoran's were known for their tolerance of heat, and luckily for her, she had inherited that trait from her Dad. She ADORED spicy food.

Mara continued though, brining the conversation back to language.

“Compare that with the Trill. Shalora. Torilen. And those phrases. Lareth thae thalor? Almost spiritual. Very reverential. Tracks with what little I do know about the society and how the rituals are all so tightly bound up in it,” Mara continued. “One day I’ll go visit. I’m not remotely spiritual or religious or any of the rest of it myself. But I appreciate those who are. You guys always give me plenty to think about. Sorry, I’m assumin’ you are. With Trill and Bajoran background, I figured it would have come up early and often?”

Hally's broad smile lessened a bit, but didn't quite fade away. She placed the taco back on her plate and she looked among the women at the table, "Yeah. Well. Kind of." She paused to collect her thoughts. It wasn't the first time she had been asked about her faith and spirituality. As Mara had inferred, she was a child of two different worlds, both reverential in their own ways, but almost completely unrelated, finding spirituality in completely different ways. "Uhm, I grew up on Trill, so admittedly a lot of my youth was shaped by the values in that culture. Trill aren't particularly religious. They...we...are spiritual in our own way, but as I said before, it's much more tangible. Our relationship with the symbiotes is mutually beneficial. We evolved together. We are literally more as a united pair. If possible, every Trill would undergo the joining, but..." her voice trailed off and she looked down a bit and absently placed her hands on her abdomen - over the vestigial pouch on her stomach, "Uhm..." she looked back up and forced a small smile, "That isn't an option for some of us. There aren't enough symbiotes, plus we have to ensure that they are not corrupted by the mentally ill or..." she paused, "Or other elements that might...damage them."

She let the phrase linger for a moment before continuing, "As for my Dad, well...he was a child soldier during the Occupation. He had a...difficult...relationship with the Prophets..." Her smile became a bit more real as she thought on him, "Dad resolved some of that when he was stationed on a Starbase early in his Starfleet Career. His first CO, Captain Thea Baker - and others helped him to overcome some of his issues, and now he venerates the Prophets as most Bajoran's do." She nodded, "But you know, for the Bajorans, the Prophets ARE real. It's indisputable. They really do watch over Bajor and our people - though if that is as gods or just as benevolent aliens...well that depends on your perspective I guess." She picked up the taco again and prepared to take another bite, "As for me, I am not particularly religious, though, I do believe that there is more." She grinned lopsidedly, her nose wrinkling again as her eyes darted from Mara to Aeryn, then to Lucy and Robin. "And that's good enough for me right now." She took another gracious bite of the taco, and covered her mouth again as she said, "How about you guys? Robin? Lucy? Anything interesting or unique about your cultures that you don't mind sharing?"
