Several thoughts raced through Talion's mind. He heard what the FO was saying to him, as well as attempting to evaluate the situation. There were other voices trying to give him input as well and fortunately his brain processed the data very rapidly.
The orders from the CO had been to assist the Security Team assigned to Jonas. This plan included his family, but technically the focus was on Jonas himself. He also was uncertain about the legal standing of the family, but they didn't want to leave anyway and he was certainly not going to try and abduct them against their will. There had been an attack, but they appeared to have been satisfied with their target when they shot Jonas. With Jonas being shot and transported to the ship for treatment, his task of protecting him was now null and void. The apartment had a security system and anything that would overcome that would be more than he would be authorized to engage in their defense without starting an interstellar incident. He also realized that if he stayed behind, he would not be assisting anyone, as he would be alone.
In that second, Alex realized that he had to trust that although the FO appeared to have not been briefed on his orders, he obviously had also not been entirely briefed on her orders. As his orders not longer were valid, he had to presume her orders were valid. If either of them were wrong, they would have to figure it out as they went. that was sometimes just how things went in the field. There often came a time when you had to make a decision and go with it.
The FO had taken off his badge and turned it off as she handed it to him. He made his decision, putting his phaser away, turned to the civilian family and said, "You're right. Keep your defenses up for now and remain safe in your home. If Jonas is not in touch with you by morning, someone else will be. My apologies if I scared you, but there is reason to be cautious right now."
The team was transporting. There were still glowing remains of their transporter beams as he turned on his badge once more and placed it back on his chest with a sigh. Alex really hated using the transporter, but sometimes there was no way to get around it. As he suspected, the system reacquired his lock instantly and initiated the still active transport process. At the destination, his arrival was a bit delayed, but it made him simply the last to finish materializing.
Alex looked around the "Commercial District" they had arrived in and tried to take in the details. He silently wondered if any of them would get shot by these locals, or if they only reserved that fate for Ambassadors.
== I think that catches me up and should resolve any loose threads from before. I had limited input to go on, so I decided to wing it. ==
