When they reached Amila’s door the energy and excitement from the night lingered. The connection she’d felt with Ameen, with Morad, was at the forefront of Amila’s mind - the easy way they laughed together, how he shared pieces of his life that were important to him, the fun. It didn’t bother her that the night was over because she was already looking forward to the second date that had been teased. The when and where didn’t matter, what she was she cared about was having the chance to get to know him better, to hopefully build on what they’d started.
"Amila," he started, his voice a bit deeper and a little husky. "Tonight… was really something special. More than I..."
Amila. She loved hearing him call her by her first name, stripping away the formality and professional boundaries that had previously stood between them, so many boundaries all broken down within the last twenty four hours and the connection that they had found so quickly once they were gone. She smiled at him as he paused for a moment, seemingly unable to find the words. She didn’t need him to. There had been so much unspoken between them that evening, yet the message still seemed to be getting through.
"Thank you," he said finally. He looked right at her and she met his gaze just as intently and gave him a short nod as he continued. "For sharing it with me. For being so adventurous… just for being here."
A warm smile came to his lips. A smile that she felt was just for her.
"And hey," he added, his eyes crinkling a little at the corners in a playful way, "I'm really looking forward to that second date you talked me into."
Amila’s lips pressed together as she suppressed a smile and she shook her head in mock reproach. “I don’t think you needed much persuasion,” she pointed out. “If you had, I wouldn’t want to go anyway,” she teased, though not without a hint of truth behind the sentiment.
“But, no seriously. Thank you for the adventure. I loved it,” She said, her tone quickly changing to one of enthusiasm. “And I am looking forward to that second date with you, too.” Her fingers tightened around his as she lifted up their interlocked hands slightly, then let them free fall, causing them to swing gently back and forth.
“I suppose we need to say something to Captain Fields before we set that up though, huh.” It wasn’t so much of a question as it was an acknowledgement. She nodded at him encouragingly. “It’s alright. I don’t mind waiting.”
Amila took a step closer to him and stood up on her toes, giving herself another couple of inches in height as she looked up at him expectantly.
“So,” she said softly, “Are you going to kiss me goodnight or what?” She said the words, but she didn’t wait for an answer as she closed her eyes and brought her lips to his in a gentle yet passionate kiss. Her heart skipped a beat as she felt that connection again, the energy still charged between them, even as she pulled away.
“Goodnight, Morad. Thanks again for an incredible night.”
Amila let go of Ameen’s hand and took a few steps toward her door. When it opened for her she stepped onto the threshold and turned to look back at him one more time, her eyes still dancing with the sparkle from the magic of the evening.
“Until next time.”
