The tension that Amila had been carrying over how to address the concerns that she had over their approach to the mission slowly melted away as Commander Ameen spoke. He was not just accepting, but approving of her proposals and positions. She had been so concerned about the appearance of crossing orders that she had forgotten who was in the command chair. Ameen had always been one to listen to every officer on his team, regardless of rank. She knew that.
She let out a slow sigh of relief as Ameen finished, and nodded respectfully to him and Keir before stepping out their way as the Commander began addressing others on the Bridge.
"Ops," Ameen, stated to Molina after announcing instructions to the senior staff. "Petty Officer," he began, his tone soft but clear, "and just 'Commander' is fine for now, thank you." He then gave her the order. "I want you to prepare a formal, coded message for the Trill High Council. In it, you will reference our orders from Starfleet Command, our arrival time, and Ambassador Junde's last communication regarding an unspecified 'delay.' Request clarification on the status of our mission and an estimated timeframe for when we can expect to receive Mediator Kestir."
"But do not send it yet." Commander Ameen held up a hand before she could act.
"Given the delicate nature of Trill customs, we will afford Ambassador Junde every professional courtesy. If we have not received any substantive communication from his office within the next... thirty hours, then you will transmit that message to the High Council on my authorization. Understood?"
Isabel was amused by the Commanding Officer's gentle correction. A Captain that doesn't like to be called 'Captain' struck her as unusual. She thought most command officers couldn't wait to hold the title, but she went with it in stride. "Aye, Commander, understood. I'll put an alert on this station for all shifts between now and then to contact you directly should anything come through from the governmental center or the Ambassador's office."
Amila was hovering near the science station now as Commander Ameen looked around at the bridge crew.
"Alright everyone, you have your assignments. Let's use this waiting period productively. At the same time," Ameen added, "we don't know how long we'll be holding this position. It's important the duty shifts remain fresh. Commander Keir, please coordinate a rotation for bridge personnel to take brief breaks from their stations. I want everyone on watch to remain sharp."
Amila nodded curtly in acknowledgement, and then walked over to the tactical station to address Ensign Powl before retaking her own station.
"Ensign Powl, when we get further along in these holodeck programs, I wouldn't mind some insight from you if you think you'd be able to lend yourself to the project," Amila started. "For these programs to be meaningful, there will be a need to interact with realistic characters from each of the planets. I noticed they both have Vulcan populations. I could use some critical eyes on the people that the computer develops for the programs if you think that might be something you could assist with."
