Robin didn't feel annoyance at being turned down. While it was true that she wanted to get out of Sickbay and back into some field work a freighter full of corpses wasn't exactly something to be enthusiastic about. It looked like they'd found enough clues to move on, and if time was short then that was just the way it was. She tapped her combadge in reply.
"Understood, Captain. I'll assign someone to get on that immediately. Lieutenant Calleja, could you have one of your people tag the bodies for transport and let the Transporter Room know when they're done? It makes things easier. Mayfair out."
And less messy. The last thing we need is a bunch of corpses appearing in the middle of Sickbay.
The Artemis did have someone who could serve as a forensic pathologist on board. Ensign Melody Miller was a recent transfer from the Lexington, an almost stereotypical 'goth' with a taste for the morbid and a dark sense of humor that matched it. Robin rather liked her despite the gloomy facade she wore and her fascination with the gruesome. While it wasn't her primary field (Starfleet trained its doctors to be able to fill multiple roles) she'd likely be happy to get her hands dirty. Decision made, the CMO stepped back out.
Things were quiet. There were still treatments going on with the wounded security officers (and Beka and Star were still in surgery), but otherwise they were back to normal. The young pathologist had dyed black hair in a very short stylized bob that came down to cover one eye. The nurse wondered how she could stand it, but she wasn't someone who understood fashion.
"Doctor Miller? We've got some Klingon corpses that're going to be beamed to the morgue in a few minutes, cause of death Lieutenant Calleja and her merry band. We also have some matching scans. Would you do a complete workup on them? I'll also give you access to the blood samples we just took, too. We need to know if there's anything unusual about the bodies, up to and including genetics. The blood sample are of Cardassian and Vorta clones, but we don't have any of those bodies. Pull Doctor T'Seva if you need her for the genetics."
The young British woman's eyes lit up and she smiled as if it was Christmas. She was obviously struggling to suppress her eagerness and maintain a professional bearing. "Yes Ma'am. I'll get right on it."
God help me, if she makes a Frankenstein monster out of the things I'm leaving Starfleet.
"Report any findings to me ASAP. We might be heading into trouble, so anything you can find might be helpful. I suspect they're just run-of-the-mill slavers and smugglers, but at this point not much would surprise me."
The mention of slavers knocked back the doctor's eagerness a bit. She nodded, more professional this time. "Understood, Commander." And with that she was off to the ship's morgue.
