The qoH’s ion trail was the logical approach. The major issue was the dispersion of the ion trail as the nebula settled. The Artemis could follow the trail, but with the tractor beam in its current state doing that would mean attempting to bring the qoH with them, which would be cumbersome.
Another option was to send one or more probes to follow the trail and come back with their telemetry. It would provide the route taken by the qoH and allow for a more cautious approach. They’d need to drop a few more sensor buoys to enhance their sensor capabilities, depending on the distance travelled.
Lucy dug through the list of probe classes and found one which should fit the requirements, if the Artemis had one in its stores.
“Lieutenant Commander, we could use a class 7 probe to follow the route taken by the qoH, then have it return after finding its origin point. If it is within the nebula. It would be able to give us telemetry to follow and time to move, depending on the strength of the ion trail.”
Four would have given a better search radius, but one was less likely to draw attention and the class 7 was meant to have stealth capabilities which would keep the allies of the qoH from realising they had been found. Considering the crew of the qoH were mostly Klingon their base had to be inside the nebula as getting too close to Cardassian space would mean unwanted attention. It was an option.
