Things had not been calm in Engineering. The Captain had called down with what one could call both good news and bad news - the ship itself would be joining the race. All available power was ordered to be diverted, and Ian was determined to have that be all available power. He was looking through every ship’s system to find a couple joules here and there, be it from the replicators in Crew Quarters to the bathrooms in Sickbay.
The quick fixes had quickly been rerouted to the engines, shields and sensors, and now Ian felt his frantic power increase in intensity as he grabbed whatever he could to add to the energy bank that the requested-for systems would pull from. Jadaris had done most of the work of course, but Ian was still hustling.
“Mr. Elliot,” his Department Head said, “we're going to be at this awhile. We may have to raise the warp core's output to match the increased demand, which will put strain on all of our systems. When that happens, I won't be able do everything all at once, so you'll need to be proactive.” There was more, and he mentioned the Callisto for whatever reason, but Ian had already nodded and was trying to stay ahead of systems that would protest their power being taken away.
The Yeager didn’t like having her energy outputs messed with, and she resisted, and Ian resisted as well - resisted the urge to talk to the ship. It had been a habit he picked up while working in the scrapyard, especially since the only conversation to be had had been with the ships themselves.
Come on, sweetie, Ian thought, I know you don’t like it, and I’m sorry, but it’s gotta be done.
She was just starting to listen to him when the First Officer’s voice came through.
[Jensen to Jadaris. If you can spare Ensign Elliot, I would like for him to meet me at the site of the explosion in the aeroshuttle dock.]
Ian’s head picked up like a shot, looking wide-eyed at the Gorn, his confusion wearing obviously on his face. He didn’t want to leave, but this was the First Officer, and certainly not a man he wanted to let down. All the same, his Department Head needed him, and he was just starting to convince the ship to listen to him.
“Uh… sir?” Ian felt like he was wearing magnetized gravboots stuck to the floor, and he couldn’t move a centimeter because of it.
==Tag Jadaris! Sorry I suck at replying with this character.==
