During a conversation originally directed to the CO Lt Ra'an mentioned something that Keir filed away for the moment ." I have a friend on board, from Trill." Amila turned to look at Keir. "I don't know if you were planning a concert or something, but he's a fantastic musician. Anyway, you can trust him to be discreet and loyal to Starfleet if you had questions."
Moments later, almost as if the CO was reading minds ; the Captain looked over at hir adding:
"Commander, your suggestion about the piano player is a good one, especially since the dossier confirms her preference for light piano music. A holodeck program with appropriate music, or even finding a crew member to play, as Lieutenant Ra'an mentioned, could be a very considerate touch while we're on this extended journey. Please do look into that further."
Keir nodded quietly and s/he planned to speak with Ra'an at the earliest opportunity. But before s/he could give it any further thought the Captain added with a gesture towards hir; "Commander Keir, perhaps you can liaise with Lieutenant Ra'an on this? Your idea for music would fit perfectly into a broader cultural immersion package, perhaps explore the music of these two cultures too."
This must be how a tennis ball feels during a rally; Keir mused silently. Sam had shared her passion for the game with hir and s/he did enjoy it, but this would put a slightly different feeling to their next match.
The conversations between various bridge officers continued leaving the First officer a chance to complete a small but essential project that s/he had undertaken while observing how the bridge crew rarely seemed to take breaks; and s/he was just about to speak when the CO leaned in and added: "Commander Keir, please coordinate a rotation for bridge personnel to take brief breaks from their stations. I want everyone on watch to remain sharp."
S/he allowed hirself a small chuckle and then passed the Paad in hir hand, to the Captain. "I think you will find this will handle all the shifts, although I have not Yet figured in any possible requests for shift changes but I will send messages to all the bridge departments asking them to keep me in the loop concerning any such changes."
Keir sat silently for a few minutes until it seemed like the crew was focused and quietly added, "Do you and I need to work out our shifts in that regard. Are there times when we both should be here, or do we simply allow the circumstances of the day to dictate that?"
S/he excused hirself allowing the CO to think about what s/he had handed him and mentioned, and approached the CSO. Moving so that s/he could face Lt Ra'an. "So, we should schedule a meeting to work on the cultural issues that Commander Ameen mentioned? He has put this on you but I can and will be available for consultation and input. Anything now that you need to discuss with me regarding this"?
