The bridge was running with a quiet, focused energy. Keir had just handed him a PADD and reported the VIP quarters ready, hir hushed comment and crossed fingers not lost on Ameen. He was about to review the PADD when the main viewscreen suddenly came to life, pre-empting everything else. Ambassador Vel Junde's worried face filled the screen.
Ameen listened intently to the Ambassador's rushed message.
A medical procedure? That explains the delay and the secrecy. But now they want us to take her and leave immediately? This mission kept throwing curveballs...
"Understood, Ambassador, please send a medical report to my CMO in case we need to do any follow up to that procedure you mentioned. After all, Doctor O'Fee and her team will be in charge of our guest's health from through out our journey together, and she will need to be well informed in order to preform her duties and provide adequate care." Ameen replied calmly, though his mind was racing. "We are ready to receive Mediator Kestir and the belongings. Transporter Room One." As the screen went black, he turned in his command chair to face his First Officer.
He glanced down at the PADD Keir had given him. A full bridge watch rotation, already drafted. Good. S/he's on the ball, thinking ahead. He set it aside for a moment to address Keir's earlier question. "You're right about our shifts, Commander," he said, keeping his voice low. "One of us should be on the bridge at all times. We'll need to alternate our rest periods to make sure that happens."
"As ready as it can be, noted. Thank you, Keir. Good work." He then acknowledged Keir's report about the quarters.
With the VIP's arrival now imminent, Ameen straightened, his focus shifting to the entire bridge. "Ops," he said, his voice carrying command, "Acknowledge Trill Control. Inform them we are ready to receive the Mediator and her belongings in Transporter Room One."
He looked to the security station.
"Lieutenant Gath, alert your honor guard. Proceed to Transporter Room One to receive the Ambassador's effects and escort her to quarters."
He then looked to the tactical station. "Ensign Powl," Ameen said, his voice sharp and focused, "I want you personally overseeing this transport from your station. Monitor the inbound beam for any energy fluctuations or signature anomalies. I want to know the second anything seems out of place. No surprises on this, Ensign."
He stood up from his chair.
A 136-year-old diplomat who just had an urgent medical procedure and is about to be whisked away on a three-week journey... No, I'm not leaving her greeting to a junior officer. This was a task for the command team...
"Commander Keir," he said, gesturing for hir to join him. "You're with me. Let's go welcome our guest aboard personally."
"Lieutenant," he turned to the science station where Amila Ra'an was on duty. "You have the bridge. Keep us in standard orbit, but be prepared for a quick departure."
With a final nod, Ameen headed for the turbolift, expecting his First Officer to be right beside him.
I guess the quiet part of their journey was officially over...
