Mara smiled to herself as she listened to the toasts from around the table. This was why she was here, on board ship. She wanted to be a part of a crew. Her job meant putting herself between that crew and harm, and she liked nothing more than finding out that there were so many people worth doing that for.
Maybe this is it. Assumin’ I don’t talk myself out of a job in the next briefin’, this is the place I can stick around for. They’ve seen past the veil a little and I’m still here.
The Amazonian woman took a sniff of the drink to make sure it was alcohol-free and then took a sip.
"To new friends, and languages. ghIj qet jaghmeyjaj!” she added, the closest thing she could think of as a benevolent toast in tlhIngan Hol as she added to the chorus. ‘May your enemies flee in terror’ wasn’t exactly made for pleasant conversation but it was certainly on brand for Calleja, who had broken up multiple fights by the simple act of arriving on scene.
It seemed Robin had been unable to resist the siren call of the piano. Mara recognised the tune and chuckled quietly to herself. Music was the Security Chief’s not-so-secret-any-more escape and she was plenty capable on the keyboard herself, but she was content to appreciate the CMO’s musicianship.
"How about some more music, ladies? Keep talking! I can multitask."
“I mean, yeah. I’ve learned since I got here that there ain’t much you can’t do,” Calleja replied. “First time we met, you hammered me across a pool table. I’m so not used to bein’ hustled by a softly-spoken God-fearin’ pixie. Well. I wasn’t. I am now,” she finished with a grin.
She took another slug from the mocktail.
“When I think back to that party at that barn on Earth… Yeah. A lot’s happened since then,” she said. “It feels ages ago, and yesterday, at the same time. Time out in space kinda blurs it all together. But for what it’s worth, I’m glad for all of it, and I’m glad to be here. Especially with all o’ you. Even the rookie over there. I think you’re gonna fit right in,” Mara added with a nod and a raise of her glass to Hallowette.
