“I mean, yeah. I’ve learned since I got here that there ain’t much you can’t do,” Calleja replied. “First time we met, you hammered me across a pool table. I’m so not used to bein’ hustled by a softly-spoken God-fearin’ pixie. Well. I wasn’t. I am now,” she finished with a grin.
Robin laughed. They'd first met at the party for Jennifer Braggins' promotion. Mara had challenged Robin to a game of pool, and she'd done so knowing that the nurse was an Augment. At the time she'd been annoyed with the security officer; while she didn't hide her enhanced status, she also didn't shout it from the rooftops. She'd felt a little guilty afterwards at running the table, especially with a flashy trick shot. It'd reminded her of her Academy days. Mara had been a good sport, though, and Robin had to respect someone who wanted to play despite knowing about her enhancements. The Amazonian security chief had turned into a good friend since that day.
“When I think back to that party at that barn on Earth… Yeah. A lot’s happened since then,” Mara continued. “It feels ages ago, and yesterday, at the same time. Time out in space kinda blurs it all together. But for what it’s worth, I’m glad for all of it, and I’m glad to be here. Especially with all o’ you. Even the rookie over there. I think you’re gonna fit right in.”
That earned another grin. Robin absolutely felt the same way. This ship was home, and these people weren't merely coworkers. They were good friends, and she hoped Hallowette would join them.
The CMO finished up the song to a smattering of polite applause from the lounge. Over in the corner a Vulcan science officer was opening a case and taking out a lute, the twelve-stringed instrument that was favored by her people. Not wanting to drown her out the purple-haired nurse got up and rejoined her friends. That was another 8-Starboard "rule." Everyone who wanted to play got to.
"Yep," Robin added to Mara's sentiment. "Mara's right. No matter what happens you've got a home here if you want it."
