The levity of the evening settled amongst the group of women, and Hallowette allowed herself to fully enjoy it. No longer feeling like an outcast or third wheel as rank faded away to be replaced by the comradery of friends sharing a lovely moment in time together.
From the heartfelt toasts (including even Lucy's comment of longed for love, which Hally appreciated more than Lucy could know), to the hilarity of the Klingon boast (which was absolutely on brand and somehow even appreciatively warm coming from Mara), to the lovely sound of Robin's playing, and the shared recollection with Calleja of a shared moment - it was all just beautiful.
Truthfully, Hally had worried so much upon joining the Academy- More than she ever really allowed herself to comprehend.
For her entire life the young woman had chased someone else's shadow, someone else's approval. Someone's love and acceptance. She was a child from two different cultures, both so alike in many ways, yet light years apart in others - She was so often adrift in the solitude of her own uniqueness.
It had taken years to come to terms with that shadow, and she had feared it would follow her all her days. From Trill to Bajor, then onwards to the expanse of all the stars in the heavens. She deeply feared that she would never truly find what she so fervently longed for - what the human Cymraeg culture referred to as 'Hiraeth' - the familiar sense of something lost, unfound or even that which was never experienced.
And strangely to her...this unexpected night she had found some semblance of it - here among her new crewmates....her new friends...her new family - the Artemis.
Hally looked to Robin; the girl she had admired from afar in the Academy, someone she longed to be acknowledged by, if not be her in some way.
Aeryn; the experienced, steady, and steadfast senior officer who saw her immediately, showing her a kindness she hadn't expected nor deserved. Her warmth and lovely countenance already becoming cherished qualities.
Mara; the gruff boogeywoman who was anything but (well maybe still a little), but someone that Hally realize she GENUINELY liked. She looked forward to getting to know the Chief of Security, as something told her they might just get on well, Hell, maybe they could even become real friends.
Lucy. Lovely, lost Lucy; Even in the very short time she had gotten to know the human woman, the empathetic trill/bajoran hybrid couldn't help but feel some draw towards Devereaux. She perhaps wasn't lost, but she did seem to be much like her in some way - longing for something more, whether it be love, recognition or just growth. Hally knew all too well the desire to quiet the turmoil of a tumultuous soul.
As her new friends welcomed her, she raised a glass alongside them. She tossed the beverage slightly, watching the liquid tumble and sparkle, thankful that the table was enjoying things sans alcohol. She had shared enough about herself - she needed to save some of her many, myriad flaws for self depreciation at a later date.
“Tenvadya shêlu miravalas, ebrhyll emena tra.” she said as she raised the glass, speaking again in Trill. Her boyish features demurring slightly as she translated the words, “To the experiences we share, shining from amongst the many stars—may life bind us always in friendship.”
She drank a sip of the mocktail (it was good!), and she turned back towards Robin, "Ok, you play. I sing. Cmon!" She then reached a hand towards Aeryn, "You're coming too Red." she said with a sly smile, before sweeping her gaze across the group, "Hells, let's all just go." She didn't hesitate as she began moving towards the stage, addressing the vulcan with the lute, "We've got next!" She then turned towards the Security chief, "Mara, you pick the song!"
